Chapter 2: Divine Intervention

When the light cleared, the group realized they were in a new location.
"Nobody panic, but I think we're getting a serious case of deja vu," Fox spoke up.
"I'm not about to doubt it," Shadow replied.
"Don't be alarmed. I figured it I could give some divine intervention," the same voice said again. Everyone turned to where the voice had come from, finding a familiar face. Faces, actually.
"Palutena? Pit?"Luigi asked. It had either been so long since he'd last seen the goddess and the angel, or the whole Waluigi incident had made him forget.
"It's good to see you again, Luigi, Zelda, Shadow, Fox, Falcon," Palutena said. Shadow's expression had gone cold.
"You took your time showing up," Shadow growled. Warning alarms went off in Luigi's head. He hadn't heard Shadow sound like he did in a while.
"Hey! Lady Palutena can't always be there whenever you're in trouble! Her job is tough!" Pit blurted.
"I'm sorry about not appearing sooner. I honestly didn't see how bad the situation was getting," Palutena admitted.
"We've got this taken care of. You're not needed here," Shadow scoffed, turning around and looking away.
"Hey! What's your deal pal?" Pit walked over to Shadow. As he tried to turn him around, Shadow jumped up and kicked Pit in the face! Pit crumpled to the floor.
"Shadow!" Luigi yelled. He also went to Shadow, who tried to also kick him. Luckily, Luigi rolled out of the way.
"What's your deal? She's trying to help us!" Luigi reasoned, hoping to sway the hedgehog.
"You of all people should be against her helping us! Had she showed up sooner, Everyone might still be alive. That includes Mario!" Shadow said. Luigi felt his mind at war. One the one hand, Shadow was right. Had Palutena showed up, everyone, including Mario, might still be alive. But he had to think on the other hand.
"You're probably right, but attacking Palutena or Pit won't bring anyone back!" Luigi tried to reason. Shadow looked. He sighed, then glared at Palutena.
"Make it quick."
"Thank you. Anyways, after Waluigi's defeat to Luigi, he used the Power Glove. More specifically, he used the Soul Stone to disintegrate Mario, Sonic, and all of your other allies," Palutena explained.
"Yeah. Luigi and I saw the Snap," Shadow replied, shaking his head.
"There's more. After he left, Waluigi somehow revived everyone as Revenants," Palutena continued.
"Revenants?" Luigi asked.
"Undead warriors. Waluigi of course has them believing that it was all your fault that they are the way they are. That's why Mario, Sonic, and Ike attacked and blamed all of you," Palutena finished. Luigi looked down at his fallen brother. It was hard to see him like this. He saw Shadow looking at Sonic. He was having a hard time trying to read his expression. He then saw Lucina, with tears starting to fall.
"Well, what do we do? We can't leave them like this," Falcon asked.
"That's what I came here for. I've made this," Palutena answered. Pit handed her a small hand device. It had an odd design; a dragon mouth, followed by a diagonally shaped handle, which was only a little bigger than the dragon mouth.
"What is it?" Luigi asked, bewildered.
"Watch this," Palutena replied with a smile. She held the small device toward the revenants, before pressing a small trigger under the dragon's mouth. What happened next was incredible. Luigi looked at Mario. He saw that whatever power had turned Mario into a revenant was being undone. The same thing happened to Sonic and Ike. After about 10 seconds, the three were back to normal! Luigi's mouth dropped.
"How'd you do that?" Simon asked, dumbfounded.
"This device combines whatever power Waluigi used to turn them to revenants with some of my own. The combination turns them back to normal," Palutena replied.
"And you're giving it to us?" Shadow asked. Palutena nodded, handing the device to him.
"Also, Luigi, you still have that device I gave you from your first adventure, correct?"
"Oh yeah," Luigi nodded, pulling the device out of one of his overall pockets. Palutena took the device and after a few seconds, handed it back.
"There. I ironed out some of the kinks out of it. I also added some new worlds to it. Worlds you haven't visited will have a question mark," Palutena said.
"Thank you, Lady Palutena," Luigi said, bowing.
"No problem. I'll bring you back if anything else comes up. Farewell," Palutena replied. Another flash, similar to when they arrived. After a few seconds, it faded. Luigi looked around. They were back in the ruined city.
"Was... that a dream?" Luigi asked, looking at everyone else, who were equally bewildered.
"If it was, then that was the realest dream I've ever had," Ken replied, shaking his head. Luigi looked back quickly. It wasn't a dream, he realized. Mario, Sonic, and Ike were on the ground still, but they were no longer revenants. He felt a huge wave of relief flood over him. Mario was okay. Just then, Ike began to groan.
"Ike? IKE!" Lucina cried, rushing over to Ike's side. Ike slowly rose, opening his eyes.
"Ike! Are you okay?" Lucina asked. She wasn't sure how to feel right now. She was glad, but uncertain. What if Ike was still somehow a revenant?
"L-Lucina?" Ike asked, in a disoriented state.
"You're okay...," Lucina started. Tears of joy began falling down. Ike smiled, still somewhat dazed.
"I am, knowing you're here," Ike said. Lucina quickly wrapped her arms around Ike, wrapping him in as tight of a hug that she could squeeze. After about a minute, Ike rose to his feet.
"It feels good to be able to be... ack!" Ike stopped, clutching his ribs.
"You're not at full strength yet. We've got to get you somewhere you can rest," Lucina said. Ike shook his head.
"I'm sorry. But the things he made me do... the ones I was forced to hurt... I just... I can't sit back while Waluigi does what he wants, and gets away with it!"
"I'm with Ike on this one," Mario stepped forward.
"Mario...," Luigi whispered. He knew that this was the Mario he knew since they were little.
"We made a goal: stop Waluigi from getting the Power Stones. That failed. So now our mission is to stop him, and destroy the Power Glove if at all possible," Mario continued.
"Yeah, you thought all the stuff Waluigi has done was bad? You weren't the ones doing it," Sonic said stepping up. Luigi thought of what he said earlier. I've never been in that position. And I never will be... he quickly shunned those thoughts. He couldn't imagine being Waluigi's puppet, nor did he want to.
"We need to get going. We should try and go back to Altea... if there's anything left of it..."
"I don't think Waluigi has sent anybody else there... yet," Sonic said.
"Then that's where we'll go. We don't know how much time we have before Waluigi realizes we're not revenants anymore," Mario said.
"Let's get back to the ship. Hopefully, you guys didn't damage it to bad," Falcon said. Luckily, the ship wasn't in too bad shape.
"It looks like it'll need repairs. We should be good for a trip to Altea."
"Let's-a-go!" Mario said. Luigi quickly stopped him before before they got on. He smiled.
"Welcome back, Mario."
"Good to be back, Luigi."
As they all got on and took off, Luigi set the device to Altea. As they flew, Lucina took Ike in one of the back areas of the ship. She pulled out Ragnell, Ike's sword.
"You kept it?"
"Of course. It's the one thing that helped me remember you."
"I should've known Waluigi would give me some cheap sword. There's nothing that beats the real thing."
"I'm glad to see you back."
"I'm glad to be," Ike said, as Lucina wrapped him up in a hug.
"I won't lose you again...," Lucina whispered.
"I won't get lost again," Ike responded. The two walked back into the main area. Everyone prepared for what would no doubt feel like a long ride to Altea.
