Rise from the Ashes (Part 5!!!!!)
You all had returned to Wright and Co. offices.
(Y/N): So, let's see if we can piece everything together. The victim, Detective Bruce Goodman, was stabbed to death after 5:00 PM on the 21st. He died in the Prosecutor's parking lot... and the Police Department's evidence room.
Ema: What's this "and the evidence room" part!? The Prosecutor's Office and the Police Department are 30 minutes apart by car.
Blake: So we just need to get to the bottom of that.
Ema: Alright! Let's go!
Phoenix: You seem enthusiastic, Ema.
Ema: Science awaits!
Weiss: Very enthusiastic.
https://youtu.be/pWVXXHy4fko
With that, Ema leads the whole Defense Team to the Underground Parking Lot.
Ruby: You know ... Ema runs pretty fast ... for a scientific investigator. It took a lot to use my Semblance to just get us here.
Phoenix: I ... still feel dizzy.
Ema: You know, I really don't think we should worry about the Police Department murder! There wasn't even a body found there! Who cares? And my sister would never do such a thing! I know it...
Yang: What are you talking about?
Ema: She wouldn't get rid of evidence! We're both professionals at what we do... and I trust her!
(Y/N): Okay, let's check it out. What do we got?
Ema: Luminol Testing Fluid!
Phoenix: L-luminol?
Ema: Blood is sticky stuff, you know. You can't just wash it away with a little water. Even if you can't see it, it's still there...
Phoenix: But wouldn't the police have already done those tests?
Ema: Never trust anyone's eyes but your own, Mr. Wright!
(Y/N): Let me see.
You grabbed it and began to spray it over the area between Edgeworth's car and the oil drum.
https://youtu.be/a4mPHUWdgXY
(Y/N): Okay, now what?
Ema: Here.
She gave you some red shades.
(Y/N): Hmmm ... AHA! I see blood!
Ema: Uhhhh... It's so... ugh!
Phoenix: Ema, you're shaking.
Ema: It's just... this is my first time seeing real blood!
Weiss: You're a newbie to this, even for a girl who loves science.
Ema: O-okay, well, we definitely know that this is a bloodstain. But, doesn't something strike you as odd? Scientifically speaking, of course.
(Y/N): Hmmm ... the amount of blood is small. And considering there was a lot of blood on the sole of Goodman's shoe, that says a lot.
Phoenix: That's right. There should be more.
Ema: We can't be sure that the police will reveal all their evidence in court. Sometimes they fail to mention evidence that doesn't fit with their view of the case.
Phoenix: And we'll drag that "hidden evidence" out into the light of day!
Ruby: This is really going to help us out a lot!
???: HA!
Angel appeared.
Angel: I wonder how that fluid of yours would react to a nice Deli Box?
Ruby: It's Ms. Starr!
(Y/N): Angel. I-
Angel: Not bad for rookies. Maybe you should have the deli box.
Yang: I am hungry!
Yang began to eat away!
Yang: Lady, you bring the best lunches!
Blake: I don't know. Teruteru's food is better.
Yang: (sigh) Yeah, true.
Angel: You certainly put me in a tight spot today.
(Y/N): Angel, we-
Angel: No, no hard feelings at all (Y/N). I should be sorry. I witnessed everything from that security room right there. But... I was afraid that wouldn't sound convincing enough, you see... I was wrong to think that. I'm sorry.
Ema: Sorry? You lied on the witness stand! That's unforgivable!
Weiss whacked her on the head!
Ema: HEY! WHAT DID YOU DO THAT FOR WEISS?!
Weiss: Let her finish!
Ema: You're an Ice Queen, alright.
Weiss: Don't start with that, please.
Angel: She's right, little girl. Even if the place I witnessed the events from was different, I still saw what I saw. I saw Chief Prosecutor Skye stab a man in cold blood, and that testimony still stands!
(Y/N): Are you sure?
Angel: Yes, I still saw Chief Prosecutor Skye stab Detective Goodman. I swear on it as a former detective.
Yang: Huh, and you were also, "the Cough-Up Queen?"
Angel: Yes... It was a long time ago. Well, two years ago. No matter how hardened the criminal, when they faced me... They coughed it up.
Phoenix: Coughed it... up?
Angel: They confessed. They babbled like babies. You know, I may seem like a demon sometimes... But I can be an angel, too.
(Y/N): I bet. You look like one.
Angel just blushed and giggled.
Angel: Aren't you just adorable?
(Y/N): (blushing) Well ... thanks. So, why were you fired then?
Angel: Because of the SL-9 incident.
Ruby: That's been coming up a lot lately.
(Y/N): You mean the same one with the name on the tag of the switchblade here?
Angel: That's right. Goodman was the head detective of that case.
Everyone: WHAT?!
Angel: That knife was evidence from that case... the murder weapon. It was due for transferal the very day that Goodman was killed. As I suspected... SL-9 isn't over! Not yet! All we are is just disposable to them.
Weiss: What do you mean?
Angel: Two years ago... it was the biggest case I'd ever handled. The police and the prosecutors were desperate for decisive evidence.
Ema: So... they didn't solve it?
