A time to save family

A/N: So, just to be clear, Peter doesn't have his web shooters since he hasn't made the web fluid yet.

------------------------

Kara watched from the window of the ship as she was taken away from the place she had called home for the past five years. She then looked out and couldn't help but notice that it was an old scout ship they were taking her to. The ship made its way into the hangar and parked itself, and Kara was led through the ship.

Zod stood staring out the window of his ship, looking down at the planet of Earth. When Kara was brought to him, he said, "Kara Zor-El."

"Zod," Kara greeted him casually.

"General Zod," Faora-Ul tells Kara. "Our commander."

"It's all right, Faora," he said. He didn't want to cause any more conflict between them, the last of their kind. "We can forgive Kara any lapses in decorum. After spending years on this backwater planet, she's a stranger to our ways. This should be cause..." then he placed a shoulder on Kara's shoulder. "...for celebration, not conflict."

Kara started feeling lightheaded, and her ears began ringing. "Uh...no good," she said, then fell to her knees and tried to stand back up. "I...I feel strange." She then spit out some blood. "What's happening to me?"

"You're rejecting our ship's atmosphere," Zod explained to her. "You've spent a lifetime adapting to Earth's ecology, but you've never adapted to ours."

Kara started to slump down and fell onto the ground.

------------------------

When Kara woke up and felt the ground of Earth beneath her, she knew something was wrong. She had to take a moment to get back on her feet and start looking around the area. When she looked down at her outfit, she saw that it had returned to her casual clothing. Soon, she realized that she was currently in the same field where she first landed. Her ship was even there, crashed into the dirt.

"Hello, Kara," Zod said, getting her attention and causing Kara to jump and look toward him. "I'm sure your mother has told you much about me."

"I know you were Krypton's military leader; my uncle was your scientist," Kara stated.

Zod nodded, seeing that she understood who he was. "The only thing we agreed on...was that Krypton was dying. In return for my efforts...to protect our civilization...and save our planet...I and my fellow officers were sentenced to the Phantom Zone."

"And then the destruction of our world freed you," Kara guessed.

Zod nodded as he recalled what became of him. "We were adrift, destined to float...amongst the ruins of our planet until we starved."

"How did you find your way to Earth?" Kara questioned how he was capable of following her into this world.

"We managed to retrofit the Phantom Projector into a Hyperdrive," Zod explained, as Kara watched as some projection of the memory appeared. "Your father made a similar modification to the craft that brought you here. And so the instrument of our damnation...became our salvation. We sought out the old colonial outposts...looking for signs of life. But all we found was death. Cut off from Krypton, these outposts... withered and died long ago. We salvaged what we could...armor, weapons, even a World Engine. That was until we finally, detected a distress beacon. Which was triggered once your pod was damaged."

"What?" Kara muttered to herself, uncertain about what had happened to her pod. But this only confirmed her worst fear, that she led Zod here to earth. This is all because of her. She did this. She brought more death and more chaos to Earth.

"You led us here, Kara," Zod told her, causing Kara to question what she had done. "Now it's within your power...to save what remains of your race." Kara watched a projection of Zod's ship crashing onto the planet's surface, sending debris flying everywhere. "The Codex has the genetic template for every being yet to be born encoded into the registry of citizens. Your parents stole and stored it in the capsule that brought you here. Not just to protect you. But so that Krypton could live again."

Kara froze in fear, knowing that something was about to happen and that she wouldn't like it.

"...On Earth."

Kara watched as the protective shield of the ship shot into the ground, creating a massive blast of wind that hit both her and Zod without harming either of them. When the dust settled enough for her to see Zod, Kara looked around and saw the devastation caused by the beam.

"If you recreate Krypton on Earth, what happens to the people?" Kara wasn't entirely sure what that kind of device would do. And she was wondering if Zod had even considered what would happen.

Zod had no remorse in his voice as he unveiled his plan. "The foundation must be built upon something."

Kara then watched as the dust began to settle enough for her to see the ground. When she got a clear sighting of the floor, she gasped in shock and horror at the sight of the dead bodies emerging from the rubble. She looked behind her and noticed the entire city of New York was now covered in blood and rubble.

"No..." Kara whimpered in fear as she turned to face Zod, ready to stop him. "No! I can't let you do this! I can't be a part of something like this!"

