Chapter One
Pilot
'I didn't do anything this time!'
{Jayden's Perspective}
"Jayden Martha Kent! Get down from there now" my mom shouted from the backyard. Jonathan stopped practicing his football playbook to look up at me. Jordan, who was reading a book, also stopped to see me on the roof of the house dancing along with my music which was blasting through my speaker. "It's just some music Mom!" I shouted back over the music. Her face fell into pure anger, "Jayden, get down now!" She shouted back at me. "Oh my gods! Fine" I yelled back before climbing to my bedroom window with my phone and speaker in hand. On my way in I could hear my mother muttering incoherent phrases as Jonathan and Jordan walked behind her knowing it would be as Jonathan puts it, 'Better than actual television'.
I jumped on my bed as my mother came in and furious was not the right word to describe her face. "Jayden, what were you thinking!? Dancing on the roof like that, you could have gotten yourself hurt!" She shouted at me, her hands dancing around her head in frustration. 'Mom, I wasn't gonna get hurt, I wasn't drunk so I don't see what the problem was" I told her in a calm tone, causing my brothers to snicker behind her. "I don't care if you were invincible Jayden, you can't be acting like you're immortal. One day you're going to get hurt" My mom told me, calming down slightly, his hands now resting on her hips. "Look I'm sorry okay, I didn't mean to scare you" I told my mom, feeling a bit guilty. She sighed, her hands dropping to her sides. "Just don't do it again, I don't even want to think what would happen if you got hurt" She said before walking past the boys,
"You got lucky Jay just as always," Jordan said, flopping on my bed next to me. I pushed him to the side, scoffing at the comment. "Sure says mom's favourite" I shot back, Jonathan also decided to flop on my bed making me squished in between them. "Great I'm squished between two smelly and idiotic brothers" I groaned, nudging them both with my elbows, "Ouch, and besides I know I'm mom's favourite" Jordan confirmed, propping his head up on his and to get more comfortable. "And Jonathan's dad's favourite so I'm stuck being the fifth wheel. And it sucks by the way" I groaned, lying on my back next to my brothers. "Well you can be our favourite Jay Jay" Jonathan said, looking in my eyes. I shoved his face away, making a noise of disgust. "You know I think I prefer being the fifth wheel" I said, which was a huge mistake.
" Oh, is that how it is," Jordan said, his tone making me rethink my choice of words. The next thing I know, both boys are hugging me and tickling me at the same time. "Oh gods no! Stop!" I yelled trying to get out of their grasp. I kept squirming trying not to laugh along, yet I ultimately failed as Jonathan fell on the floor of my room with a large thud. I shoved Jordan over me to land on Jonathan before sitting on them. "Okay! Okay, we surrender oh mighty sister of ours" Jordan pleaded out of breath, trying to do a bowing motion along with Jonathan. I laughed getting up from my throne of brothers before helping them both.
"Boys! Jayden! Dinner!" Mom called, causing Jonathan to race out of my room. Me and Jordan shook our heads before waking down to the kitchen. I sat next to Jordan and mom, Jonathan scarfing down his food in front of me. "Gods, Jon slow down" I exclaimed, throwing a paper towel at him. He said something but with all the food in his mouth I couldn't understand him. "When's dad getting back?" I asked my mother. She froze for a moment before answering, "Soon sweetie" and that was always her response. Honestly, me and my brothers are so used to him not being around that sometimes I forget that he lives here.
After dinner I went to my room to try and read something other than depressing shit to better my mental health, well that's what my therapist tells me. "Okay, no Percy Jackson or Heroes of Olympus because Dr. Finkle said it causes me to think too much about my 'fire' issues" I said, skipping the ten books on my shelf. I kept my finger on a few books before skipping them.
"Why don't you read your retelling of Snow White. You always say it brings a smile to your face" a voice called out from my door. I turned to see my father, his glasses sitting atop of his nose like mine. "How was your trip?" I asked to take a book from my shelf. "I know what you're trying to do Jayden" shit he called me by my full name. I smiled sheepishly at my father, "Technically I didn't do anything" I said, raising my hands up. He raised his eyebrow at me, "Rebel, you were dancing on the roof. Do you know how worried that makes your mother and I" He said, raising his voice slightly at me. "Mom already gave me the lecture, besides I said sorry and if it worries you both too much I won't do it again" I told him sitting on my bed in frustration.
My dad sighed, pinching his nose. He walked over to me, sitting next to me. "Jay, after what happened last summer, me and your mom don't want you getting hurt," Dad said, placing a hand on my shoulder. "Dad, you gotta remember Superman saved me. I know not to do that again, I promise you dad" I said to him, placing my hand on his. He kissed my head softly, staying there for a moment. "I just want you to be safe Jay, that's all I'll ever want" He said before wrapping his arms around me, I hugged him back my head resting on his chest. Once pulled away, my book now on my bed I looked at my Dad. "Do you think that'll be okay in high school?" I asked him, and he gave me a knowing look.
You see, I had to finish 8th grade online because none of my teachers could handle me not being in class but always getting one of the best grades in the class. Not to mention accidentally setting my principal's toupee on fire at the Christmas play. "You're going to be fine Jay. And besides it's not like they're gonna tie you up to a tractor" He said laughing at the end, I rolled my eyes knowing the story of his first day as a freshman too well. "Thanks Dad" I smiled at him, my glasses slipping from my nose. Dad noticed this and pushed them up, he understands what it's like too. Sometimes it's like my father isn't a stranger but that changes all too quickly.
...
I woke up as I always did, by my face hitting the floor. I groaned, rubbing my face to rid me of the pain. I threw on a light blue NASA jumper over a cream spaghetti, black ripped jeans with my black military boots Grandpa Sam got me for my birthday. Slipping on my glasses I walked out my room door, the smell of eggs and toast filling my senses."Jayden! Breakfast is ready!" Dad called from the kitchen. I felt my body give me a rush of adrenaline, racing to the kitchen jumping over a few steps.
"Calm down there Flash" Mom said, stopping me at the bottom of the stairs. "Okay mom" I smiled at her, before getting pulled into a hug. Once I was released from my mother's deadly grasp, I sat next to Jordan who was packing his bag for school. "See, even Jayden has some sense of fashion," Jonathan commented, his fork pointed at me. "No, I'm not getting involved, I always end up on the floor from your attack" I declared as Dad gave me a plate of scrambled eggs and a glass of orange juice. "Thanks Dad" I smiled, eating up my food fast.
Mom came in no longer in her pyjamas and dressed for work. She got Dad to zip up her top, phone and purse in hand. "Jayden, please behave in school today, and that goes for you two as well" Mom told me pointing her fingers at the three of us. "Yes Ma'am" We saluted before a car horn went off. "You're ride is here, love you guys" Mom smiled, kissing my temple before giving me off to Dad for a hug. "Love you Jay" He said, also kissing my temple. "Bye!" Me and the boys said before hopping into one of Jonathan's friend's car.
...
I was walking to AP Calc when I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I fished it out to see a text from Grandma.
'I want you to sing me this song if I ever pass'
I almost choked on air before texting her back.
