Experiment [SPN] ~ Sammy's Pick

Recommended by: Yours truly

Author: Tadashi-Targaryen

Synopsis:

"Who am I? What am I?"

"You are an experiment, Clara. I'm terribly sorry."

Clara discovers that those she believed to be her family were lying to her for her entire life. Clara runs away, knowing nothing about who she is and how she really came to be connected to angels, in hopes of finding answers and freedom. When she is taken in by Dean and Sam Winchester, she starts to learn the truth.

But Clara is not only being hunted down by the angels. Now that she's on Earth, she's being hunted down by demons, too.

Takes place around season 10, post-demon!Dean, but not following any plot that the writers may have planned.

Rating: 3/5

Review:

So, warning dead ahead: This book is 10 parts long. Yup, just ten chapters. So if short books are your thing, then you'll already like this.

We are brought into Clara's world, played by Caity Lotz (brownie points to the author for casting choice).

We gather that Clara is in Heaven. But for any story to move forward, she leaves Heaven with the help of Cas. Why is she running? Well, I can't say, cause, spoilers.

There is a twist that I kind of liked that it got me off guard.

Remember when I said about the story being short? Well, it really does feel short. When I was finished, I felt kind of...I don't know...rushed sort of. Like I felt there could be more story to have included to kind of get to know Clara more.

Before the end of the book, I got that

a) Clara was not human

and b) She wasn't stupid/an idiot as she liked to keep reminding everybody (the repetitiveness of her saying that constantly slightly aggravated me, but Caity Lotz...she made it okay)

I didn't really get an essence of who she was. I wanted to care for her, as one would care for fictional characters. She felt like a stranger, a little less of one (and I mean little) after the book was finished.

The plot could have been improved (I think so at least) with a little more of meat to the story's bones. But again, this is a review.

So, recap:

*More Clara character development

*More meat in the plot/slightly longer book

To the author who may/may not read this, my suggestions you do not have to take to heart. If you are at the end of the day happy with what you've written and are proud of it, then don't change a damn thing unless you yourself think it personally better to tweak the story.