Zod didn't show any fear as when Kara tried to attack him, the rubble of Earth was beginning to drag her down. "Then what can you be a part of?"

Kara tried to escape the clutches of the earth, but she was only pulled down faster. She knew she couldn't let this happen; she needed to stop it. She needed to save the place she had begun to call home.

"Zod!"

"Where is the Codex?" Zod asks.

Kara still hadn't spoken because she knew there was no way she would be able to clear up where it was. She wasn't even entirely sure what had happened at the Baxter Building. But she didn't even have time to talk as she was dragged down into the hologram.

------------------------

Back on Earth, Rogue flew Peter to the X-Mansion where they met up with everyone. Peter was explaining what he was planning to do and asking them for help.

Carol asked, "You're planning to go into space?"

Sophia said, "To save Kara from the alien General."

"How do you expect that to end?" Megan asks. "Because in my mind, it ends with you getting your face lasered off."

Kurt wondered, "Do all Kryptonians have powers or is it just Kara?"

"Kara got her powers from the sun, so it's not likely they can show up and gain powers. It took Kara a day or two to even gain powers, and still, she couldn't control them." Peter remembered the time it took for Kara to understand her powers.

"Even then, she never fully embraced them until coming here," Rogue added.

"Okay, let's get to problem one. How do you plan to get up there?" Emma asks Peter.

Don't you guys have some sort of spaceship?" Peter asks them. "Kara talked about how she saw you guys have a ship."

Everyone looked over toward Rogue, assuming she was the one who had told them. "What?" Rogue defended herself. "I showed it to her while showing her where to get her costume. How was I supposed to know she was going to have her hologram mother make her one?"

"Okay, yes, we have a ship, and yes, it is compatible with space travel, but it wasn't designed for it," Emma informed them. "It could either get us up there safely, or we could all die."

"Well, if what Kara said about Zod is true, we all might die anyhow," Peter stated to them in worry. "Kara sacrificed herself because she thought it would be better for us and herself. But right now, we need to save her before Zod strikes."

"What makes you think he'll go back on his word?" Sophia wonders.

That earned her a look of annoyance and confusion among the group. Some were confused and weren't sure if she was joking or not, since she is known to joke and kid around. The annoyance came from those who knew her long enough to know she did believe Zod would leave and not go back on his word.

Peter, however, wasn't one of those people. "Is she...?"

Emma nodded. "She's very serious," she said. She sighed and rubbed her head. Then she looked at Rogue. "You can fly the Blackbird, right?"

"I've been around the horse and only got jitterbug a few times," Rogue said with a shrug. It seemed her metaphor went over everyone's head, as they all wore dumbfounded expressions. "Yes."

"Then get ready to put those lessons to use," Emma said and looked at her friend. Soph, I know you wanna help, but I doubt your animals are gonna be helpful."

"No, no, I'm good. I'll cover for you here...," Sophia promised and looked to Peter, blushing a little. "Stay safe. I hope you get her back."

Peter was a little confused about what to say or do and blushed a little. "Uh, yeah, thanks."

With that awkward moment out of the way, the group made their way to the Blackbird. A few of them took a quick moment to change; if they were going to take on an army, they didn't think it would be smart to do so in their casual clothing.

Rogue wears a dark, navy blue bodysuit. Gold plates with the "X" logo are on both shoulders, while a green platelet goes around her bust area. A gold utility belt, also marked with the "X" logo, goes around her waist, and small platelets protect her knees. She wears knee-high boots as footwear, and thick, brown gloves on both hands.

Megan shapeshifts her clothes so she now dons a long-sleeved black suit with a similar red X on it, black shoes, and her blue cape; the overall style is similar to the clothing worn by the Martian Manhunter.

Emma's costume consisted of an X-Men tank top that stopped just above her belly button. She wore long gloves that covered her entire arms, a cape that would cover her arms when it was pulled over them, white pants held up by a belt, and white heels for shoes. To complete the look, she wore a white collar around her neck.

Carol has made some changes to her uniform. It now consists of a black mask over her eyes, a scarf, long black gloves covering her arms, long black boots that reach her shapely calves, and a skin-tight suit that covers most of her torso.

