seventeen - "explosive girl who has no control and a son named tony jr?"
"They both are such..." Mira ended with a frustrated groan and flopped onto the bed. Cora quietly hid her laugh. She continued to make the bed while Mira paced.
Mira had been doing a lot of pacing recently. Cora also noticed how she and Loki had gotten into more fights recently. The main debates seemed to be centered mostly around the gladiator god named Thor. From their various conversations, Cora knew that he was her old teammate and Loki's brother.
"Mira, sorry to interrupt, but would you be up for going into the city today?" the redhead asked. Mira looked up. She wearing a more causal outfit from the Lady: her worn jeans and a black blouse with frilly sleeves to add a Sakaarian look, all matched with her golden whip and dark flats.
"Sure. With Bruna?" she said. Cora nodded and went to fold clothes.
"I think she's down the hallway actually," she said, hearing footsteps. Mira sat up as the Scrapper walked in.
"Hey Cora," said Bruna. "Hey Miss Goddess." She still said Mira's title with disdain.
"Hey Bruna!" Cora smiled. Mira waved slightly. Bruna crossed her arms. "Want to go out to the city today?" Bruna raised an eyebrow and shrugged.
"Sure," she said. Suddenly, there was a buzz on her belt. Bruna took out a small device that looked like a mini cell phone. Mira wondered what it was. "Well, Cora, I need to go and check on the grand champion. I'll catch up with you two." Mira widened her eyes as Bruna walked off.
"Wait! Wait!" Mira got off the bed and ran after her. Cora decided not to run after her for sake of not being allowed into the gladiators' chambers. "Bruna! Wait up!" Mira promptly ran into the Scrapper.
"Ouch," Bruna said without emotion. Mira rubbed her elbow.
"Sorry," she said. "But c-could I uh tag along with you?"
"No." Bruna continued to walk, and Mira had to run after her again.
"Why not? I won't like do anything bad!" said Mira, panting.
"You're not allowed," Bruna said. "Stay with your 'lover.'"
"J-just let me go with you!" said Mira. "I won't even saying anything! I just want to see my friends." Bruna sighed and turned to her.
"Look, your holiness," she mocked. "You're not allowed to come."
"Please?" Mira asked. Bruna sighed again.
"You won't say a word," she said. Mira clapped and was about to say "thank you" when Bruna put up a hand. "Not a word."
"Oh right so-oh wait-sorry, sorry," Mira clamped her mouth shut. Bruna rolled her eyes and continued to walk.
Soon, after many hallways and past lots of rooms, the pair reached a red area. Mira looked around in awe. She continued to be amazed at everything in Sakaar, even though she had been on the planet for awhile. They turned and saw a big room. Mira's heart quickened as she caught glimpses of the Hulk.
"Angry girl!" he shouted gleefully. Mira was about to grin, but then Bruna laughed. She ran to give him a hug and tackled him.
"What's going on?" she asked, still smiling. "What do you..." She stopped when she saw Thor standing behind Hulk. Thor widened his eyes a little at the sight of Mira.
"Mira! You're here too!" he grinned. She was about to say something when Bruna shot her a glare. Mira just nodded at him helplessly.
"You're so thick-headed that you can't tell when someone's hiding all the way across the universe and wants to be left alone?" said Bruna.
"I can't disagree with that," Mira mumbled, smiling. Bruna gave her a look.
"We need to talk," said Thor.
"No, you want to talk to me," she said icily. She turned to walk out of the room.
"I need her to stay," Thor said to Hulk. Hulk nodded in understanding, ripped off part of his bed (it was a massive skull), and then threw the giant bone at the doorway. Thor gave him a look that said, "Really? That was the best thing you could come up with?" Bruna stopped, turned, and looked at the two.
"Stay!" Hulk shouted. "Please?"
"Please," Thor repeated. She sighed and walked back. Hulk continued to play with a big ball. Everytime it hit the wall, the room shook slightly. Mira blew a piece of hair out of her face. Bruna strolled over a shelf full of colourful glass bottles. Mira noticed how a shelf like that was also in her room.
"All right, here's the deal," the brunette said to Thor. He went closer to her. She picked up a hefty bottle and popped the cork. "I'll listen to you until this bottle is empty." She tipped back the bottle and started chugging.
"Asgard is in danger," said Thor quickly, "and people are dying. We need to get back there. I need your help..." He widened his eyes as Bruna finished off the bottle. "Wow." Mira wondered if Bruna ever won any drinking competitions in college. Then she remembered that the other woman wasn't from Earth. She facepalmed herself.
"Wait," Mira said, suddenly thinking about Thor's words. "Why did you mention Asgard-"
"Finished," Bruna said. She dropped the glass, letting it shatter on the ground. "Bye." She started to walk away again when Thor interrupted her.
"Odin is dead," he said. Bruna stopped. Mira had flashbacks from when Odin turned into golden dust. "Hela, the goddess of death, has invaded Asgard."
