Hospitality

Diddy's POV:

Ungh... What happened... I don't remember anything... I look over to my right and see Rosalina unconscious in a medical bed with all of this weird machinery and a mask over her mouth and nose. I soon realize that I'm the same, then it all came back to me: Math class, the fire, then the roof crushing us, and then, the faint. I shivered in remembrance, thinking of what would've happened if the others didn't save me.

Speaking of, where are they, and where am I?

As if on cue, the some of the other students, Bowser, Luigi, Mario, Yoshi, DK, and 2 doctors enter the room. The shorter doctor seems relieved that I'm awake, but then looks worriedly at Rosalina, who's still out cold. The taller doctor talks with the other for a second, who tells something to the rest of us.

"Rosalina is fine," Everyone breathes a sigh of relief. "... but she might have to stay for longer until she heals." Oh... At least she'll be okay... Will she? Bowser asks just that. "Will she be alright?" "Yes, she just needs an extended visit, that's all" Answers the shorter doctor. "Yes, Diddy will stay here for a few days, but if Rosalina doesn't wake up soon, she might have to stay for a week, maybe more."

Then, the taller one cuts in. "Do any of you want to stay long-" "Yes!" They all cut him off. "Then just go to the desk and ask for extended visitor cards." He finishes, unfazed. They all leave for a moment, and the taller doctor, Dr. Stools from his name tag, leaves.

The other one, Dr. Mandosa, (I can tell from her name tag too) stays with me. She starts to talk to me: "You were lucky to have not suffered any severe damage. You're lucky you have such good, smart friends. Your teacher, Mr. Chuck, told me everything that happened. Thanks to them, you two will be back to normal in no time!" I look at all the equipment, and look back at her skeptically, making her chuckle. "Don't worry, you're fine. You should see how patients with more serious injuries look like. It's like they are portable mini labs!" This makes me chuckle too.

Then, the others, minus Dr. Stools, come back into the room, red visitor cards replacing their blue ones. Yoshi asks, "Where's Mr. Stools?" "He's with other patients now." "Oh. Ok!" After that, it was pretty normal. Well, for a hospital, at least. Occasionally, Dr. Stools would check in on us, talking to Dr. Mandosa about things I couldn't hear, and they'd adjust things and press buttons that I have no idea what they did.

Shortly after, Dr. Stools says it's past visiting hours, and that it's time to go. Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi, and DK leave, but not before looking at all of us worriedly. After they left, the doctors left too, leaving us in our room. I don't have anything to do here, so I might as well go to sleep...

"*Cough cough*"

Rosalina's coughs interrupt my attempt to sleep, so I look over and see her sitting up in her bed, relieving almost all of my worries about her. She isn't dead! That's good! I hope that means we'll stay for the same amount of time...

Rosalina's POV:

I wake up in a coughing fit, sitting up. I look around, realizing I'm not at school anymore. I don't remember anything. Then, I see Diddy to my left, so I ask him.

Rosalina: Hey Diddy, where are we?

Diddy: At the hospital! Don't you remember what happened?

Rosalina: What?

Diddy: The fire at the school!

Rosalina: The fire..?

Then I slowly start to remember it all, and how the others saved us. If it wasn't for Bowser, we would be goners! Thank goodness he saved us, or else we would of... *Shudders*

Then, a doctor, Dr. Mandosa, comes into our room, looking happily at me. A taller doctor,  Dr. Stools, comes in too, shortly after. They talk for a bit, too quietly for me to hear, because my ears are ringing. Then, Dr. Mandosa walks over to me and tells me something. "You and Diddy will have to stay here for only three to four days!" When I hear this, I breathe a sigh of relief. Then, she adds something else.

"If you didn't wake up as soon as you did, you might've had to stay for more than a week! Luckily, you don't." I smile at her, and she smiles back. Then I ask her a question, looking over at Dr. Stools', with a straight face. "Is Dr. Stools always stone cold like this?" She chuckles. "Yeah, I've never seen his face change emotion before, not lying!"

Huh, that's kinda... I dunno, creepy? Who never changes expressions, or feels emotion? Then, he pulls me out of my thoughts. "Well, we have to go. Try to get some rest, you two." Gosh, why does he have to cut everything off so short? Oh well... They leave, and Dr. Mandosa leaves giving us a small wave, but Dr. Stools doesn't even look back or say bye, he just leaves. Diddy and I are lying in the silent room, when he starts to talk.

Diddy: You're right, Rosalina.

Rosalina: About what?

Diddy: About Dr. Stools being stone cold.

Rosalina: Yeah... Kind of creepy, right? Showing no emotion and all... Anyways, we should go to sleep.

Diddy: Yeah. G'night, Rosalina.

Rosalina: Good night, Diddy.

I soon hear his light snore, but. I don't fall asleep as fast as he does. I'm thinking about how much class we'll miss, and how damaged our college is. My head starts to spin and hurt from all of my thinking, so I lie down and close my eyes.

I soon fell into a troubled sleep, worried about what would happen next.

Little did I know, this incident would get me a new friend when I got back...