Kori did not change her outfit. It still remained the same design as the bathing suit that she wore. However, it was changed from a bathing suit into actual clothing. Carol helped her out and fixed it up while she was also altering her own suit.

Vivian is an android, so she gave herself an outfit similar to Kara's. She created a green jumpsuit, with a large yellow cape as her main version of her suit, with three diamonds in place of the "S" symbol. She also wears a large yellow belt and gloves.

Kurt's version of the uniform was a black chest, body, and knees with red sleeves and legs. His X-Men suit featured an X in the center, white gloves, and boots.

They then made their way onto the Blackbird and strapped in. Using Emma's powers, she cleared off the basketball court so that they could raise the ship into the air and fly off before anyone knew what had happened.

------------------------

The Blackbird made it up and Rogue was quick to activate the cloaking mechanism to not get spotted. The last thing they wanted to be was shot down before they had a chance to fight. They stayed close to the Earth's atmosphere for a moment as Rogue steadied the ship.

Kurt says, "Going to space isn't as much fun as I thought it would be." He mentions how shaky the ride is.

Rogue said to her brother, "I'm working on it." She added, "I don't even have my driver's permit, and y'all expect this ride to be as smooth as a knife through butter."

"Huh?" Peter understood the metaphor, just not why she would use it in this context.

"When she gets nervous, she uses more metaphors," Emma explains to him.

When they got the Blackbird close enough, Rogue managed to dock it in what they assumed was a hanger. There was nobody around, and it seems that not even they had cloaking capabilities. When they landed on the ship, there was nobody around, and they had the time to devise a plan.

"Alright, do we know where they could be keeping Kara?" Vivian asks them.

Emma was using her powers to try and make a connection with Kara. Since she was familiar with her mind, all she needed to do was search the area for her. She had done it a few dozen times in the past, but it was for more... personal occasions, never for something like this before. It didn't take long until she came into contact with Kara's mind, but she was a little confused to learn she was unconscious, but her mind is still active.

"Hang on, I'm gonna have them adjust the ship's atmosphere to be similar to Earth," Emma said, figuring that would be best for when they have to leave the ship. Once that part was done, she went back to searching for Kara. It didn't take long for her to determine which one was her, seeing as she was being tortured. "I found her," She reported to them, pointing in a direction. "But...she seems to be...I-I don't...oh, god. They're...they're torturing her for information."

That was all Peter needed to hear before he stood up from his chair and ran for the door. "You have her location?"

"Yeah, but we still don't have a plan." Carol reminded him.

"Well, I don't really need one," Peter stated as he opened the ship, running in the direction Emma had pointed. "I'm just going to crawl around and hope for the best."

Kurt teleported beside Peter. "That's not a plan," he said. "That's barely a footnote."

Peter walked up to the doors that led into the hallway. "I'm not gonna let them continue to hurt Kara. I'm..." His head suddenly started to alert him of something. When he looked over towards the hallway, he noticed there were a dozen other Kryptonian soldiers without Zod. "Oops."

"Halt!" They demanded as they raised their blasters.

Before they could open fire, Kurt reacted and grabbed Peter, then teleported them to the side of the door. They both began to panic, as Kurt could only teleport them around the room; he wasn't familiar enough with the environment. Meanwhile, when the soldier kept shooting, Carol came and slammed him into the ground with all of her might and strength.

"Well, there goes the element of surprise," said Carol to the boys.

"Let's just be glad it was only one of them," Emma said as she approached. Then she felt the presence of other people coming and realized her mistake. "And I spoke too soon."

Several more Kryptonians emerged from the shadows of the hallways and raised their weapons. They all raised their weapons and opened fire on the kids, causing everyone to jump and attempt to dodge the attacks.

"Okay, the element of surprise is gone; what do you think about a direct approach?" Vivian asked the group.

"It's the only thing we've got left." Carol sighed.

"Yes! Let us do the team thing for which the direction is up!" Kori exclaimed as she got ready to blast.

"Okay, when this is done, we've got to fix that broken English of hers," Rogue says to the team. "Who taught her English anyway?"

Peter confessed, "Me."

Rogue did a double take to make sure she heard him correctly. "Okay... I don't know what to even say to that."

"Alright, who goes first?" Megan asks them.

