"I'm exhausted from work. Let's just go to the Dingo and Jay's for supper instead." My mom spoke while rubbing her forehead, clearly stressed out.
My dad put his arm around her shoulder. "You alright, Lia?" Worry lines creased his forehead. She nodded her head while flashing us a fake smile. "I'm perfectly fine, Jace. Just a little stressed out, that's all."
He gave her a sympathetic smile and we all hopped in my dad's Cadillac. On the drive to the Dingo and Jay's, I couldn't help but keep staring at my mom from the backseat. She was on the passenger side, leaning her head against the side of the window, clearly worried about something. It was much more than stress I can tell you that.
We pulled up at the Dingo and Jay's and once my dad took the key out of the ignition, he turned his head towards me. "Ki, go ahead and go in there and order for us even though I'm pretty sure Dale already knows what we want. I need to talk to your mom."
I hesitated, but eventually got out of the car and slowly walked towards the Dingo and Jay's. When I entered, Dale's face lit up when he saw me. "Just you by yourself?"
I shook my head. "Nah, my mom and dad are talking in the car. You know what we want, right?"
He nodded his head. "Yes ma'am."
He went behind the counter and into the kitchen to prepare our food. I sat at our usual table and casually waited for my parents to come out of the car. After a few minutes passed, I tapped my fingers on the table impatiently.
I raised my head up to get a clear view of our car and furrowed my eyebrows. Mom was crying and my dad looked pissed. Dale snuck up behind me and put his hand on my shoulder. "She finally told him."
"Told him what?" I questioned, but it came out like a demand.
"Kieran, just promise me something." Dale looked at me intently and I nodded for him to go on.
"If you love somebody, don't let them slip away." He softly spoke and sat our food down on the table while walking away.
I sat there confused and sprinted out the door towards my mom and dad. They both got out of the car and looked at me, both of them giving me smiles like nothing happened between them. "Don't play stupid with me. What just happened?" I raised my voice, glaring at the both of them.
I would never usually talk to my parents like that, but something was going on and the one rule in my family was to never keep secrets from each other.
Looks like we all broke that rule.
They both had hesitant looks on their faces and Mom cleared her throat. "Baby, me and your dad are just in an argument. That's all."
"That's all?" I scoffed. "Let's just go eat. Our food's getting cold."

I WOKE OUT of my slumber by rocks slamming against my window. I don't even have a two story house, why would anyone throw rocks at my window when they could just knock on it?
I peered out of my window and my stomach flipped. Bob.
The smart option was to not open my window, but if I did that, he'd keep throwing the rocks and that would cause Gramps to wake up which is never a good thing. So, I did the dumb choice and prayed that one of the guys would save me because I'm in no shape to fight with a broken arm.
I carefully hopped out of my window and sighed once Bob started walking towards me. "Ouch, what happened to your arm, Smith?"
I rolled my eyes. "You're always trying to get in everyone's business, but since you desperately want to know, it's because I broke it punching your jaws out."
He got up close to my face and snarled. "You mess with my girlfriend, you mess with me."
I laughed. "She doesn't even like you. She has a crush on Ponyboy."
Bob furrowed his eyebrows. "A greaser? She better not." He started raising his voice and I put my hand over his mouth so he would shut up.
"If you wake my Gramps up, you will blow your cover. So, go ahead and do whatever you want to do to me since you've finally got me here by myself."
I removed my hand and Bob gave me a light smile. "You remind me a lot of Cherry."
I scrunched my face up in disgust. "Cherry? No thank you. I don't think I'm a trash bag."
Bob laughed and then got in his Mustang. I raised my hands out. "So, you just came over here to talk to me?"
He shrugged his shoulders. "Yeah. Talk."
[me]
He drove away and I decided to walk to the Curtis's. I don't know if they'd be awake, but it didn't matter. Darry always left the door unlocked just in case any of us needed to come in. I quietly entered and surprised Darry, who was sitting in the chair watching television.
"What in the world are you doing here at midnight? Your grandpa would skin you if he knew you were here. Plus, you shouldn't be walking out by yourself. You know Bob will take any chance he can get." He spoke in a disapproving manner that made me chuckle.
"That's actually why I came over here. Can you get me some cake?" I asked and he nodded, while going in the kitchen to retrieve the cake.
I sat at the table while stuffing my mouth full of cake and told Darry the whole conversation I just had with Bob, plus what happened with Cherry. I didn't mention anything about her and Pony liking each other because as much as I was pissed at him, I still didn't want him getting in trouble.
Darry shook his head. "Don't listen to that bratty red head. She's just trying to get under your skin, and Pony cares a lot about you, Kieran. Trust me."
I scoffed. "Yeah, sure."
"What?" Darry questioned and I shook my head. "Just something that happened. I don't want to talk about it."
Oh, but I do.
"You know you can talk to me about it whenever you feel like it. Believe it or not, I can give pretty good advice. I've been through a lot these past twenty-two years." He gave me a light smile and I returned. I loved talking to Darry. It's like talking to my dad all over again.
I stood up and paused when I saw a very familiar photograph on the wall. Darry answered before I could even ask about it. "Ponyboy said someone gave that to him. He wanted me to hang it on the wall for some reason."
I glanced at the picture for about ten minutes and couldn't remember where it was from.
C'mon, Kieran, you've seen this SOMEWHERE.
And that's when I realized it.
