{52} Arthur Ketch

Imagine: You and Ketch are in a relationship but because he works with the Men of Letters, he's always busy to the point where he puts them before the reader, he even leaves the reader for a while before realizing that he still loves the reader.

The British Men of Letters. Every time you heard those five words, a shiver was sent up and down your spine. When they came to the United States, you knew that it was going to cause trouble. After all, they were a group of selfish people who only followed orders to protect themselves. At least, most of them were like that. There was only one man who proved you wrong - Arthur Ketch - the man you loved.

You met Arthur Ketch about two weeks after Sam had been tortured by Lady Bevell. In fact, because of that, the first time you met Ketch you gave him several bruises and a nice bloody nose before walking off without giving him half a chance to explain himself.

Though you meant that night to be a 'stay the hell away from me and my friends', apparently Ketch didn't receive that message. Instead, he only grew more persistent in talking to you. He would show up on cases that you were working and refused to leave until you stopped the monster. He would join you at bars or diners and spend at least an hour talking to you. And despite your valiant efforts to call him a stalker, he insisted that he was just being friendly.

Finally, when you were fed up with Ketch following you around everywhere, you confronted him and asked him to leave you alone. He agreed to leave you alone if, in exchange, you went on a date with him. Reluctantly, you agreed.

You went into the date with a very closed mind and the hopes that you would finally get Ketch away from you after it. But, after a long night of riding on the back of his motorcycle, going to incredibly romantic places, and listening to his unbelievably attractive accent as he gave you compliments, you found yourself completely hooked on him. One date turned into so many more which is why you were now completely in love with him, with the hopes that he felt the same way.

There was only one thing in the way of your happiness: the British Men of Letters. Every time the name was mentioned it seemed like you and Ketch would start a fight. He had opened up about the horrible things the British Men of Letters made him do which, of course, only made you hate them more.

So, you did what any rational person would do and tried to convince him to leave the British Men of Letters so that you and he could be together without their constant threats hanging over your heads. But every time you brought it up, Ketch flipped out and went on a rampage of how they brought him in when he had no one and how he had to follow orders. So, you did your best to avoid the subject.

_

It was very early in the morning when you woke up to Ketch's voice talking from the opposite side of the room. Tiredly, you ran a hand over your face and sat up in the bed, looking around the room until you spotted Ketch with his back turned towards you, holding his phone up to his ear as he held a conversation with the person on the other end.

"Yes, I understand," Ketch stated in his groggy morning voice. You had a soft smile on your face as you took in his appearance. He was shirtless, the muscles in his back tensing with every movement he made. His hair was messy in an irresistible way that made you want to get up and run your hands through it, but you stayed in your spot.

Ketch let out a soft sigh before hanging up the phone and you seized the opportunity to let him know that you were awake. "Early morning booty call?" you asked, making Ketch spin around and look at you. "No, love, those are reserved only for you," he replied, walking back towards the bed.

Your smile grew as Ketch climbed back into the bed and pulled you into him, grazing his hand on your cheek before pulling you into a kiss. You immediately responded, running your fingers through his hair and after another moment you both pulled away. "Did I wake you?" Ketch asked, concerned.

"Yeah, but it's okay. I like waking up to you," you replied, running your hand over his smooth and chiseled chest. Ketch smiled before his face fell again and he said, "I have to go in to see Hess." You sighed as you looked down, your expression turning into a frown at the mention of her name.

Doctor Hess was one of the elders of the British Men of Letters who gave Ketch his orders. In your mind, she was an absolute bitch. Ketch immediately used his index finger to tilt your gaze back into his eyes.

"I won't be long, I promise," Ketch told you. "Do you have to go now? It's four o'clock in the morning," you told him. "She asked me to," Ketch replied. "Asked or ordered?" you questioned, raising an eyebrow. Ketch thought about his next words for a moment before responding, "Asked."  You smiled as you pushed Ketch down onto the bed and moved to straddle his hips before saying, "So then, you technically don't have to go right away."

