prologue
prologue - "new york, new york, it's a hell of a town!"
"Hey firegirl! Are you going to help or not?" Iron Man yelled into her com. Mira "Dynamite" Lam winced at the loud noise. An explosion shattered a window nearby. She ducked for cover and ran to the other side of the skyscraper. Two aliens landed near her and growled like dogs. She waved her hand, and their armour turned into flames. They fell off the skyscraper in pain.
"To hell with you, Stark," she murmured.
"I can hear you!" he yelled again. "Does anyone need help?"
"Whatever," she muttered and then cleared her throat.
"Well, Thor's fighting a squadron down on sixth," Hawkeye shouted.
"And he didn't invite me?" Tony sounded hurt.
"You guys are such children," Mira rolled her eyes. She looked at the battle happening around her from her perch on the roof of a office building whilst singing a small tune.
"New York, New York, it's a hell of a town..."
"That was a lovely parody, Ms. Lam."
"Don't judge me, Cap. You, sir, are in star-spangled tights." There was a snicker from the team. Mira grinned.
There were hideous purple-and-gold aliens flying in the sky, shooting some alien guns on their alien planes. Basically a lot of aliens. She scanned the clouds for their main commander - Loki Laufeyson. She saw a large-ish golden ship fly by. Bingo.
"I'm goin' in after the green dude! Not Banner, but by the way, where is Banner..."
"Hurry!" Natasha shouted, interrupting. Watched Loki fly around the building, Mira unleashed a whip from her wrist. It was a beautiful thing - the sparks and flames clashed very well with its glowing appearance.
"Alright, Mira, here we go," she whispered to herself, before lashing out the whip in front of her. It was perfect timing. The whip stretched out and wrapped onto the back of the Loki's ship. "Gotcha." Mira felt herself being tugged and before she knew it, she was flying around the skyscraper.
"What the hell are you doing, Dynamite?!" said Clint from the earpiece. She saw him on the roof of another building, shooting alien soldiers. She waved as best as she could.
"It's called being a superhero, Hawkeye. You should try it sometime," she said back. She heard him groan.
Turning back around, Mira climbed up the whip (with some difficulty) and promptly kicked off the three alien guards. Loki saw her and growled. He was wearing a magnificent costume, complete with a green cape and a golden helmet with sharp horns. She grinned back.
"Nice costume, bud." She casually walked over to him. "You really need better security!" she said loudly over the sound of wind rushing.
"What?!" he said back. Mira grabbed a small black ball from her side-pack, and it exploded, making a mini fireball. She held it in her hand with ease. Hey, I'm getting better at this.
"Better! Security!" Before the god could reply, she threw the fireball with all her strength. He deftly dodged it and narrowed his eyes. She threw another one and another and another. He dodged all of them and started walking over, twin knifes appearing in his hands. Mira reached for another and found nothing. "Damn..."
"Mortal, prepare to die," he announced.
"Don't think so." She flicked her wrist sharply, and her whip came unraveled from the ship. Grabbing the end of it, she lashed it out at Loki, who narrowly missed the flames.
"Who are you?!" he hissed.
"A superhero! Duh!" She lashed out a couple more times, but he deflected the rope with his daggers. She whipped it back and panted. "How are you so evasive?! Like it's not even funny anymor-" He cut her off by lunging towards her with his knifes. "Woah!" She rolled under him and tried to kick him off with her combat boots. At the same time, Mira lashed out her whip again, but Loki did a backflip and ducked. The whip returned to her.
"Stop talking so much!" he shouted at her. She rolled her eyes.
"You sound just like Tony," she replied.
"Get off my ship!" he snarled. Loki threw one of his knives at Mira, and she shouted an obscenity as she rolled off the platform. She fell a few feet in midair before her whip wrapped around something protruding from the ship and caught hre fall. Probably a chair or pole of some sorts.
"Take that, god of mischief and bad architecture," she muttered. Loki leaned over the side and frowned when he saw her still hanging on. She smiled and waved. Alright, Mira, time to show this guy what you got. Concentrating as best as she could, Mira mentally felt around for the heat signature of the god's cape. Suddenly, the hem of the green turned into flames. Loki yelped and tried jumping on the fire. Mira laughed and then tried to find a way to escape. Not dropping down. Yet.
The god of mischief finally doused the fire on his suit and peered over the edge again, cautious of the Asian girl.
"What are you doing?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. She looked up and smiled.
"Who really knows these days?" Mira grabbed onto her whip before he could kick her hands, felt the rope unravel, and screamed a little as she felt herself drop. The wind rushed past her ears, making them pop. She saw the roof of the Stark Tower coming closer and closer. Putting her hands in the air, the whip wrap around her arm and then...woosh.
Mira looked above her and saw the Iron Man suit holding her by her hands. She grinned.
"Hey!"
"Dynamite, you really need to be more careful," Tony said from inside the suit. She shrugged as best as she could.
"But what's the fun in that?" The suit shook it's head, but Mira could tell he was smiling.
"I'm going to drop you off by the Stark Tower," he said. "Got it?"
"Loud and clear, Iron Boss," she said cheerfully. The suit flew through the air, dodging alien ships (which promptly exploded, thanks to Mira) and dropped her onto the roof of the Tower. She curled into a ball as she hit the ground, then stood up and waved as Tony blasted away.
Mira dusted off her all-black suit and whistled a little.
"Being an Avenger is fun," she said.
"It truly is," Thor said, but not from the com. She looked ahead and saw the blonde. She grinned some more.
"Nice of you to join me, god of thunder." He grinned back.
"I see you have been fighting my brother." Thor motioned to Loki's ship which was still in the air. She nodded.
"He's lovely."
"Quite."
"Think we'll win this little skirmish?" Mira asked. Thor grabbed a bolt of lightning from the sky using his hammer and blasted it out at some alien ships, disintegrating them completely. "Wow. Show-off." Some aliens dropped down and ran at them. Mira flicked out her whip and they were thrown off the tower. She smiled innocently.
"I think so."