Angel: On the contrary. It was solved quite cleanly. The criminal was caught and executed. That bastard got what was coming to him. It doesn't get any cleaner than that. The only problem was... they never did find decisive evidence. Not even a little.
Ruby: But he was caught! Why would-
Angel: It was forged evidence.
Ema: Wh-what? You mean they executed someone with fabricated evidence!?
Angel: ... The best part came several months after the trial. Every detective involved with the case was dealt with. Some were demoted to patrolmen, others found themselves out of a job...
(Y/N): HOLY CRAP! THAT MEANS THAT OFFICER MARSHALL WAS-
Ruby: HE WAS A DETECTIVE?!
Angel: That's right. As professional detectives, we investigated that case from every angle. Jake was particularly determined. And then... it was over. And he was demoted. However... He hasn't forgotten. And neither have I!
Blake: You mean SL-9, right?
Angel: Yes. There was another side to that case, a hidden side. That's what we're after now. And no one up in their fancy offices can stop us.
Ema: Wait! Th-those lunches you sell...
Angel: There is only one reason I come to sell lunches in this accursed office. I come here to meet old friends... boyfriends that can help me investigate.
(Y/N): So, you don't actually have a real boyfriend?
Angel: Not yet. But, the spot is still open, big boy.
Team RWBY: Yep. She's in love with him. We should have expected this.
Angel: Anyway, rookies.
Everyone: Yeah?
Angel: You guys really want to get to the bottom of this? Then take this.
She hands a lunchbox, and-
(Y/N): WOW! SALISBURY STEAK! HAHAHAHA! THIS IS-
Angel: Not so fast, Big Boy. That's for a certain man.
Ruby: You mean Officer Marshall?
Angel: Yep.
Ema: Say, what happened to Officer Marshall? A long time ago, when he was helping my sister do cases, he was so nice. He got along so well with my sister, it made me jealous. And... he was nice to me too, back then. But now he's become so cold!
Angel: Jake ... a lot has happened to him. We're both trying to put the past to rest, that's all.
(Y/N): Thanks Angel. You really are a good girl.
Angel: Maybe I'll give you a Salisbury Steak lunch later, Big Boy.
She winked at you.
(Y/N): Right.
At the Police Department Entrance...
You guys ran into Gumshoe!
Gumshoe: ONE STEAK LU- Oh, you guys.
Yang: Nice to see you too, Detective Gumshoe.
Gumshoe: Now's no time for chit-chat, pal. I'm a busy man! What I really need is a steak lunch from Lunchland.
Ema: Oh... you mean one of these? Actually, it's not for sale...
Gumshoe felt like a ton of bricks hit him.
Ruby: Aww ... poor Detective Gumshoe. He looks so sad.
Weiss: After what happened with all those cases we went through, I can tell his salary must be very low at this point.
Gumshoe: Now's no time for despair! We've caught our criminal! Now we just need evidence!
Phoenix: The criminal... you mean...?
Gumshoe: You heard about the stabbing in the Police Department evidence room, pal? It's the biggest scandal to hit the station in ages! Everything's topsy-turvy.
Phoenix: But, Detective Gumshoe, who was it?
Gumshoe: Listen, pal, all I know is I need me a steak lunch, pronto! Standing around here talking isn't going to fill my belly!
He then begins to take off!
(Y/N): Wait! Detective Gumshoe!
Gumshoe: If you want to know more, head on down to the detention center, pal. Questioning should be over, so I figure he's down there having a good cry. Later!
Ema: He ran off to the evidence room...
Phoenix: Well ... we're off to a start, at least.
At the Detention Center...
Ruby: Who do you think the guy who stabbed Detective Goodman is?
(Y/N): Beats me. We should-
???: Sir! That's what I'm saying! Me, a perpetrator? I-I-I'd say I-I-I was the perpetrated against, sir! That's what I'd say! Ah, oh, uh. Hi. Greetings, sir!
It was Officer Meekins!
Ruby: OFFICER MEEKINS?!
Blake: If he keeps blowing into that megaphone, my ears are going to bleed.
(Y/N): Which ones?
Blake: Both.
Meekins: Perpetrator Officer Meekins reporting, sir!!!
Ema: What...!? Whaaaaaaaaat!?
Weiss: How does Detective Gumshoe have more brain cells than him?
https://youtu.be/dJjjhSPsSEU
Meekins: Sir! I'm a patrolman with General Affairs, sir! SIR!
You guys covered your ears as Officer Meekins kept screaming into his megaphone!
(Y/N): OFFICER MEEKINS! WE CAN HEAR YOU FINE!
Meekins: I had some business that day, sir, and so I went to the evidence room, sir... The guard office in front of the room was empty, sir!
Ema: So, normally there's a guard at the evidence room?
Meekins: That's right, sir! Because evidence is kept in the evidence room, sir! Now, the security officer... was none other than Officer Marshall!
Ruby: Officer Marshall guards the evidence room?
Yang: While singing "Home on the Range" and eating ribs and baked beans, I suppose.
Meekins: Then, sir, I happened to glance at the security room monitor! That's when I saw him, sir! A suspicious person in the evidence room! A suspicious person, sir! A suspicious person! Yowwowowowowowow!!!