'Little morbid but okay Grandma, love you💜'
Once I sent the text, I pulled out my air pods clicking the link she put on the message. It must have taken her ages to send the link but props to her.
I listened to the song before getting to my class. I sat near the back, grabbing my textbooks for the class. Not many freshmen are in this class, being honest I think I'm the only one. Once the teacher came in, I got a suspicious look from him. "Miss Kent? Right" He asked me, his voice heavy, his eyes sorrowful. "That's me," I responded, confused at him. "Can you make your way to the principal's office please," He asked me. I nodded and packed my stuff. I headed to the office, school map in hand.
"Jay!" I heard Jordan shout from behind me. "What's going on" He said, coming to my side, giving me a look. "I didn't do anything this time!" I exclaimed, offended. My brother put his hands up in defence, "Okay just curious, I mean it is only fourth period" Jordan told me as we got to the office, Jonathan there too. He went to speak before I stopped him, "Wasn't me" I glared making sure he didn't push me. Jonathan nodded promptly before the office door opened and Mom stepped out, her face the same as my teacher. "Take as much time needed Ms. Lane" out principal aside before closing the door again.
"Mom? What happened!? Is Dad okay?" I asked her, my hand resting on her elbow. "It's your Grandma, she had a stroke and... she's gone" Mom told us, Jonathan and Jordan's faces fell at the news. I felt tears pricking my eyes, how is this possible? Not even ten minutes ago she texted me could she have known she was going to have a stroke? "We're going to Smallville for a few days, your Dad is already there and we'll have the funeral there" Mom explained, taking me out of my thoughts.
When we got home, the boys packed some clothes and other stuff for the next few days. Mom was going through my closet asking my opinion on clothes to bring. I was sitting on my bed, my mind still wondering about the text she sent me. "Jayden? Sweetie?" Mom said, shaking my shoulders slightly. I looked at her, her face wasn't smiling as usual. I opened my mouth to tell her but for some reason I just couldn't, what if it causes Dad to hate me or worse everyone. "Sorry" I finally said before I felt the tears I was holding burst like a waterfall. Mom quickly pulled me into a hug, rubbing circles in my back. "It's okay" Mom whispered in my ear, kissing my hair softly. "I'm scared, I don't know what to do and Dad... what's going to happen to him" I cried into my mother's shoulder.
All of this was like history repeating itself. My best friend Vanessa lost her mother two years ago, it broke her dad completely. He became abusive and an alcoholic, hitting Vanessa and one time he lost it when I stayed for a sleepover last year. He left the stove on and the entire house erupted in flames. He left Vanessa to die forgetting I was even in the house. That's when Superman came, using his freeze breath to stop the fire and saving Vanessa and I from the broken and unstable floors.
Mom must have been reading my mind because what she said next was so scary in a sense. "Sweetie I know what happened with Mr. Peters was scary but you know that your Dad would never hurt you or your brothers or me okay. He loves you all and he would never dare hurt us intentionally. Never" Mom said, pulling away from my trembling form. "I know" I muttered, feeling a bit selfish and guilty at the same time. Mom kissed my head again before she moved my body to lay down on my bed. "Why don't you have a small nap, I'll wake you when your father comes home. Okay?" Mom said, grabbing my comic book blanket from the end of my bed, dropping it over my body. I yawned, the crying really did make me sleepy. My mom took my glasses, which had been soaked in my tears, cleaned them and placed them on my nightstand.
"Rest Jayden, okay" Mom whispered before leaving my room. It only took a few moments for me to fall asleep, my eyes were heavy as if someone put cement blocks on top of them. Yet the moment my eyes closed the world around me became irrelevant only the darkness welcomed me with arms open, way to open.
...
{Author's Perspective}
Clark walked into his home, his glasses crooked from putting them on only moments ago. He looked to see Jordan and Jonathan playing a video game in the living room. "Clark" Lois' voice called, making him turn. His wife smiled softly before hugging him close, Clark wrapped his arms around her. He needed his other half at the moment and he was content for a mere second with her in his arms. Lois pulled away, not before pecking his lips.
That's when Clark noticed the lack of his daughter's presence. "Where's Jayden?" He asked Lois, looking around just in case he overlooked her by accident. "Sleeping. You know how close they were" Lois answered before gesturing to talk away from the boys' eager ears. Once in the hall of their house Lois proceeded to tell Clark what had happened to Jayden when they got home. Clark listened carefully, analysing and understanding what his wife was explaining. His daughter was scared of the outcome of his mother dying and how it would affect him. Clark understood her fears after what happened to Vanessa's father. He remembers her trembling in his arms as he saved her as Superman, the tears streaming down her face. He wished for a moment that Jayden knew his identity so he could have calmed her.
"I think that you should stick with her during the next few days. Reassure her that she's safe, I've already called Dr. Finkle and she's gonna have the next session a week or so after the funeral" Lois told Clark, by her tone she was very worried about Jayden. Since the fire, Jayden became very fearful of anything to do with fire whether it be the stove or a campfire, Jayden would be very scared and careful of her proximity. Even when Sam took the triplets camping, Clark who was close by had to pick Jayden up from the site and bring her home. The boys didn't know much about the incident, only that she was in a house fire, Jayden begged her parents not to say anything to them. Thanks to the protection of minors, Jayden and Vanessa's names were changed and never brought up.
"Okay, I'll talk to her when she wakes up. I might take the truck and go back before you bring the boys" Clark confirmed, gaining a nod from Lois. "You should wake her, I told her I would when you got back but..." Lois tilted her head making Clark chuckle. "Yeah I got it" He smiled before walking up to Jayden's room. He opened the door, listening to her heartbeat. "No nightmares" He let out a sigh of relief before walking over to her bed. Crouching down beside her sleeping from, Clark gently shook Jayden. She groaned slightly, making Clark smile. "Jay" He whispered softly, his daughter shifting in the bed. "Time to wake up sweetie" He whispered before her eyes opened, sleeping in the corner of her eyes.
Jayden took a moment to wake up, her vision blurry without her glasses. She recognised the voice but it took a moment to process. "Daddy?" She whispered softly, still not fully awake. Jayden sat up on her bed, stretching as her father stood up properly. He grabbed her glasses and placed them on her face, earning a thankful smile. "How was your nap?" Clark asked, sitting at the edge of her bed. "It was good," Jayden said, her legs now side by side with Clark's. Jayden laid her head on her father's broad shoulder, closing her eyes. "Was she in pain?" Jayden asked him, her eyes still closed. "No, she died peacefully," Clark said, trying not to cry too much.
"Will it ever go away Dad?" Jayden asked, her voice wavering as she played with her rose ring. Her grandmother gave it to her when she turned fourteen earlier in the year, apparently it was also the one her Grandpa Jonathan bought her for her Thirtieth birthday. Clark looked down at Jayden, he knew what she meant because he asked the same question when his father passed. "That empty feeling, it can never be filled. Never to be replaced" Clark explained, causing his daughter to look at him now questioning his choice of words. "I don't understand," Jayden said to him, her brown eyes filled with curiosity. "Mourning. It's love preserving, that empty feeling is the love we have for those who have passed because they never truly leave us" Clark told her, Jayden smiling softly, her head once more resting on his shoulder. "I'm gonna miss her so much Dad" Jayden whispered softer, not expecting her father to hear.