"Ugh, I'll do it." Vivian sighed as she knew she was the most obvious. "I'll speed in and create an opening for you guys to come in."

"Alright," Megan said as she began to phase through the wall. "I'll do the same from the other side."

Vivian then flew right through the hall and smacked into several of the soldiers, causing them to lose their balance. When one regained his balance and raised his weapon, Megan came through the wall and grabbed onto the soldier, smashing him into the wall.

While they were busy aiming their weapons toward Vivian, everyone else had a chance to come and take their shot at the soldiers. Peter ran into the room as he leaped onto the wall as started to crawl around. Carol took an opportunity to fly in and quickly send off a blast of her energy to attack. Rogue flew her way around where she then grabbed one by the neck and smashed him into the ground. Kori then took a giant blast of her energy and sent it flying into one of the Kryptonians at the end of the hall.

Kurt teleported his way inside and he then started to appear and disappear. He went in between two soldiers as they both aimed their weapons at him. But the moment that they fired, Kurt teleported away and allowed the Kryptonains to kill themselves. One had his aim on Kurt from behind, tracking his movements, but Peter dropped down and tackled him. He wasn't strong enough to one-punch them, but he was strong enough to attack and punch the man over and over. Peter was however grabbed by the throat and thrown into the wall.

Emma was using her powers to predict their attacks and alert whoever she saw was going to get hurt, but it was trickier with Peter. When she saw he was going to be shot, she immediately reacted and ran over toward Peter to shield him. She wasn't going to be strong enough to stop him from shooting, but she could at least do something noble and save someone stronger. Except that when the gun fired, Emma raised her hands to shield herself and Peter from the blast, and that's when something began to change in her. When she shielded Peter, her hand became hard. Her entire body was morphing without her even realizing it as a means of protection. Her body began to morph into what looked almost like diamonds.

What came as an even bigger surprise to just about everyone, the blast that he fired deflected off of him and back at the soldier. Emma was shocked when she looked down at her skin and realized that her entire body hasn't been coated with, it but has actually transformed into diamond-like material.

"How...how is this possible?" Emma asks as she looked over herself.

Peter was just as shocked and amazed. "You...wow." He didn't know what to really say. Emma even blushed a little when she noticed Peter looking over her form like this. Seems he preferred her like a diamond to a girl. Yet again, she was kind of a jerk to him. "That's pretty cool."

"Hey!" Carol cried as she flew at full speed, tackling another Kryptonian. "You two keep going, well hold them off!"

"Send us a message in our heads and we'll shake this place faster than a Junebug in July!" Rogue called as she grabbed one of the Kryptonains and threw them into one another. "Go!"

Emma and Peter nodded as they ran off down the hallways to try and save Kara. While they were running, they noticed a window where they saw two ships separating from the one they were on. They started to head towards the two ends of the earth, giving them both a sense of dread, knowing that Zod was not done with Earth just yet.

Emma grabbed Peter and dragged him along the hallways as they continued to search. Emma was also keeping herself open to locating any other Kryptonians that might be blocking their path. Peter was walking beside her when he felt something coming, but couldn't quite pinpoint exactly where it was. Luckily for him, he had a telepath who was better at figuring that out for him.

"Watch out!" Emma cried as she pushed Peter against the wall, her diamond skin absorbing the blaster fire from the gun. Peter and Emma were a little too close; the narrow hallway left them no breathing room. "Sorry," Emma said.

"No, you're alright," Peter assured her.

Emma nodded and gave a small smile. "His gun is reloading!"

Peter understood what she meant as he then pushed Emma out of the way before leaping onto the ceiling, sticking to it with his powers. Then, building up the momentum, he let the ceiling go and tackled the Kryptonian before he knew what hit him. Emma then walked out of the corner and began wandering down the hallways, playing her fingers through her hair like an antenna. Closing her eyes, she concentrated on where she was.

"She's close," Emma reported.

Peter let her take the lead and walked behind her. Not really using her as a human shield, but she was literally made of diamonds. She could take a hit or two, and he was not as skilled with his powers as she currently was. She might not be physically powerful, but she was easily one of the most powerful people with her mental abilities.