Ketch smiled at you as you placed your lips on his before leaving a trail of kisses down his neck and chest. Ketch let out a low chuckle before flipping the two of you so that was on top. He was quick to attack your neck in kisses, sucking and licking to mark you as his. You pulled him closer when suddenly his phone rang.

He let out a sigh as he looked at the caller ID. He moved off of you before answering, "This is Ketch." You let your head drop to the pillow in a sigh, wondering if you could ever have a moment alone with Ketch without it getting interrupted. "What? Are you sure?" Ketch questioned, causing you to look at him.

"We are on our way," Ketch replied, hanging up the phone again. "What is it?" you asked. "Hess wants you to come in as well," Ketch told you, looking into your eyes. "What? Why? I'm not part of the British Men of Letters," you replied. "I don't know, but we should get going. We do not want to keep her waiting," Ketch told you. You nodded your head, getting dressed before you and Ketch made your way to meet with Hess.

As Ketch stopped his motorcycle, you hopped off, nervously looking at the building in front of you. Ketch immediately interlaced his fingers with yours to calm your nerves which helped a lot. He led you through the building, into a large meeting room. Ketch let go of your hand and stood in a soldier-like stance while you ran your hands through your hair, trying to make yourself look presentable.

Suddenly, the door opened, and you watched as an older woman marched in. "Dr. Hess, lovely to see you," Ketch stated with a smile. "Likewise, Arthur. And you, Y/N, we haven't officially met," she told you.

"Yes, well I've heard a lot about you, mostly from my hunter friends who you tried to kill," you remarked in a snarky tone that caused Ketch to snap his head in your direction as if you had just done an unbelievably stupid thing. Dr. Hess wore a tight-lipped smile as she said, "Let's call that a misunderstanding." "Is that what you call it every time you try to murder someone?" you asked.

Ketch suddenly cleared his throat very loudly before stating, "Dr. Hess, please forgive Y/N, she really isn't a morning person." Hess let out a sharp chuckle before replying, "Yes, well, regardless, I did need to speak you to the both of you."

"What is this about?" Ketch asked. "Your next orders," Dr. Hess replied. "Pardon me for asking, but what does that have to do with Y/N?" he asked. Dr. Hess began walking closer to the center of the room as she explained, "Y/N, you are just like the other mindless hunters of America. You are careless, risky, and not smart enough to rationally take care of a job. You have no place alongside a member of the British Men of Letters. And Mr. Ketch you have been worse off with her."

Ketch gave you an uneasy glance as he questioned, "What exactly are you saying?" "As a member of the British Men of Letters, it is your duty to protect innocent people from what they do not know exists, not fool around with a woman you picked up on the side of the road," Hess stated, making you scoff before asking, "Excuse me?"

Hess continued over you though, stating, "Your orders, Mr. Ketch are to end your relationship with Y/N immediately, or you will be removed from the British Men of Letters. Which is more important to you?"

A thick wave of tense silence washed over the room as you looked at Ketch. He wouldn't break up with you, would he? He loved you...didn't he? You stared at Ketch as your heart skipped beats, waiting for his answer. He looked like he was weighing out all of the benefits and consequences of each option before finally locking his gaze on yours.

His face held a stone-cold expression as he told you, "Goodbye, Y/N." And just like that, those two simple words, shattered your heart. No doubt, Ketch could see the heartbreak in your eyes,  and you would never know how much that look was tearing Ketch apart. But, orders were orders.

You let out a small laugh, feeling the need to do something to distract yourself from bursting into tears. You began walking towards the door, when you stopped, feeling something cold on your chest. You looked down and saw the necklace you were wearing. It was a gift from Ketch from not too long ago. You begged him not to get you jewelry but he made you wear it, telling you that until he could say the words 'I love you', it would be a symbol for it.

