Chapter 9: Holding a Grudge

It was a typical day in Super Smash Town, a lot of the members were in the main hall, having some lunch. However, things changed quite a bit these past few days. Firstly, there was a new addition to the roster in the form of Sephiroth, the one-winged angel. Secondly, Cloud was not particularly happy that he was there. Because of their past throughout the years, he had been adventuring, Cloud still held that grudge against the man. Currently, he just kept giving a dirty look at Sephiroth while poking his fork at his lunch. Erdrick noticed this behaviour and decided to question him.

"Cloud, why do you keep looking at Sephiroth like that?" He asked.

"We've fought through many occasions, and he has brought hell on me all those times" Cloud answered, "Even to this day, I still don't trust that guy"

"You shouldn't really dwell on the past, I mean, there are others who are fine with their enemies being around" Erdrick exclaimed, "Mario and Bowser are on good terms, King K. Rool hangs out with Donkey Kong, Samus hasn't killed Ridley, and Ganondorf is in the same area as three separate Links"

"Still, the fact doesn't change, I still cannot trust that guy" Cloud replied.

"There is no convincing you otherwise" Erdrick sighed, "I guess someone else has to deal with it"

With Sephiroth

From the corner of his eye, Sephiroth could easily tell the Cloud was giving him dirty looks. He sighed at this interaction; how could a man be holding a grudge for that long? Ganon noticed this and decided to ask about it.

"What's with Cloud being all angry at you?" He asked.

"We've had history" Sephiroth answered, "I destroyed his hometown, beaten him up multiple times, killed one of his friends, and tried to destroy the world"

"Huh, I've done that many times, but none of the Links really held a grudge for that long" Ganon replied, "But they do make sure I don't do anything sketchy"

"I don't even know why he should be this tense, I can't even do a lot of those stuff because Jaden does not want things like that to happen" Sephiroth added.

"You'll get used to it" Ganon told him, "He should hopefully get over it soon"

"I hope you're right" Sephiroth sighed.

Over the next few weeks

Let's say that Ganon was in fact, wrong, Cloud kept holding that grudge with an iron grip and would still give Sephiroth that dirty look, even in the oddest places possible. One day, Sephiroth was outside on his front yard, tending to his flower garden, just watering the plants. He looked up to find Cloud walking past with that same look on his face. Shaking his head, he just went back to tending the daisies. A few days later, Sephiroth went to the supermarket to do some grocery shopping. With a basket in hand, he was looking at a bunch of bananas. And low and behold, he saw Cloud pushing a trolley past him, giving that same dirty look again.

"Will he ever quit doing that?" Sephiroth questioned.

"Probably not" Link replied, looking at an apple, "You should probably do something to get on his good side"

"I guess" Sephiroth agreed.

Later on in the month, Sephiroth was outside having a little picnic by himself. He was really enjoying the nice weather, the crisp breeze, and the sandwich he was eating. However, the mood was kind of ruined by Cloud walking past with the same dirty look on his face. Sephiroth decided to think about a way to get this feud past them. He just wanted to enjoy his time in town. Luckily, he came up with a great idea.

3 days later, at Cloud's home

"Cloud, can you please stop this whole feud?" Tifa requested, embracing her boyfriend from behind.

"I just can't help it, he's done so much to us, it's hard to stop" Cloud exclaimed, "I'm still not over Aerith's death"

"Look honey, even I'm not fully over that, but we can't always dwell in the past" Tifa told the blonde swordsman, "Sometimes, we have to move on"

"Yeah, you're right" Cloud agreed.

"So can you please stop with the dirty looks?" Tifa requested, "For me"

"Alright, I will" Cloud smiled, leaning in to kiss her. However, their kiss was cut short due to someone knocking at their door. Confused because they weren't expecting visitors, Cloud went over to answer the door. He opened it to find Sephiroth standing there with a large white box in hand.

"Hello Cloud" He greeted.

"What are you doing here?" Cloud questioned.

"I came to give you a gift, that way, we won't have to keep on with this feud" Sephiroth explained, "And you shouldn't have to worry about any funny business, Jaden watches me like a hawk"

"I see" Cloud replied, taking the box with a bit of hesitation.

"I do hope you enjoy the gift and have a wonderful day" Sephiroth exclaimed, "I'll be off now, goodbye"

As Sephiroth left, Cloud locked the door and placed the box onto the kitchen counter. Having heard the conversation, Tifa was very interested in the gift that Sephiroth gave them. Opening the box, Cloud came across a cake frost with vanilla frosting and decorated pleasantly well. On the top, Sephiroth wrote "I do hope we can be friendly with each other".

"Wow, I didn't think Sephiroth would be a keen baker" Tifa commented.

"Yeah, let's see what kind of cake it is" Cloud replied.

Cutting the cake, it was shown to have three layers of chocolate sponge. After getting two serving portions, the two Nibelheim natives took a bite and savoured the taste. It was clear that Sephiroth took a lot of care in making this cake. Cloud smiled and thought, 'Maybe Sephiroth and I could be friends.' The two proceeded to finish their cake slices before storing the rest of it in the fridge.