Clark wrapped his arm around Jayden, noticing the silent tears falling from her face onto his chest. "Don't worry, I'll be there every step to pick you up. I'll never let you fall" Clark told her before giving her a proper hug. This gave Jayden reassurance about her fears, knowing her father wasn't angry with the world or himself. Once the hug had eventually finished, Clark wiped his daughter's tears, also cleaning her glasses in the process. "Tomorrow, just me and you. We'll go back to Smallville before your mom and brothers" Clark told Jayden, brushing some hair behind her ear. Jayden smiled, nodding "I'd like that". Clark kissed her head before standing up, "Come on, let's watch Jordan beat Jonathan at Injustice" Clark suggested, causing Jayden to jump off her bed.
...
Jayden sat in her room, packing her to-go bag for Smallville. She had her gaming headphones that she got off Jordan, the neon blue and black ear muffs blasting Avril Lavigne on shuffle. Jayden grabbed any piece of clothing before throwing it behind her, not happy with it. Jayden huffed in annoyance, how could she not have anything appropriate for a farm funeral. She stood up before going through her closet instead of her drawers. Pushing her black band tees since it was not appropriate and she respects her grandma. She swiped away the floral dresses that she never wore, until she got to the end of the clothes hung up and the bar. Jayden spotted a black jeans overall with a skirt, if she paired it with a black top and tights with her boots it might just work.
Jayden felt a tap on her shoulder, she turned to see Jordan gesturing to her headphones. Slipping them around her neck, Jayden turned to face her brother. "What's up Jord?" She asked him, pausing her music. "Just checking up on you, Dad mentioned you both will be going earlier than us" Jordan shrugged, hands in his pockets. Jayden gave him a sweet smile, "Thanks Jord, I'm feeling better. How about you?". Jordan gave his usual shy smile, "Oh you know, alien as usual" He laughed awkwardly, Jayden along with him. She really knew what he was up to, she was his triplet, all he wanted was a hug. Jayden found it very sweet, stretching her arms out and she motioned her brother to come closer.
Jordan embraced his sister tightly, feeling his emotions lift off his shoulders. "You don't have to dance around it Jordan, honestly you don't even have to ask" Jayden reminded him, rubbing circles into his back. Her older brother just shrugged in her arms, Jayden smiled. "Love you Jord" She smiled, "Love you too Jay" Jordan mumbled, also smiling on his sister's shoulders.
...
Clark was at the stove making breakfast, even though he was sad he still smiled softly. His mother and father were reunited and when the time is right so will he. "What smells so good?" Jayden asked, yawning from behind her father, still in her pyjamas. "Just some eggs and sausages, will you get the orange juice out of the fridge?" Clark asked as he plated up the food. Jayden grabbed the orange juice carton, and had two glasses in between her fingers. Setting one next to her father and his plate and one next to hers. Sitting down, Clark put a knife and fork by his daughter's plate before sitting down himself.
"This is so good" Jayden praised, the food still in her mouth causing Clark to laugh. "Gotta fill ourselves for the drive, you all packed" Clark told her, before eating his own food. Lois and the boys won't be there until four that afternoon, so the father and daughter duo got up at five in the morning to get there earlier and prepare the house for not only their stay but the small gathering after the funeral. "Yeah, just need to change and I'll be ready to go" Jayden told her father, taking a sip of her orange juice. Soon the pair finished their big breakfast, Jayden went to change into some clothes for them that day.
Knowing it would be a busy one, Jayden just threw on a grey shirt that had printed 'I'm not sarcastic. I'm just intelligent beyond your understanding', a pair of blue jean dungarees over her top and her black army boots. Grabbing her to-go bag, Jayden put her phone in the pocket of her dungarees before walking down the stairs not wanting to wake anyone. Her father smiled from the front door, his own to-go bag in hand, "You ready?" He asked, opening the door. Jayden nodded before walking out to her father's truck, its rusty red colour making her smile. For as long as the young Kent could remember, her father always drove his truck when he left without their mother, unless it was a special occasion.
Jayden relaxed in her seat, the feeling of the worn leather giving her a warm feeling. Closing her eyes, Jayden could feel the sun rising on her face. The rumble of the engine causing the truck to vibrate felt as always, peaceful. Clark knew that Jayden loved his truck, unlike her brother who would complain about its small faults like the gear stick sometimes getting stuck which wasn't a real problem for Clark. If he was being honest, Clark hoped to give the truck to Jayden when she turned sixteen.
...
The father-daughter duo had been on the road for a good three hours, Jayden was listening to the radio occasionally humming along. Clark, who was driving, was watching from the corner of his eyes as his daughter rested her head on her arms which were crossed on the opened window, the wind of the countryside blowing her hair softly. Not many knew, but Jayden was a beautiful singer. When she was younger, the girl would drag her parents and brother and perform in the living room. Jayden was looking at the field when a familiar tune played through the truck, her eyes lit up before the young Kent started to sing along.
"Tune in to find my peace and solitude
These empty rooms spin, and I embrace the flaws of being human
The black and white
And sometimes the greys that stay for days
The in between times
The meantime that make this song of life sing"
Jayden sang along, Clark listening carefully, also eyeing her from the corner of his eye still.
"Play, rest, repeat, read exactly what is written on the sheet
'Don't deviate' they say
But I will play what's best for me
I'll press the keys and pull the strings
Create a symphony that's mine"
Jayden was now sitting against her seat, her eyes closed as she sang the song perfectly unaware of her father's smile. Still singing away until the song had ended, Clark almost slammed his brakes when Jayden hit the high notes flawlessly, still adding her own touch to the song. "It's been a while since you've sung, Rebel" Clark commented, looking at Jayden for a moment, before his eyes went back on the road.
"Thanks Dad"
...
Clark parked outside his childhood home, the gift that once made it glow now gone with his mother. Jayden hopped out of the truck, her to-go bag in hand. She noticed her father's face falling, walking to his side Jayden took his hand. "You ready?" She asked, copying his words from earlier this morning. Clark gave Jayden a small smile, wrapping the arm with the hand she held around her smaller frame. Clark kissed her hair, "Come on, a friend of Ma's is coming in a small while. Wanna help tidy up a bit" Clark said, rubbing her arm a bit.
Jayden walked into the house her father grew up in, it had been a couple months since she was last here and it no longer held it's warm feeling. Jayden looked to the stairs, the carpet still looking new but old at the same time. Clark walked past with his bag, setting it by the small table near the door. "Dad?" Jayden asked not knowing he was behind her. "What is it?" Clark asked her. "Could Grandma have known she was going to have the stroke?" Jayden asked, thinking back to the message sent to her yesterday morning. "I don't know. Why something on your mind" Clark asked.
"Just a thought"
Clark nodded for a moment after hesitation, he noticed that Jayden had been very quiet when his mother was brought up. Every time she went up to him, her heart would race but once she said something it dropped. Clark was worried that she was bottling her feelings up again.