Your hand wrapped around the necklace, before you took it off and walked back to Ketch, handing it to him. He looked surprised and incredibly hurt as he took the necklace and looked back into your eyes.

"I guess the necklace didn't mean as much as I thought it did," you told him, before walking away. Ketch opened his mouth to say something. To say anything to keep you from leaving, but the sharp glare from Hess made him go back to his cold facade, trying to hide the pain he was feeling.

-

It had been one month since you had last seen Ketch but the memory still burns like an iron in the back of your mind. You delved into hunting more deeply than ever before. You barely slept or ate and spent every other moment killing another creature, trying to distract yourself from Ketch.

Letting out a sigh, you opened the door to the motel room, only to stop dead in your tracks as you saw none other than the British man standing in the center of the room. "What the hell are you doing here?" you asked, not moving an inch.

"I came to talk," he told you, making a slight surrendering motion with his hands. Your gaze narrowed as you replied, "No." "You always were quite a stubborn one. But, I'm rather stubborn too, and I'm not leaving until we talk," Ketch replied. You let out a sigh and stated, "Fine, you stay. I'll go."

You then spun around and began walking back to your car when Ketch quickly ran up to catch you before you could get in. Trapped between him and the door of your car, you were forced to look up at him. "I've missed you," he said, making your heart ache for him. You let out a sigh as you closed your eyes, trying to regain your composure.

"Don't Ketch, you don't just get to come back and pretend like everything is okay," you said, looking into his eyes. You noticed the deep bags under them and the redness. He looked exhausted, exactly like you. "I know, love, I am so sorry," he replied.

"Sorry? Sorry doesn't make up for it, Ketch. You left me! You gave me that necklace and you made all these promises about how we would be together in the future. And then you acted as if I meant nothing to you. You abandoned me to follow an order! I can't believe I fell in love with you," you rambled on. Ketch's head hung in guilt until your last sentence. He snapped his head up to look into your eyes as he asked, "You fell in love with me?"

You let out a sigh, realizing that was the first time either of you said those words out loud, before replying, "Yes, but it doesn't matter because you never really fell in love me." As a tear escaped from your eye, you tried to push past Ketch but he pinned you further into the car, pressing his body against yours.

"You don't know that," Ketch said. "Yes, I do. Because if you loved me like I love you, then you never could have left me like you did," you stated. "Hess had a hitman in the room. She always gets what she wants. If I hadn't followed orders, you would have been killed," Ketch tried to explain.

"Well, congratulations Ketch, now you don't have to worry about me anymore," you snapped back. "Don't you get it Y/N? I care about you too much to let my own happiness stand in the way of keeping you alive. I'd rather you hate me then have your blood on my hands. But after this past month without you, I can't live without you any longer," Ketch told you, crashing his lips to yours.

You let out a gasp as every nerve in your body felt like it was on fire with need for Ketch. When he pulled away you asked, "Why are you here, Ketch?" "Because I love you and I want to be with you," he stated. You let out a sigh and shook your head slightly before saying, "Ketch, this doesn't change anything. The Men of Letters is still...," you began but Ketch cut you off.

"I left the British Men of Letters he replied. "You did?" you asked, shock filling your expression. Ketch nodded his head and you opened your mouth to continue, "And Hess?" "She is dead," Ketch replied, and you let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding.

"Don't you see, Y/N? I am finally free, we are finally free," he told you cupping your cheek in his hand. You couldn't help but let the smile form on your face as you leaned up and pressed your lips to his. "This doesn't mean I forgive you for leaving," you told him, pulling away for a moment. "I still haven't forgiven myself. But, I did save this," Ketch replied, pulling out the necklace that you gave back to him.

Your heart fluttered as Ketch secured it around your neck. "I love you," you said with a smile. "I love you," Ketch replied, interlacing his hand with yours as he led you back into your motel room, both of you more than happy that you found your way back to each other.
