Chapter Six - The Source
After joining forces, Superman and Batman along with the Storm Hawks began making their way to the Cyclonian outpost where the weapon had been destroyed. The Cyclonian Fleet had formed a blockage around the area.
Piper: That's not good. The Cyclonians got this place sealed off.
Superman: I could try drawing them away.
Batman: That'll attract too much attention and put the whole fleet on high alert.
Aerrow: Then we'll just have to get creative. Stork, take us to the Wastelands.
Stork: We're doomed....
With that, Stork pilots the Condor down to the Wastelands to sneak past the blockade by flying underneath them. Superman was impressed by this move.
Superman: An interesting move, Aerrow.
Aerrow: Sometimes you gotta think outside the box.
With that, the Condor navigated through the Wastelands. Once they were successfully past the blockage, the Condor rose from the Wastelands and into the Cyclonian Territory. They then began looking for the outpost. When they found the outpost, the Condor landed in the ruins of the outpost. They then make their way to the remains of the weapon. Batman and Piper immediately began looking over the weapon.
Piper: Hhm...it looks like Cyclonis was trying to replicate the Storm Engine. But since she didn't have the Aurora Stone, she had to find a alternative source of power.
As Piper says this, Batman goes into Detective Mode on his cowl and analyzes the device. Piper becomes curious as to what Batman was doing. It wasn't long before Batman found something.
Batman: The Cowl is picking up something.
Piper: How? I'm not seeing anything.
Batman says nothing as he checks the weapon's power source. When he opens it, he finds multiple drained Crystals.
Piper: Those look like Engine Crystals, but there's no way they could've produced the kind of power Cyclonis was looking for, let alone bring you two all the way to Atmos!
Junko: Couldn't she get like....a hundred of them?
Piper: Even a thousand Engine Crystals wouldn't be enough to power this weapon. And besides, those Crystals are....drained, but I'm not seeing any signs of Nil Crystals.
Upon further inspection, Batman finds a hidden compartment at the center of the weapon. When he opens it, he finds a Mother Box imbued within the machine. He then yanks out the Mother Box and shows it to the rest of the group.
Piper: What the heck is that?
Superman: A Mother Box. A sentient, autonomous computer used by the New Gods.
Batman: Master Cyclonis was trying to harness this power as a weapon, not knowing it's true capabilities. Aerrow, tell me exactly what happened when the weapon was destroyed.
Aerrow: Cyclonis was trying to power the weapon when we came in. While I was fighting Cyclonis, her staff hit the core and caused a big explosion.
Upon hearing this, Batman began piecing everything together. Between the presence of the Mother Box and the fact that he and Superman had been transported to Atmos, it didn't take long for Batman to piece everything together.
Batman: When Cyclonis punctured the core of the weapon, it seems to have activated a Boom Tube which brought Superman and I here.
Junko: Um....what's a Boom Tube?
Superman: An extra-dimensional point-to-point travel portal opened by a Mother Box. Now that we know what brought us here, we can find a way back.
Batman: There's only one problem. The Mother Box is drained of power. Being made into a power source for this machine must've drained it's power. But there's just one question: how did a Mother Box ended up on Atmos?
At this point, the question of how the Mother Box came to Atmos was a bigger mystery.
Finn: I mean does it really matter who's....Mother Box thing that was?
Superman: As a matter of fact, it does. We know of the people who wield those Mother Boxes, including those you don't want to meet. And if those people are on Atmos, then it's bad.
Superman and Batman began to wonder if someone from Apokolips or even Darkseid himself was somehow involved in this. Operating within Atmos would act as a loophole around their agreement with the New Gods of New Genesis on the matter of Earth. But then there was the matter of Master Cyclonis herself. She was the unknown factor within all of this.
Batman: Aerrow, would Master Cyclonis consider forming alliances with anyone?
Aerrow: I wouldn't put it above her, but I'd doubt it. At the end of the day, Cyclonis is in it for Cyclonis.
At this point, Batman couldn't rule anything out. He couldn't rule out whether this Mother Box came from someone of New Genesis or a servant of Darkseid. But the fact that a Mother Box was on Atmos and Master Cyclonis was attempting to weaponize it for her own purposes was troubling enough.
Piper: So we have a vague idea of what brought you two here. Now how do we get you back?
???: Perhaps I can be of some assistance.
As the voice called out, Superman and Batman along with the Storm Hawks turned to face a lone individual in red wearing a strange helmet. At first the Storm Hawks thought he was a Cyclonian. Superman and Batman stepped in, recognizing the man.
Superman: Orion.
With that, Superman and Batman as well as the Storm Hawks had found an unexpected ally within the New God Orion. But what no one realized was that their arrival would not go unnoticed as they would encounter more Cyclonian Entanglement.