>Last Year<
Jayden smiled at Vanessa, the tanned girls dancing to the latest trend. Jayden loved how she could move to the rhythm perfectly, her body moving in sync. Vanessa had tanned skin, bright blue eyes and curly, long brown hair. "What did you think Jaybird?" Vanessa asked her best friend, who was taken out of her trance. "A- Amazing Nessa" Jayden stuttered, moving her stiff legs to let blood flow through. "Thanks Jaybird. So you want something to eat?" Vanessa asked Jayden, opening her bedroom door.
A cloud of black smoke blew into Vanessa's face, the thirteen year old coughing harshly. Jayden grabbed Vanessa and shut the door. "What the fuck!?" Jayden shouted, before rushing to get the forgotten bottle of water Vanessa had earlier. Vanessa took the bottle and gulped it down, Jayden taking her phone out dialling 911.
"911 What's your emergency?" The operator said politely.
"Help, please my friend and I are in a burning building" Jayden said panicked, Vanessa coughing again.
"Okay, what's your names?" The operator asked.
"I'm Jayden and my friend is Vanessa" Jayden said, seeing the light from underneath the door getting closer.
"The fire, it's getting closer, please the stress is 1806 College View" Jayden shouted, her hands shaking vigorously.
"A Fire Truck is on its way, now you and Vanessa need to get to a corner of a room and put something over your mouths to stop the inhale of smoke" the operator told Jayden.
Jayden got two stray tops, handing one to Vanessa before she got them both to the corner of Vanessa's room, which was where her bed was.
...
Clark flew through the air, his cape flapping behind him. He listened out for any other emergencies before he headed home.
"Vanessa! Don't, you'll get burned!"
Clark almost fell from the air, Jayden was in trouble. He pushed his limits, Clarks flew faster to his daughter's location. He felt as if the world around him was collapsing as he listened to his daughter's screams. Using his x-ray vision, Clark could see the heat of the fire getting closer to the people, Jayden and her friend Vanessa. Clark noticed that Vanessa's father wasn't there and he felt enraged. But he put that aside, right now he had to save his daughter... and her friend.
Once at the house, Clark flew into the room where Jayden was crying, Vanessa's boy limp and red next to her. "Superman!" Jayden cried, trying to stand only to topple back down. Clark went to grab her before Jayden stopped him. "Take Nessa first, she got burned badly please" Jayden begged, trying to lift her friend but winced at the weight. Clark noticed not only a large burn on Jayden's arm but a deep cut in the centre. "Please Superman, save her" Jayden cried, her breath uneven before she coughed harshly. Clark took Vanessa in his arms, "I'll be back as fast as I can. I promise" He said before flying out of the house and getting Vanessa to the paramedics on scene.
"She has severe burns. I'm going to get the other girl, she had a burn and a deep cut on her left arm" Clark said before flying back in to get Jayden. Once he landed in front of Jayden, Clark used his ice breath to calm the fire. He turned to Jayden, who was barely standing straight. He gently lifted her into his arms, Jayden still crying on his chest. "Don't worry, you're safe now" Clark stopped himself from saying sweetie or anything that could give off his secret identity. Once on the ground, Jayden was taken by the paramedic before Clark flew away.
Jayden sat on the base of the firetruck, her hand was bandaged. She was waiting for her mom or dad to come and escort or the hospital. "Jayden!" A voice called out. The young girl turned to see her father, running towards her worry all over his face. "Dad!" Jayden yelled, jumping off the firetruck. Clark wrapped his arms around Jayden, careful to the bandaged arm. He could hear Jayden silently crying as she tightened her grip, Clark rubbed her back gently allowing her to cry. "Shhh. It's okay Rebel, I'm here now" Clark soothed, kissing her head.
...
Lois sighed as Jayden hid under her blankets. "Jayden you need to get up" Lois said, her tone quite harsh. Jayden mumbled from under the covers, her black and blue hair in a messy bun. Lois could see she wasn't getting anywhere, so she got her secret weapon. "Clark, please convince her to get dressed at least" Lois whispered desperately to her husband as he put on his tie. Ever since the fire, Jayden refused to move or even go to her essential therapy sessions to help her fear over fire. Clark is the only one to even convince Jayden to get out of bed lately.
Clark walked up to Jayden's room, rehearsing what he was going to say in his head. Once by her door, Clark knocked softly. "Rebel, sweetie. Can I come in?" Clark heard a soft yes, with the help of his enhanced hearing. Walking in softly, Clark frowned at his daughter's current state. She looked sickly, as if Kryptonitr was affecting her. "I don't wanna go" Jayden moaned, her head shifting to see her father's face. Clark walked over to her bed and smiled softly. "I know sweetie, but you have to. If you want I'll go with you" Clark suggested, brushing some hair out of her face.
"Okay?"
"Okay"
>Present Day<
Jayden walked carefully into her grandma's room, a sense of death filling her senses. Looking around, Jayden touched small little things, like the curtains, her bed and drawers very carefully. Looking around, her eyes landed on a photo album labelled 'Jonathan, Jordan and Jayden'. Tears pricked at Jayden's eyes as she picked up the heavy photo album.
She sat on the edge of her bed, opening the photo album. Pictures of her mother's hospital scans litter the first couple of pages. Then pictures of the boys and Jayden with their Dad out on the fields of the family farm. Some included Lois feeding Jordan, Clark feeding Jonathan and Martha feeding Jayden. Then some including Clark's friend Kara and her sister Alex who were dubbed Auntie Kara and Auntie Alex by Jayden at a young age. Her grandma had every photo of Jayden and her brothers, from their christening to the latest birthday and then more.
"She would have killed me if I didn't send weekly pictures of you guys"
Jayden turned to see her father leaning against the door frame. "I don't even remember half of this being honest" Jayden laughed softly, still flicking through the photo album. "There's someone downstairs I want you to meet," Clark told Jayden, standing up straight. "Who is it?" Jayden asked him, putting the heavy album beside her on the bed. Clark smiled before leaving his daughter in curiosity. Jayden sprung after him, she was intrigued about this mysterious guest. Walking down the stairs, Jayden followed the shadow of her father into the kitchen.
Jayden was met with an older woman, probably the same age as her parents, maybe older, sitting down on the wooden chair. "You must be Jayden. Martha spoke highly of you, a trouble maker was her exact words if I believe so" the woman smiled at Jayden, who smiled back at her. "Jayden this is Ms Marin, she's helping us with the funeral" Clark said, trying to be a bit more cheery than he was. "Yes, now you Clark will need to get my bag from my car" The woman ushered Clark with keys juggling in her hand. Clark smiled at her, taking the keys and heading out the door.