"This door," Emma reported, gesturing to it. She then watched Peter as he built up strength and swung his fist. Then she flinched when she saw him cry and whimper as he seemed to have injured his hand in that attack. "Sorry. I was gonna warn you."

"No, my fault. I rushed into it." Peter said as he held his hand. "Now what?"

"You took care of the next part for us," Emma assured him.

The door then opened as one Kryptonian came out with a gun to try and shoot the intruder. Luckily, Emma was using her powers to make herself invisible to the man and used her foot to kick the gun out of his hand. That gave Peter an opening as he tackled the Kryptonian and punched him in the face.

When he stood up, he saw Kara whimpering and in pain; he noticed a drill of sorts was next to her on a table. Figuring that was one of the torture techniques, he walked over to Kara and noticed she was asleep. Likely passed out from the pain, since she hadn't felt it in so long.

"Kara?" Peter tried to wake her up. "Kara, it's me."

Kara whimpered as she began to wake up. "Peter?"

"Yeah, hey, we're gonna get you out of here," Peter promised as he tried to help her. "Hang on."

Kara moaned as Peter began to pick her up with his enhanced strength, and it didn't seem like she was as heavy as she once was to him. He quickly walked over to the door and let Emma take the lead while he carried Kara.

"What is wrong with her? She seems weak." Emma comments as she keeps going around. "I thought she was stronger than that."

"She needs the sun," Peter explains to her.

Emma walked them around in an attempt to get back to the ship, but several turrets emerged and opened fire. Emma flinched, despite being strong enough to take the shots; she wasn't exactly eager to be shot at.

"Okay, were not getting out this way," Emma told Peter. "We need a new way out."

"There any escape pods?" Peter wonders. "Spaceships like this, they've got to have escape pods."

Emma rolled her eyes at how he expected everything to be like a sci-fi movie. She decided to do a quick scan of everyone's minds and got the layout of the ship.

"Oh, wow! They actually do!" Emma was a little surprised. "This way!"

Peter followed her and telepathically spoke to the others. "Guys, we're gonna find another way out. Get to the Blackbird and let's get the hell out of here."

"We're on it." Rogue promises.

Emma led them through the ship and toward the escape pods, enabling them to escape. When a few guards attempted to stop them, Emma demonstrated her new technique of diamond-hard skin. Peter wished he could have helped her, but carrying Kara was a two-handed job, even with his enhanced strength.

Emma kicked the gun out of his hands and threw the Kryptonian against the wall. "What's the passcode for the pods?"

"I'll never talk!" The Kryptonian promised him.

Emma smiled, not wanting to force him into talking, only wanting to get him thinking about it. "That's okay, I got what I wanted." She then punched him in the face, breaking his mask in the process. "Okay, let's do this."

Emma began activating the escape pods and tried to keep Peter and Kara safe until they could escape. When she had finished, she activated a pod for herself and then another for Peter and Kara. As she approached the pod, Peter placed Kara down in the chair to strap her into her own pod. Back with the others, they managed to get back into the Blackbird and get out before their ship could be shot down.

Kara groaned as she started to wake up and realized she was stuck in a chair. Wondering what was going on, she looked around and noticed Emma and Peter.

"Peter?" Kara figured she was hearing things before. "You're here?"

Before Peter could respond, he had to duck and avoid the blaster fire from the other Kryptonians. Emma then activated their pods and they were sent shooting towards Earth. Peter's pod, however, began to take too much damage and started to falter on the way down. Kara was beginning to grow stronger as her front window was now facing the sun. As she was growing stronger and her powers were coming back, she noticed the damage to Peter's pod was causing it to fall behind and the thrusters weren't slowing him down.

Kara took in as much sunlight as she could, knowing she had to act quickly to save Peter. Opening the door to her pod, she held on tightly and flew as fast as she could toward him. Meanwhile, Emma watched the entire scene unfold, noticing his malfunctioning thrusters.

Emma cried with her mind, "Kara, get back in your pod!"

"Peter's pod is faulty; he's not going to make it in his pod!" Kara cried as she flew over and grabbed Peter's pod, ripping the door off.

She knew she needed to hurry or Peter was going to die from the cold. She grabbed Peter's vest and ripped him free before moving him over to her pod. Peter was confused as to what she was planning, knowing his pod was faulty. But now Kara was without a pod.