"If Hela's back then Asgard is already lost," Bruna spat. Mira was shocked.
"Hold up..." The gears in her brain shifted. "Wait, you're from Asgard?!"
"No," Bruna narrowed her eyes.
"Yes, she is," said Thor. Mira turned her head to look at each of them. Bruna glared at the blonde.
"Uh..." Mira said.
"I'm going to stop her," Thor said with confidence. He always had had that childlike confidence.
"Alone?" Bruna raised an eyebrow.
"Nope!" Thor grinned. "I'm putting together a team. It's me, you, and the big guy."
"Hey!" Mira said, offended.
"Oh and Mira, sorry," he apologized.
"No team," Hulk said from behind them. "Only Hulk." Thor turned to Bruna.
"It's me, you, and Mira," he said.
"I think it's just you and the fake goddess," she replied. Mira rolled her eyes. Bruna began to leave once more.
"Wait!" Thor said. "Just listen. The Valkyrie are legend, elite warriors of Asgard. You are sworn to defend the throne."
"You're a what?!" Mira turned to Bruna. The brunette was clearly annoyed.
"I'm not getting dragged into another one of Odin's family squabbles," Bruna said.
"What is happening...Bruna is from Asgard, Banner's been Hulk for two years, and Thor is going to save the world...just another normal day," mumbled Mira.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Thor said to Bruna. She shook her head.
"Your sister," she said. "Her power comes from Asgard, same as yours." She paused. "When it grew beyond Odin's control, she massacred everyone in the palace and tried to seize the throne. When she tried to escape her banishment, he sent the Valkyrie in to fight her back. I only survived because..." The woman looked pained, and Mira felt the urge to give her a hug. She decided not to for sake of safety. Bruna turned back to Thor. "Look, I already faced her once back when I believed in the throne, and it cost me everything. THAT'S what's wrong with Asgard. The throne, the secrets, the whole golden sham."
"I agree," Thor said, putting a hand on the Valkyrie's shoulder. Bruna snatched his hand off, and put a knife to his throat. Mira and Hulk exchanged glances.
"Don't get familiar," she said dangerously.
"I agree. That's why I turned down the throne," said Thor. "But this isn't about the crown. This is about the people. They're dying and they're you're people, too." Bruna shoved him away.
"Forget it," she growled. "I have."
"Okay," Thor said, defeated.
"Okay," Bruna said, slightly suspicious at why he was agreeing with her.
"Good, great," said Thor, nodding. Mira was now confused. But that wasn't anything new.
"Great," Bruna said.
"Thank you," he said. She turned sharply.
"For what?"
"For this." Thor grinned and raised his hand to show a small device. Mira recognized it as the device the Scrappers used to keep their "catches" from running off. Bruna narrowed her eyes again. "Didn't see that, did you?" He pressed a button, and a small disk from his neck fell off. He sighed with content and smirked. Bruna was fuming.
"He's uh not usually this smart, if that makes you feel better," Mira said to her. Thor didn't seem to hear her.
"There, that's better," he said. He motioned to Bruna. "You know, go ahead. Stay here and get drunk and enslave people for that lunatic. Keep drinking. Keep hiding. But me..." He motioned to Hulk to give him the giant ball. "I choose to run toward my problems, and not away from them." He lifted the ball up and chucked it at the window. "Because that's what..." Thor was promptly cut off by the ball bouncing back and hitting him in the face. Mira clamped her mouth down to stifle her laughter. Bruna was unimpressed.
"Oh my god," Mira said, her hands over her mouth. "Thor, that was...oh my god." Thor stood back up, trying to regain his dignity.
"Because," he restarted, "that's what heroes do." He then proceeded to proceeded to run towards the glass and smash it, sliding down the building wall.
"Holy shit! Thor! Wait!" Mira shouted, running towards the now open window. Hulk ran next to her, and Bruna laughed.
"He's got balls," she commented.
"Friend! Stay!" Hulk yelled, mad.
"I need to go with him," Mira said. Bruna looked at her.
"How about...no," she said, pulling her from the window. Mira tugged her arm away and went back to the wall.
"Bruna! He's my friend, ok? I need to do this," she said. "Tell Cora and Loki where I am. Bye! We'll find you later!" Before the Valkyrie could do anything, Mira jumped out the window and screamed some obcenties as she slid down the building's wall. She realised that she had to figure out a way to land. Up head, Mira saw Thor launching himself down onto the street and landing gracefully.
"No way in hell I'm doing that," she muttered to herself. As quickly as she could, Mira unwrapped her whip. It gleamed in the sun. She flicked her wrist, and the whip latched onto a pole across the street. Mira took a deep breath and jumped off of the wall. She swung across, trying not to close her eyes, and landed on the other side with her legs outstretched as if she was rock climbing. Slowly, she lowered herself down and her whip ravelled itself back onto her wrist. "Thank god I wore jeans," she said. Mira realised that Sakaarian people were staring at her in awe.