Ms Marin changed her soft smile to a serious one. "Now we only have a few moments but, that song you're grandma sent" Jayden was taken back, she never told anyone about it. "Well, I helped send it for her. It was one of her last requests. She wanted you to sing it at the Funeral, before they bury her" Ms Marin said softly, seeing the girl's shock. "Now I know that you didn't tell anyone, especially Clark. Your grandma knew you wouldn't " Jayden smiled a small bit, her grandma always knew her best. "I know that it might be hard but I want to ask you if you truly wanted to" Ms Marin, placed a hand on Jayden's smiling softly. However Jayden knew her answer and she also knew that if she made the wrong decision, she better start digging her own grave fast.

Jayden sat on her bed, holding the black hat that she had left behind. Thankfully her mother brought it with her when she and her brothers came late last night. A small knock took her out of her thoughts, looking up Jayden saw Jonathan with his shit eating grin. "You ready to go 'cause we could just dump you back in the river where we found you" Jonathan said nonchalantly at the door frame. Jayden rolled her eyes at him, a smile forming. "Did I just get an eye-roll and a smile from the Jayden Kent" Jonathan boasted, as if he had won an Oscar or something. "Oh shut up dipshit" Jayden scoffed, getting to his side and hitting him in the stomach. As Jonathan winced, the pair heard their father scold Jayden's language.
"Time for the water works" Jonathan said as Jordan came up to them, his face more gloomy than ever. Jayden noticed his mood and gave him a side hug, while dragging Jonathan into it despite his protests. "Just remember, best things come in threes" Jayden smiled, before dropping the brother down the stairs. "Come on you three, before your mother kills me" Clark said as the triplets came down the stairs with Jayden as the leader.
Her hair was down showing off her blue ends with a braided crown in the centre with her hat on top. He remembered the small weight in his pocket. "Wait Jayden!", said girl turned from the front door, hair flipping with her movement. "What's wrong dad?" Jayden asked her father, tilting her head slightly. Clark pulled out the silver pendant in his pocket, causing Jayden to falter slightly. "Is that?" Jayden was speechless at the pendant in her father's hand. "I want you to have it, you were always the closest with Ma" Clark said, smiling tearfully at Jayden. His daughter rushed to his form, hugging him tight her head on his chest. "Thanks Dad" Jayden said although it was muffled by her tears. Clark kissed her head before gesturing to allow him to put on the necklace.
Turning around Jayden pulled her hair to her shoulder, allowing her father to place the necklace on her neck. The cold metal made her body shiver slightly, looking down she saw the purple gemstone glistening in the sunlight. "Done," Clark said before fixing Jayden's hair.
...
The church was filled with people to pay their respects to Martha Kent. Many made speeches about her kindness, her courage and will to help others. The small ceremony was very sad, Clark had cried while Lois was holding his hand doing the same. Jonathan and Jordan were on either side of their little sister, who was awfully quiet which worried them greatly. "Now, to fulfil one of Martha's last requests" that was her signal, getting up Jayden walked to the altar leaving her family stunned behind her.
Now behind the microphone placed for her, Jayden took a breath as the music started.
"If I could break away half of all your pain
I'd take the worst of it and carry you like you carry me
You say that you're alright when tears are in your eyes
We're strong enough for this and I need you
It's okay that you need me
So put your armor on the ground tonight
'Cause everyone's got to come down sometimes"
Jayden took a breath
"You don't have to be Superman
You don't have to be Superman
You don't have to hold the world in your hands
You've already shown me that you can
Don't have to be Superman"
Clark became more aware of the song now, his heart racing. Did Jayden know?
"I know I've been gone too much
We talk about me too much
I'm selfish and distracted but I'm here and I'm listening
And it's just you and me and these four walls
And we are only human after all
You don't have to be Superman
You don't have to be Superman
You don't have to hold the world in your hands
You've already shown me that you can
Don't have to be Superman"
Jayden became more comfortable with her performance, holding the mic tightly to stop her from faltering.
"And oh-oh-oh-oh
Rest your eyes now, take my hand
Even heroes fall down now and then"
Jayden held the last note, lengthening its little power ballad. She could feel the water works ready to burst and she let them
"You can let it go
You don't have to be Superman
You don't have to be Superman
You don't have to hold the world in your hands
You've already shown me that you can
Don't have to be Superman
You don't have to be Superman"
By now the youngest Kent was crying silently as she finished, wiping her eyes. Lois and Clark looked at each other worried, they both knew what the other was thinking. Did Jayden know? The people in the church clapped gently at Jayden's performance, know one knew the young Kent could sing like that. Jayden walked back to her seat, her brothers giving her a tight hug. Jayden just cried, sitting down she felt a soft hand on her leg. Looking up Lois gave her a small yet proud smile, along with her father but Jayden could tell there was something else.
Outside, everyone came to see the coffin lowered roses in hand. Clark went first, then Lois, Jonathan, Jordan and Jayden, who knew that roses weren't her grandmother's thing, threw a plastic blue tulip. "Why a tulip?" Clark asked his daughter. "Grandma said that when the adoption was finalised, Grandpa bought her blue tulips" Jayden said quietly, her gaze not torn from the lowering coffin. Clark smiled sadly, his daughter was really something else.

{Jayden's Perspective}
I sat on the old tire swing, a paper plate of food in my hands as I swung softly. "Hey! Jayd come over here" I heard Jonathan shout. I looked to see him and Jordan sitting on one of the benches nearby. I knew that if I didn't go to them, Jonathan would drag me by my head. I walked over to him as he sat on the table. "What's up losers" I smiled at my brothers, allowing them to ether scoff or roll eyes at me. "Nothing just making sure you don't..." I knew where Jordan was going. "Mom sent you on my tail didn't she?" And per usual a chorus of yes followed. "I promised Dad that wouldn't start anything" I told them, sigh of relief left their mouths.
"Look, I'm going into the barn. I hate sympathy from strangers" I said walking to the barn. "Didn't Dad say never to go in there" Jonathan shouted but I ignored him. As I walked into the barn, a weird feeling took over me.
"Weird"
I sat by the ladder, the wifi router was above it and I really needed to get away and listen to anything else. I just sat there listening to music. It must have been a long time cause I felt a tap on my shoulder. Taking out my earphones, I looked to see my brothers and a familiar girl with them. "Hey losers, and girl who I barely remember" I smiled getting up from the floor, wiping some off my tights. "Could you sort out the wifi please" Jonathan asked me.
"Of course, since you both are pussies when it comes to Dad's rules" I smiled handing my stuff to Jordan since I know he won't lose them. I started to climb on the ladder almost falling after a few steps. "You okay" the girl called from below me. "I've climbed over my school's brick walls more than once. I can handle this ladder" I said to her, still not knowing her name. "Are you sure that she's your sister" the girl said to my brothers. "Sometimes I wonder the same thing" I called back over my shoulder as I finally reached the wifi router.
I tried to fix it, simply by turning it on and off. "I can't reach it" I groaned slightly, failing to reach it. "Jay, do you really think you should balance on one foot? Looks kinda unstable to me" Jonathan shouted from below me. "Jon! I'm going to be okay" I said looking at him. Turning I finally reached the off button, "I got it!". As I went to press the button, I felt the ladder come out from under me. I screamed loudly, seeing the metal pipes from the high shelf fall above me.
