Chapter 10: Leaving the House
"I see that what I predicted has indeed come. You warned the people, right?"
"Of course. Thank you, Sothis. There were no casualties, just injuries."
"I just gave you the warning. You are the one who wields the Sword of the Creator. You held him off."
"He still caused much damage. Sothis, who is this person? Why did he attack the Black Eagles? Has he attacked the other houses?"
"I cannot answer any of those questions," Sothis replied. The green haired goddess looked down at the young woman standing before her. The young girl's name was Byleth. She had been guided by Sothis, and was a teacher at the Black Eagles house.
"But luckily, I can," suddenly, another green haired woman appeared. She appeared much older than Sothis and Byleth.
"What? Who are you?" Sothis asked.
"I am Palutena, Goddess of Light. And if my research if this world is correct, you are Sothis?" Palutena asked. Sothis nodded.
"Wait, Goddess... of Light? How come no one has heard of you? I certainly haven't," Byleth blurted.
"Rightly so. You don't know me because... as strange as this may sound... I am not from this world," Palutena explained.
"WHAT?!?!?!?! How does that make any sense?" Sothis asked in utter disbelief.
"It's something I can't explain. I can't explain what the man in purple is up to, either..."
"Wait, do you know the man in purple? Or was it your eavesdropping?" Byleth asked. She cringed. If Palutena was a goddess, as she claimed, she wasn't being respectful.
"I know him. I, unfortunately, can't tell you what he is up to."
"Why? Can't we stop him? Before he attacks the other houses too?"
"Unfortunately, despite your weapon, you can't defeat him. Not by yourself, at least."
"What do you mean?" Sothis asked. Meanwhile, Byleth felt crushed by Palutena's words. She wouldn't be able to defeat him? What would that mean for the Blue Lions and Golden Deer? And what would happen if he attacked the Black Eagles again? There would be casualties, this time, no doubt.
"Byleth, right? There is one way you can protect the Black Eagles, as well as the other houses, but it will be by yourself," Palutena continued. Byleth nodded. She knew that she needed all the help she could get after the last attack.
"You must travel to Altea," Palutena continued once more.
"Altea? That's so far from here? What could possibly be there?" Sothis asked.
"There, you will meet the Hero King, Prince Marth," using her staff, Palutena showed a hologram of Marth. Sothis' eyes widened.
"The... Hero King?"
"Yes. He, with the help of a man named Mario is building a resistance to take him down. If you want to help, you must go there," Palutena said. Byleth thought hard. She knew that the Black Eagles would be okay without her. Still, if he attacked again...
"What are you waiting for? You must go to Altea! Don't worry, I will be your side, as usual," Sothis said. Byleth nodded.
"Okay, I'll do it."
"Here is a map to help you. It might take you some time, so it's important that you prepare accordingly," Palutena warned.
"Yes, thank you, Palutena. I hope to see you again," Byleth bowed.
"That may not be necessary. But perhaps."
"Okay, let's not waste anymore time! You must awaken and prepare!" Sothis ordered. The last thing Byleth saw was a flash of bright light...
"Professor? Professor!" The familiar voice caused Byleth to open her eyes. Standing over her was her dear friend and student, Edelgard, who was head of the Black Eagles.
"Are you okay? You collapsed after the adversary fled," Edelgard asked. Byleth sat up. She wondered if she'd imagined everything. Talking to Sothis wasn't unusual, but was Palutena just a hallucination?"
"Y-yes, Edelgard, I'm fine. Where are the other students?" Byleth asked, still feeling slightly light headed.
"I sent most of them to help the injured, as well as look into damages. There were no major damages. There will be some repair. There was a significant amount of injuries, as well others passed out due to fatigue. But there have been no casualties. I sent them away to give you breathing room, but I wanted to be the first one to know you were okay," Edelgard stated.
"Thank you, Edelgard. I appreciate it," Byleth replied. The dream spun in her head. It couldn't have been a dream. Palutena was real. She felt around in her jacket pocket. She felt the the map that Palutena had given to her. It was official. She had to leave for Altea as soon as possible.
"Professor, is something wrong? You seem stressed?" Edelgard snapped her out of her thoughts. Byleth knew that there was no point in trying to hide anything from her student, so she told her dream. She didn't tell about Sothis and Palutena, but she said she heard about a forming resistance against the man in purple in Altea, led by the Hero King, Marth, and someone named Mario. She decided that she needed to head there. Edelgard looked in shock.
"Wait, you're leaving?" She gasped.
"For only a short time. Until the man in purple is defeated," Byleth explained calmly.
"But you can't leave right now! You see the conditions here!" Edelgard reasoned.
"Listen, El, I am only doing this because I want to protect you and the rest of the Black Eagles. That is the only reason," Byleth explained.
"If you really must, please, Professor, let me come with you," Edelgard pleaded. Byleth shook her head.
"I can't let you do that, El. You're head of this house. If I were to let you come. who would look after the Black Eagles. They are weak physically and mentally. You've told me of your childhood. It took you physical and mental strength to survive that. Now, you must use that for the rest of the students. For me," Byleth urges. Edelgard sighed.
"You're right. I am sorry. But please promise you will return safely. You are not just my teacher, but my closest friend," Edelgard asked.
"Of course, El. You and the rest of the Black Eagles have been so kind since I started here. I wouldn't dream of abandoning you," Byleth answered. Edelgard wrapped Byleth in a hug.
"Thank you, Professor. Now, you must get ready. I must inform the students of your departure," Edelgard replied.
The next morning, Byleth was preparing last minute things before departing for Altea. Many of the Black Eagle Students were standing out side of the Monastery, prepared to see Byleth off.
"Good luck, Professor!"
"May you return safe and sound!"
"Professor!" Edelgard's voice came from the back. She hurried through the students, approaching Byleth. She held an old looking weapon.
"I want you to take this," she bowed, holding the weapon.
"What is it?"
"The sacred weapon in the Black Eagles; Amyr. I believe you would be willing to wield it on your quest," Edelgard explained.
"Thank you. I will use it to the best of my ability," Byleth said.
"Hope we're not missing anything!" A voice came out. Standing a little ways from the Monastery, stood two young men. They were Dimitri and Claude. Like Edelgard, they were leaders of houses. Edelgard was in charge of the Black Eagles, Dimitri the Blue Lions, and Claude, the Golden Deer.
"Dimitri. Claude. What brings you here?" Edelgard asked.
"We heard of the attack on the Black Eagles. We want to help you anyway we can," Dimitri explained.
"Thank you, Dimitri. We all appreciate it," Edelgard said
"We also heard one of your staff is going to join a resistance in Altea."
"And it looks like we all had the same idea," Dimitri said, walking up to Byleth.
"In the name of the Blue Lions, for the time being, I grant you our ancient weapon, Areadbhar," Byleth took the old staff from Dimitri.
"Thank you, Dimitri. I will use it to the best of my ability."
"What about you, Claude?"
"What kind of going off party would this be if I didn't bring a gift?" Claude laughed, walking to Byleth.
"In the name of the Golden Deer, for the time, being, I grant you our ancient weapon, Failnaught," Claude gave the old bow to Byleth.
"Thank you, Claude. I will use it to the best of my ability. And now, my friends, it is time for me to depart. Until we meet again!" Byleth announced, turning and heading for the woods that led to and from the Monastery.
"Goodbye, Professor!" Edelgard called out as she and the others waved as Byleth disappeared into the woods.
As Byleth travelled, she wondered what would happen once she arrived. Would she be able to join? Would Prince Marth shun her? All these thoughts filled her head as she travelled through the clear morning.