"Eres una dea?" someone asked. She blanked.
"Uh sorry, I speak English," she said. "Wait, that sounded a lot like Spanish or Italian." They looked at her in confusion. Mira tried again. "Uh ok well have any of you seen a blonde dude? In armour?" They still looked confused. "Gladiator?" One person pointed in a direction. "Thanks!" Mira gave a quick smile, grabbed a translucent scarf to cover her face, and ran off.
After a few blocks of running, the Asian saw Thor sprinting towards a junk area filled with broken ships and piles of trash. Sakaar had lots of those. Mira panted and kept running. He jogged into a familiar black ship. Mira widened her eyes.
"Oh my god," she said, slowing down to gaze at the Quinjet. She hadn't seen it in years. Memories of Clint and Natasha taking her around New York City in the plane flashed through her mind. She shook her head and followed Thor inside.
"All right," Thor was saying as she went in. "Come on." He was also randomly pressing buttons and flipping switches. Mira took off the scarf, wrapped it around her wrist, and raised an eyebrow.
"Thor, do you know what you're doing?" she asked. He turned, surprised to see her.
"What are you doing here, Mira?" he said.
"Let me try and be helpful, ok?" She rolled her eyes and went next to him, examining the controls. After a minute, she hit a promising-looking button and the flight deck lit up with power. "You're welcome."
"Thank you," he said. They saw a verification pad light up as well. Thor put his hand on it, and the device scanned it, turning green. Thor grinned.
"Voice verification required," an automated voice said. He grinned more.
"Thor!"
"Access denied," said the computer. Mira laughed and then coughed when he gave her a look.
"Thor, son of Odin," he tried again.
"Access denied," repeated the computer.
"God of Thunder," he said.
"Access denied."
"Strongest Avenger!"
"Access denied." Mira was laughing hard now.
"Oh my god..." she laughed. "This is hilarious!"
"You're an Avenger! You try!" Thor grumbled angrily. Mira wiped her tears and put her hand on the pad; it glowed green.
"Dynamite," she said.
"Access denied," the computer said, starting to sound bored. Thor chuckled.
"Mira Lam?" she tried.
"Access denied."
"Explosive girl who has no control and a son named Tony Jr?"
"Access denied."
"Oh wait," Mira said, taking her hand off. "I remember something. Tony never let me have a password because I was the worst flier on the team. Oops." Thor sighed and put his hand on one more time.
"Damn you, Stark," he murmured. Mira laughed. "Point Break."
"Welcome, Point Break," the computer greeted. Mira laughed more, and Thor rolled his eyes.
"Nice Swayze reference, Stark," complimented Mira. Thor grumbled again but got back to try and fly the jet. However, before he could, there was a sudden crash at the end of the jet. The two jumped and looked behind them to see a giant Hulk smashing through the metal of the plane.
"Friends stay!" Hulk shouted, angrily. Thor widened his eyes at the sight of the plane being destroyed.
"No no no!" he said frantically.
"Stay!" said Hulk, still walking normally. He continued to break everything. Mira ducked as sparks and metal fell from the hull.
"Stop! Stop breaking everything!" yelled Thor. Hulk didn't stop.
"Don't go!" Hulk said, still mad. Thor began to press more buttons in a panic. There were various beeps, but then a small switch turned on a screen. It was a message.
"Nice work, big guy," Natasha said from the small computer. Mira got a wave of nostalgia from just the sound of her voice.
"I'm going to die from these flashback attacks," she said to herself. Hulk was watching, wide eyed at the redhead. Thor stepped aside so he could see the full image.
"We don't know where Ultron's headed," said Natasha, "but you're going very high, very fast. Hulk got closer to the screen. "So, I need you to turn this bird around, okay? We can't track you in stealth mode, so I need you to help me out. Okay? I need you to..." Hulk started the convulse as the connection flickered out.
"No!" he shouted, clutching his head. "No Banner!" Hulk began to stumble backwards. He fell to the ground and began to shrink. Hulk roared, trying to make the transformation stop, but he couldn't. As he fought against himself, he began to smash the Quinjet even more. Mira dodged the loose wire and pieces of metal. Then...calm. Inside the giant towel and beads lay a small figure. Mira ran over to him, and Thor followed.
"Banner. Hey, hey, hey. You all right, Banner? Sun's going down," Thor said, patting his arm awkwardly. "Sun's going down. That's it, breathe. I won't hurt you. Sun's going down." Bruce Banner slowly sat up as Thor repeated himself. Mira slapped his hand away.
"That's not going to do anything!" she rolled her eyes. Bruce blinked at them.
"Thor? Mira? Is that you?"
"Nah, it's Leia and Han."
"Wait really?!"
"Oh my god, you're such a nerd..."