I hit the ground with a thump, feeling an arm wrap around me as the metal pipes. "It's going to be okay," I heard Jordan whisper into my ear. "What is happening, why did you do that!" I whispered, feeling tears come down my face. "Jordan! Jayden! Are you two okay?" I heard Dad yell, his voice in concern it felt very familiar. I closed my eyes, my breathing evening. I felt a sharp pain in my hand, shutting all over my arm. "Dad! I think Jayden is having a panic attack" I heard Jordan over the clank of pipes.
I felt my father wrap his arms around my trembling form. "It's okay," He said, putting me on my feet. "Jonathan, get her to your mother now!"
I sat next to Jordan as the paramedic Dad knew, and finished checking up on us. "You both got lucky, only two minor concussions and a sprained wrist" he told us. Mom rubbed our shoulders gently, smiling at us. "I'm never climbing that ladder again" I grumbled, earning a few laughs. "A little rest, and you both will be fine" he said before Dad thanked him, apparently his name is Benny. "Come on you two. Especially you Jayden that medication will knock you out for the night" Mom said, patting my back.
I got up from the porch, feeling dizzy very fast. "Okay, time for you to take a nap" Dad said, helping me stand up. My eyes felt very heavy, and I don't think I had control over my legs because I felt them give out from under me. My eyelids felt way too heavy and next thing I know my Dad caught my legs and I was out like a light.
...
"Jayden! Wake up"
I felt a hard hit in my shoulder. My eyes shot open as I caught the pillow Jonathan was hitting me with. "That's new," Jonathan said. "Whatever, why did you wake me?" I asked him, rubbing my eyes. I saw Jordan come in with some flashlights. "Great, Jayden you up for snooping around the barn," Jordan said, throwing me a flashlight. "Wait, really! Finally you both grew some balls" I said jumping up from my bed. "Jon, where is my jacket?" I asked, looking around. "Which one? The one you stole from Brett Donahue when he poured that smoothie on you or the jacket that you 'borrowed' from Jason Scott after he asked you out after he tried to slap your ass?" Jordan responded, causing Jon to drop his phone.
"Jason Scott tried to slap your ass and you didn't tell me!" Jon exclaimed, causing me and Jordan to shush him. "Look, I will tell you everything about that but let's snoop around the barn" I smiled at him before walking out of my room with my leather jacket that I stole from Brett Donahue. I heard Jordan and Jonathan come after me.
"I swear, this place just looks more archaic every time I come here," I said as Jonathan brushed away a cobweb. "Says the girl who spends half her time here when we visit" Jon said to me as we walked around looking for something weird. "I avoid people who I don't know, there's a difference" I told him. "You really think Dad's hiding something from us?" Jonathan asked Jordan, ignoring me per usual. "Me and Jay had all those poles on us" Jordan started, his voice doing that 'Just wait for the amazing part' thing.
"Besides, how did he get them off us so fast, anyway" Jordan finished still looking around the barn. Honestly, I'm starting to think my brother was losing it big time. "I don't know. Adrenaline, maybe?" Jonathan suggested, shrugging his arms. "Like a soccer mom lifting a car kind of thing" Jonathan added seeing the look on Jordan's face. "No idiot!" I said, hitting his gut, "And besides, Dad can't even put up a Christmas tree without falling off the ladder" I told Jordan who just shook his head.
"And what's the thing he says every single time we come here?" Jordan asked me and Jonathan.
"Don't put your finger in that?/ Please don't get arrested?" Me and Jonathan said at the same time.
My brothers gave me a look, "Okay maybe that's just me" I said still looking around the barn. "Stay out of the barn. Dumbass" Jordan retorted at us, I was offended. "Not you Jay" Jordan added, making me smile and sticking my tongue out at Jon who was using the fake pout face. "Jordan, what are we looking for anyways?" I asked him after dropping an old pipe thing. "Just something unusual. Something out of place" Jordan said as he walked away from the old fence. Then he just stopped, looking back at us.
"What?" Jon asked for both of us. "You hear that?" Jordan asked us, before he hit the wooden floor of the barn. "The poles, they must have shifted the floor," Jon suggested as we watched Jordan move some of the hay around the floor. "Umm, I think that's a door" I said before I helped Jordan on the floor, this was getting interesting. "Look. Right there. Jon helped us" I told him, my older brother coming to help us.
We all looked at each other, "Three, two, one". The door opened with a thump as we pushed it over. "Get your flashlight on" Jordan told us, getting his own out. "Wonder what's down here worth hiding" I said walking down the old wooden stairs. "This is literally just an old cellar," Jon announced, his excitement wearing down fast. I ignored him as I looked around the place. "It's probably Grandpa's old tool storage or something" Jonathan said, still being a buzzkill. "Don't listen to him Jordan" I called over my shoulder. It was quiet for a moment, despite the ringing in my ears that for some weird reason sounded like my Dad's truck.
"Jay? Jon?" Jordan called, his voice shaken. I quickly turned to my brothers seeing a weirdly shaped object with a large tarp over it. Jordan and Jonathan pulled it over and for a moment I swore I heard someone's voice. I saw a weird pod thing, it kinda reminded me of a spaceship. "What is that thing?" Jonathan asked, the three of us stepping closer. I went to touch it, my hand felt like it had a mind of its own. "What are you doing? Don't touch that!" Jon said but it was too late. The weird vibrations from the metal stopped and somehow became more defined. The ringing in my ears got louder, I could hear random voices talking about anything.
"Oh my God. Did you see that, Jay what did you do?" Jordan freaked out, pushing my behind him slightly. "I- I don't know, all I did was touch it!" I yelled, my breathing becoming uneven. "What the hell is this thing anyways?" Jonathan asked, flashing the light on it. "Whatever it is.." Jordan said doing the same. "It's not from Kansas" he finished.
I heard a familiar humming, "Mom and Dad are back"

{Author's Perspective}
Jayden ran after her brothers, shouting at them not to overreact. The moment she saw her parents and their reactions to her and her brother, Jayden knew something was going to happen. "Jon, Jord please don't start something" She begged them trying to pull them back. "So that's why?" Jordan yelled at Clark who was taken back by his sudden anger. "Why you never wanted us in the barn? 'Cause you keep a freakin' alien ship in there!" Jordan shouted, causing Jonathan and Jayden to pull him back.
"Bro, calm down. I'm sure Dad can explain" Jayden said to Jordan, wincing at the large ringing of a phone. "Can he?" Jordan asked, still very angry. "Can you explain how Jayden fell from 30 feet and all she had was a sprained wrist, or how you just so happened to lift those metal pipes like it was nothing!" Jordan screamed, making his voice go hoarse. "Let your Dad explain" Lois told her son, trying to stop this from getting blown out of proportion.
"You said that we got lucky. But that was a lie, wasn't it?" Jordan snapped at Clark. "Yes! Yes, okay?" Clark shouted, causing his daughter to jump back at his sudden and very loud outburst. "It was a lie. Look, that ship... brought me to Earth. I landed here in Smallville, right in those cornfields over there" Clark pointed out to the fields. "I was sent here when my planet... Krypton, was destroyed" Clark admitted. "Krypton?" Jayden asked in disbelief, her hands no longer holding her brother back. "Yes, because I wasn't from here, I had certain powers. Your grandparents, they took me in, they raised me. They taught me how to control my abilities, how to blend in until the day I was ready to leave and become who I was sent here to be" He explained to the triplets, seeing the disbelief on their faces.