Kara gave Peter a sad smile, knowing she was doing what was best for him. He had done all he could to save her; now it was her turn to return the favor and save him. She closed the door and the pressure of the pod returned to normal, allowing him to breathe again. However, that wasn't the end of the moment as Peter's pod exploded, sending Peter and Kara flying in opposite directions.

Peter's pod was beginning to fix itself so when it landed, he would land safely. He tried to figure out what had happened to Kara, but all he could see was a blazing ball of fire heading down towards the Earth.

Peter cried out, "Kara!" as he pushed against the window.

Kara fell toward Earth as everyone in New York watched her plummet toward the Baxter Building. She was knocked unconscious due to the explosion and wasn't able to fix her trajectory she was falling in.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a breach formed in the street, and a flash of red and yellow lightning raced out of the portal as people jumped out of the way. Kara was the only one who didn't notice it; she was currently falling with no energy, even with the help of the sun.

As a figure came into view from the lightning, he ran straight up a building, catching Kara before she could hit the ground. However, it seemed this blur of speed couldn't stop; he continued running and eventually ran all the way out of the city, ending up stopping near a highway.

Kara began to feel the full effects of the sun as her body began to heal itself from the blast and she could feel herself getting better, to the point where she could stand on her own. She didn't even seem to notice that her chest was on fire due to the speed she was going on the way down, the smoke and debris from the pod, and the speed she got on the way out on the highway.

The stranger wore a full-body suit that was all red, with two small yellow lightning bolts across the waist and wrists. The logo of a yellow lightning bolt surrounded by a white circle was also present on his chest. Moreover, he was wearing some sort of metal circle around his chest plate, which seemed like an odd addition.

"You're on fire!"

The man reached out, seemingly to put it out, but dropped his hand when he realized where it was and flinched away a little. Kara looked down at her flaming chest in surprise and began to calmly pat it out with her bare hands.

"You don't... seem that bothered by the fact that you're on fire..." the stranger finished, giving her a weird look.

"I didn't need you to save me," Kara said, giving him an annoyed look.

She could have survived that fall if the sun had healed her either before or after she fell. Moreover, she needed to fly back and ensure everyone else was okay; they needed to regroup quickly so that they could prepare for a fight against Zod to save Earth.

The stranger wheezed out a laugh at her comment. "Uh, kid, you just fell from the sky, so if I hadn't been there... you would have gone splat."

"I have to... Zod... I need to get back to the city," Kara said, and as the stranger watched in complete astonishment, she turned and took off into the sky.

"That's new," the stranger said, watching Kara as she flew off into the air. He began making his way back to the city. "I thought I was the impossible," he whispered.

That was when the stranger then sped off down the hill as Kara flew towards New York. But she was surprised when she noticed that the stranger was able to catch up with her. Wondering how this was possible, she flew down and landed on the ground as he sped up to her.

He asked her, "How did you do that?"

"I'm..." Kara sighed and knew she didn't exactly have a better name. "I'm Supergirl."

"You're who now?" The stranger asked, never having heard such a name before.

"Yeah, ridiculous name, but it fits I guess." The realization dawned on Kara of what had happened. "I'm sorry, I was just a little...disoriented from the torture I went through and the fall," she said, realizing how much everything she had witnessed affected her. "How did you save me?"

"Well, I saw you fall from the sky, so I caught you and ran you out here," he said as he realized how far they had come. He looked around and wondered how far they were from New York; a sign said they were 35 miles away. "I didn't mean to do it, but I've been working on my speed, and guess I got faster than we had expected."

"Okay, but who are you?" Kara asked him.

He says to her, "I'm the Flash." As if she didn't already know who he was.

"You're whom now?" Kara wondered, using the same phrase he had.

The stranger said in shock, "You don't know who I am?"

She asked him, "Should I?"

"What about the Green Arrow?" the stranger asked her. She gave him the same answer. "Bombshell? Firestorm? White Tiger? Ant-Man? Iceman? Zoom?"

Kara apologized, shrugging her shoulders. "Sorry."

"Not as sorry as I am," the stranger said before removing his cowl. "Hi, I'm Barry Allen, I'm the fastest man alive. Also, I think I'm on the wrong Earth. And I'm going to need your help."