He was then choking himself with his own handcuffs!
(Y/N): This man is an even bigger circus than Yogi was! And he was faking it!
Weiss: Then what happened?
Meekins: After that, sir, I... I... everything went white! I saw red! I blacked out! And... when I came to, I was here. In the detention center.
Ema took notice of Meekins' bandaged hand.
Ema: Um, might I ask... what happened to your hand?
Meekins: Sir! There was no one to bandage me, sir! So I did what I could to wrap it up, sir!
(Y/N): So apparently, you are the one who killed Detective Goodman. According to Chief Gant and the police.
Meekins: Sir... Please don't look at me with those sad puppy dog eyes, sir! If you have to label me as persecutor or victim, sir... Then label me victim!
(Y/N): But you're here ... in the Detention Center ... alive.
Meekins: Ah, yes, well, that's true, sir. I suppose you could say that.
Phoenix: Did you know the victim, Detective Goodman?
Meekins: Well, sir, if I had to label him as a "stranger" or a "total stranger"... Then I'd say he leans heavily on the "total stranger" side!
Blake: So ... you didn't know him.
Meekins: Sir! I work in a tiny department, devoid of light or other creature comforts! I don't know any detectives!
Ema: So, if he was a total stranger, why did you stab him?
Meekins: Sir! I had n-no intention of killing him, sir! None! N-nor do I have any recollection of k-killing him, sir!
Yang: And ... did you hurt yourself when Detective Goodman was stabbed?
Meekins: Well! You see, sir, I, er...
Ema: Don't you think you should just confess?
Meekins: But, sir! Sir! But! There was nothing I could do!
Phoenix: "Nothing you could do"...?
Meekins: Sir, to tell the truth, sir, when it happened... When the detective pointed that knife at me, I just hollered, sir! And the next thing I knew, I was unconscious! Then, when I opened my eyes... I was alone in the evidence room, sir! All alone! Alone, because... Because Detective Goodman had disappeared!!!
(Y/N): HE WHAT?!
Meekins: Then when I looked down, I was gushing blood from my hand, sir! Oh, the shock! Oh, the sorrow, sir! Can you imagine how I felt?
(Y/N): HOW CAN A VICTIM'S BODY JUST DISAPPEAR LIKE THAT?! Unless someone managed to get into the Evidence Room and drag it out, this is just... crazy!
Ruby: Wait a second! Officer Meekins! Do you recognize this?
Ruby pulled out Goodman's ID!
Meekins: ... Hey! That's it, sir! That's it! That's it!!!
Ema: That's what!?
Meekins: My head was a blank until this very moment! But, sir, now I remember! I remember, sir!
Phoenix: You mean you remember what happened?
Meekins: Correct! That card, that card was the cause of it all!
Ema: This... ID card?
Meekins: Exactly, sir! That's exactly it! Nothing could be more exact, sir! Nothing!
(Y/N): Okay, so what do you remember?
Meekins: Well sir, you might say I'm a lost little patrolman. A lost little lamb, if you will! I didn't know Mr. Detective Goodman who was in the evidence room.
Phoenix: And that's why you thought he looked suspicious...
Meekins: Sir, I entered the evidence room, and asked the man to display his ID card!
Ema: Well, that sounds pretty much by the book so far.
Meekins: Th-that's right, sir! That's what I've been trying to tell you!
Phoenix: So you asked Detective Goodman to show his ID card. What did he do?
Meekins: That's the thing! Suddenly he pointed a knife at me!
Ema: What...!?
Meekins: Sir, I assure you I was as flustered as you are right now! So I whooped and leapt at him!
(Y/N): WOAH! So, Goodman attacked first.
Meekins: "Do unto others before they do unto you"! My father's own words, sir!
Ruby: Wh-what happened then?
Meekins: Well... My eyes, sir... everything went white. When I awoke, I was here.
Ema: So, Officer Meekins, why was it that they arrested you?
Phoenix: What do you mean, Ema?
Ema: Let's look at what we know. Now, Officer Meekins didn't know Detective Goodman... And the "victim" whom he met at the scene of the crime didn't show his ID card.
(Y/N): So we don't know for sure if that victim was really Detective Goodman.
Ema: And if this "body" just "disappeared" from the evidence room... We don't even know if anyone actually died!
Meekins: That's it, sir! That! That's what I wanted to say! That is... I did say something along those lines.
Blake: And yet you still ended up in here.
Meekins: They told me that it had to be him, sir. "On that day, at that time..." Detective Goodman was definitely in the evidence room." That's what they said.
Phoenix: But... you don't remember the events clearly?
Meekins: No... but the video tape is quite clear.
Everyone: Video tape?
Meekins: From the security camera. The crime, my crime, the crime I swore to stamp out! It's there! It's me! It's on tape!
You all stood there in silence.
(Y/N): YOU WAITED TO TELL US THIS NOW?!
Meekins: I'm sorry, really sorry, sir! I'll hand over my badge! I don't deserve it!
(Y/N): Ugh, keep it.
It was clear, next stop was the police department!