"Your saying you're Superman?" Jonathan asked his father. However Jayden spoke up, "No, I've seen Superman before. We all have seen him before" She stated, her voice wavering over the loud noises. Clark took off his glasses, handing them to Lois as he got behind his truck and lifted it into the air, the triplets taken back. Jonathan and Jordan looked at each other in pure shock and disbelief. Jayden watched as he flew in the air, the truck in his bare hands. She could hear every creak in the metal, feeling something drip down her ears.
"When your father first told me, I didn't understand either" Lois told her children, trying to help them process the news. "I understand," Jordan said as his father lowered his truck. "I understand all the excuses. All the times you were gone, you lied to us. You both did!" Jordan accused his parents. "He was saving lives, Jordan" Lois tried to negotiate with her son only to be ignored. "That doesn't make it less true! You lied to protect his secret" Jordan yelled, tears in his eyes.
Jayden closed her eyes as she felt a huge wave of noise overcome her. She clutched her hands to her ears as the cries of a baby, the rumble of engines, the sounds of multiple gunshots and shouting. Lots and lots of shouting. "You may have been sent here to be some hero, but you sure as hell weren't sent to be a father!" Jordan shouted.
"STOP SHOUTING!" Jayden screamed, her hands shaking as her palms had blood on them. "Jayden, why is there blood on your hands?" Lois asked her, concerned about her daughter. "Make it stop please someone" Jayden cried harder, feeling this overwhelming urge to scream. Clark came to her quickly, hearing her heart rate speed up every second. "Lois get behind me now," Clark told his wife. "Jayden, I need you to focus on my voice," Clark said, placing his hands on Jayden's shoulders.
"Please make it STOP!" Jayden screamed, a blast of energy left her body. If it wasn't for the fact Clark was shielding Jayden, Lois and the boys would have been hurt badly. Jayden's blast caused her to fall to the ground, crying from the pain. Jonathan went to help her only if Jordan didn't pull him back. "Let Superman deal with this" He spat walking back into the house. "Jonathan please go with your brother, make sure he doesn't hurt himself" Lois told her son, who nodded following his brother.
...
Clark finished cleaning the blood from Jayden's ears as she sat there quietly. "Do you want to talk about it?" Clark asked her, putting away the medical supplies. "You saved me last year" Jayden said, still trying to process the last half an hour. "I did" Clark confirmed as he puts the medical box back in the drawer. "Why did you wait over a year to tell me" Jayden asked him, finally looking at her father. "I didn't want my other job to get in the way of your recovery. I wanted to tell you but..." Clark told Jayden, kneeling in front of her. "I got diagnosed with Pryophobia" Jayden finished for him, knowing he didn't want to cause another fight. "Look, Dad I know that you can shoot lasers from your eyes and that can cause a fire, but I trust you more than a candle" Jayden reassured her father, patting his shoulder.
Clark gave her a questioning look, "I don't think that is a good thing" He said. "Well it's the best I can give cause I still hate fire" Jayden said getting up from her chair. "I better check on Jordan," Jayden smiled before walking away.
Jayden knocked on her brother's door, "Jord, it's me" She called before the door opened. Jordan gave his sister an exaggerated sigh. "May I come in" Jayden asked him, before walking into his room. "I never said you could" He told his sister as she sat on his bed. "I wanted to make sure you were okay," Jayden smiled at him. "I'm good, actually I'm going to a party with Jon" Jordan said pulling on a zip-up hoodie. "What?" Jayden asked, a little surprised at this. "Jon is outside with Eliza," Jordan told her, knowing what was about to happen.
"Jon, are you crazy! Bringing Jordan to a huge social event!" Jayden snapped at her brother, hitting him continuously. "Jayden, seriously it was his idea and if you want to come then..." Jonathan smiled at Jayden. "Then I'm going to help you with something I'm going to deeply regret" She groaned. "You and I need to help Jordan get Sarah" Jayden looked at him confused. "Who's Sarah?" She asked, finally standing up properly. "The girl who was with us in the barn?"
"Oh! Her name was Sarah?" Jonathan looked at his sister weird as if to say 'really'. "What!" Jayden defended only to be ignored. "Look, get dressed and meet us in ten minutes. And please dress cool" Jonathan said before rushing out the door. Honestly, Jayden didn't want to go but Jordan needs to get at least a friend and if she could help with that it's what she would do. Jayden quickly threw on her wine jumper with a planet embroidered and the matching black hat, a pair of ripped jeans, her vans and a pair of headphones before she headed downstairs. "Great let's go" Jonathan said, ushering me and Jordan out the door.
On the entire walk, the boys didn't tell Jayden where they were going. "Guys really, where are we....No!" Fire, please no. "Come on Jayden!" Jonathan exclaimed, waving his hands. "No you idiot! You do realise I was in a house fire last year" Jayden told him, while hitting him in the arm repeatedly. "Jayden is right Jon, it isn't good for her mental health" Jordan added pulling his sister's arms away. "Thank you, and besides I can barely be around a candle unless I put it into a glass lantern much less a huge bonfire!" She told him, only for her idiot brother to run up to some of his friends dragging Jordan with him.
"Great now I'm stuck near a huge, uncontrollable fire. My moronic brother dragged the brother who isn't to get a girl' Jayden thought as she walked away from the raging bonfire. Jayden felt someone bump into her, and the smell of vodka engulfed her senses. "Sorry! My friend is completely wasted" a girl said from behind Jayden. She turned to see her, and by god she was pretty. She has straight brown hair, hazel eyes and dark skin which glowed in the firelight.
"No, it's okay, I just need to think of an excuse to tell my parents. Mostly my dad" Jayden grimaced, remembering the last time she came home with a smell of alcohol, oh and her Dad is fucking Superman. "Let me guess, stuck up parents?" The girl guesses as she somehow got two more cups and handed one to the young Kent. "More like brothers are less inclined to break a few rules"Jayden smirked, sipping her drink "Oh thank the heavens it's whiskey" Jayden cheered, causing the girl to laugh at her.
"My name's Lilli" She smiled at Jayden, holding out her hand. "Jayden, most people just call me Jay" She smiled at Lilli shaking her hand. "So you from Smallville or visiting?" Lili asked as the pair walked away from the bonfire, making Jayden's nerves go down slightly. "Um, my grandma died and my Dad grew up here" Jayden said, drinking more of the whiskey to bury the emotional pain. "Well, me and my brother just moved back," Lili told me, smiling. Jayden was shocked to see the lack of sympathy and she likes not having strangers pity her. Jayden and Lilli talked for a while until a fight broke out by the forest. Jayden looked around, before almost spitting out her drink. "Sorry, I gotta go. It was nice meeting you Lili!" Jayden smiled before running away.
She got to Jonathan who was fighting some guy. "Hey! Get off of him" Jayden yelled, hitting the guy in his gut. "Jay help Jordan I'll be fine!" Jon yelled before fighting back the guy his sister punched. Jayden looked to see Jordan get held down. "Jordan!" Jayden screamed as his eyes started to glow red. Jayden watched as the guys holding him fell back from the explosion. Jayden felt the force of heat hit her back. "Jayden!" someone screamed as she was propelled towards the forest.

{Jayden's Perspective}
I must have blacked out for a few moments, fire was all around me. I could hear everything, fire truck sirens, people screaming or breathing heavily. It was overwhelming, I heard thumping every second and it was terrifying. "Please make it stop" I whimpered, covering my ears. I felt the tears on my face burn from the fire around me. It was like the house fire all over again, the flames and the screaming.
One moment the heat made my scar flare in pain, the next it was cool like it was the middle of winter. "Jayden!" I barely heard my father over all the noise. "Please make it stop" I whimpered, feeling my hands shake. I felt my father's hands on mine, "Sweetie, focus on my voice" his voice barely heard. "I can barely hear you," I said, opening my eyes to see him. "I know, just focus on my voice. Make it louder every time you hear me" My dad said and I listened. With every word I wanted him to be the main focus.
I took my hands off my ears and smiled softly at my dad. "It worked," I told him. Dad smiled at me before helping off the ground. "Jonathan and Jordan? Are they okay?" I asked him, worried for my brothers. "They're both fine and with your mother. Let's get you home" He said as we walked to the rest of my family. "You're going to kill them for bringing me to a bonfire, aren't you?" I grimaced as we got closer to my older brothers. "Oh yeah, definitely. I think your mother will have a huge say in that" Dad said as he wrapped an arm around me.
...
"What were you two thinking! Bringing your sister who has pyrophobia to a bonfire!" Mom shouted as Jonathan and Jordan flinched at the table. "Mom, please stop" I pleaded with her softly. She looked at me with her 'come on' face. "Lois maybe you should calm down a bit. The triplets have been through enough" Dad suggested, successfully calming her down. "Fine, Jayden, please go and get changed. I can smell the whiskey on your breath" Mom told me, and I left the kitchen as fast as I could.
I changed into some pyjamas and decided to read a book that was on my TBR for quite some time. As I got to the fifth chapter, I heard a knock on my door. I turned to see Jordan lingering at my door, his face down. I sighed at him, "Jordan, I'm not scared of you at all" I told him, gesturing for him to come in. "I just don't want you to hate me" he said, his voice all sad and mopey. "Jordan, come on," I said, hitting his shoulder. "You're my big brother, my triplet I could never be scared of you.... unless you became a mass murder" I joked causing him to laugh. I smiled at my brother, seeing him happy was always a win.
"So you don't hate me?" Jordan asked me once more. "No, I actually love you more than Jon if that makes you feel better" I told him. "Wanna play some Injustice?" Jordan offered. "Yes! Imma crush you" I jumped, pulling Jordan off my bed. I dragged him out of my room before I noticed my lantern had a lighted candle. "Two seconds" I told him, opening the door to my lantern and blowing out the candle.
"Dibs on Atrocitus" I told Jordan before running to his room.
"Hey no fair!"

Jayden smiled as Jordan talked with Sarah. "Jayden!" A familiar voice called. Jayden turned to see Lilli coming in. Her hair was in boxer braids "Lilli! How are you after last night?" Jayden told her, taking her coffee from the waitress. "Oh I left during the fight, if I get in trouble with the cops again my brother will freak out" Lilli explained to Jayden. Jayden was surprised, Lilli didn't seem like the trouble making type. "So you have any plans for the day?" Lilli asked her, catching Jayden by surprise.
"No, I'm free today" Jayden answered, trying her best not to stutter. "Great, wanna go explore the town?" Lilli suggested. "Sure! Let's go" Jayden smiled as the pair walked out of the diner, but not without the prying eyes of her brothers.
"I told you Jord, she definitely plays for the other team" Jon mused, watching his sister laugh with the other girl outside the diner windows until they were out of sight. "Actually it was the other way round Jon, you still believe that Jay liked boys" Jordan told his brother while taking a sip of his drink. Jonathan rolled his eyes at Jordan.
...
"And she was like 'Beginners Luck' and I looked her in the eyes and said, 'If that was so you'd be married'" Jayden laughed along with Lilli. "And you got suspended for that! Metropolis really is stuck up" Lilli smiled, wrapping her warm coat around her tightly. Even in Smallville the weather was drastically different. Jayden smiled at Lilli, she was different from the other girls she met. Lilli was very forward, never let anything left unsaid, but she was also kind and sweet, not allowing anyone to be left out.
Not to mention her looks. Lilli's skin glowed in the autumn sun, her caramel eyes shining in its light. Lilli wore a black leather jacket, blue ripped jeans and ironically a superman graphic t-shirt. A phone ringing brought Jayden out of her thoughts, Lilli groaned as she looked at her screen. "Sorry, it's my brother. He told me he'd call when he wanted me home" Lilli sighed standing up from the bench the two sat on.
Jayden only smiled in sympathy, she knew what it was like having a family check up on you. "It's fine Lilli, I'll text later. See you tomorrow?" Jayden offered, putting some hair behind her ear. Lilli nodded, mouthing yes as she answered her brother. Jayden walked her way to the diner, ringing her own father to bring her back to the farm.
Lilli looked back at the retreating Kent, "Don't worry brother. I found her. I found Supergirl"
Jayden smiled as she hopped in her Dad's truck, Clark smiling in return for his daughter's bright nature. "How was your trip around Smallville?" Clark asked her, starting up the engine of his truck. "I made a friend actually? Who knew a bonfire could do that" Jayden smiled brighter, Clark surprised by her uplifting mood.
"Really? Please tell me!" Clark asked excitedly, it had been a long time since Jayden made a friend. "Her name is Lilli and she just moved here with her brother" Jayden gushed, her heart racing just thinking about her new 'friend'. "Speaking of moving. What would you say about staying? Here, in Smallville" Clark asked his daughter carefully, knowing Jayden would jump out of his moving truck. "I've loved this place for as long as I can remember. Hell I wanted to live with Grandma when I was five" Jayden reminisced, looking at her father. Clark laughed slightly, remembering how Jayden ran up to him clutching his leg as tightly as she could, she then decided that she wanted to stay with him and Lois.
"Won't you miss Metropolis?" Clark asked his daughter. "Being honest, Metropolis hasn't felt like home in a long time" Jayden sighed, leaning against the window as they drove back to the family farm.
Earth-TUD22
Lilli ran towards a locker, her hands glowing green. In a burst of energy a long wooden staff flew to her hands.
The teen was dressed in a dark green cloak, her dark hair was long with neon green highlights. Her own eyes glowed a bright green in the darkness.
"Lilli! Do you have it?" A voice called.
"Don't worry Jayden...
Superman will fall by the Luthoriana Coven"
Lilli's staff glowed green, a huge crystal glowing the same colour.
"I will not allow her to be controlled like them"
