For A Price
Catra's P.O.V.
I crossed my arms, raising a brow. "Wanna tell me why you were messing with us?" I asked. Double Trouble stood up, brushing dirt off of their legs and chuckling.
"What? No 'hello' for me? No good greetings? Not even a bit of applause for my wonderful performance?" they asked. "Okay, that makes so much more sense as to why Entrapta acted so weird." Scorpia said. I walked over to her and unwrapped her from the banner she was trapped in.
"It's been awhile since I've seen you, darlings. I gotta say, I didn't think I'd ever find you here at the Crimson Waste again. Nonetheless, welcome back." Double Trouble replied, hopping onto a nearby barrel and crossing one leg over the other. Melog went to Entrapta and used his claws to cut her free from the clothes line. I turned around and narrowed my eyes onto the shape shifter.
"Wanna tell me why you were messing with us?" I repeated.
"Serious as always. Anyway, I genuinely just wanted to have some fun with you guys. I saw the opportunity to cause a little mayhem, and I couldn't resist." Double Trouble replied. They walked over towards Entrapta, placing their hands on their hips. "However, I think this is the first time I met this one here. You're Entrapta, right? For some reason, I didn't imagine you to be so short." he said. Entrapta blinked for a moment, staring at them. Then her whole face suddenly lit up, staring at them intensely. Double Trouble blinked, and took a step back.
"Uh, is she okay?"
"Oh I'm sure she's thrilled." I replied with a smirk. "Huh? Why would she-"
Double Trouble cried out as the small tech lunged forward and began to examine them. Their arms, their legs, their tail, their hair, just about everything. "GAH! What are you- stop it!" Double Trouble snapped, trying to pull away from her grasp. Entrapta didn't hesitate to take out her recorder, pressing a button.
"Entry Log 205: creature experience 387. This is truly something I have never seen before. A real shape shifter, able to take the physical form of anyone! They can mimic they're appearance and voice!" she said.
"Okay, okay, get off! Personal space here!" Double Trouble snapped, finally shoving off Entrapta. However, she still gave them a curious expression. "You have to tell me, how does it work?!" she asked. Double Trouble blinked, seemingly confused. "I beg pardon?" they asked.
"Your transformation! How does it work? Is it the work of some sort of technology? Or is it a kind of magic?" Entrapta asked. "Oh. Well, I'm afraid its neither. It's an ability that only I was born with. Something that nobody could ever hope to have." Double Trouble stated. "Fascinating! I never realized anyone could be born with such abilities! What do you have to do to make it work?" Entrapta asked.
"It's simple, darling. If I want to do it, I just," they paused, taking a moment to transform and become another Entrapta, "do it."
Entrapta gasped loudly, eyes getting bigger by the second. She then took Double Trouble's hands into hers and pulled them over, so their faces were inches apart. "Please let me study you...." she whispered. "Okay now this is getting creepy." I said, stepping forward and gently pushing the two apart. Double Trouble transformed back into their own form, and raised a brow.
"Well, your friend seems....eager."
"Yeah, she has a thing for science and magic stuff. She's a scientist, she can't help it." Scorpia said. I sighed. "Well, as fun as all of this has been, we need to get back on track. We still need to find this Zane guy and buy those supplies from him." I said. Double Trouble perked up, and smiled.
"Ah, so you're the ones who want to buy those supplies." they said. I looked at them surprised. "Wait, how do you know about those?" I asked. "Oh well, long story short....I'm your contact." Double Trouble replied. My eyes widened.
"What? Hold on, that's not right." I said. "Yeah, I thought Zane was a dark elf." Scorpia said. "Oh, he is....the real Zane is, anyway." Double Trouble replied, looking away.
"The real Zane?!" I said.
"Yes. He and I actually have quite the history. Recently, he kinda ticked me off. So....I may or may not have stolen his alias and his supplies so I could steal his money." they replied. "Whoa whoa whoa, isn't that kinda dangerous. I mean, you make it sound like this Zane guy isn't nice. Aren't you worried if he finds out that you're stealing his business?" Scorpia asked.
"The fool did this to himself. He shouldn't have crossed me. And I needed a gig to make more cash anyways. After that disaster that happened in that underwater nightclub, no one would see Peekabloo anymore. So I needed to figure something out." Double Trouble explained. I looked at him confused. "Huh? Underwater nightclub?" I said.
"Yeah, uh, I'll explain that later." Scorpia said. "My point being, after Horde Prime's defeat, I've had a little trouble finding jobs. But this new gig pays well. So I'll stick with it till I hit the next one." Double Trouble explained.
I sighed, placing a hand on my head and running a hand through my hair. "Fine, whatever. If you're our contact, that means you have our supplies. So, do you wanna sell us those supplies or what?" I said. Double Trouble smiled, tail flickering. "Of course. I pay my highest respects to my customers. Especially for an old friend." they replied. I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, right, friend. Some friend you were back then." I muttered to myself.
"This way, darlings. Follow me." Double Trouble called out, and began to walk down another alley. The three of us followed them, with Melog and Emily right beside us. Not much was said as we walked. As we walked, there were less and less people, and soon we were on vacant ground. Soon we came upon a cave that was covered with a slightly torn green sheet. Double Trouble approached it, and pulled the sheet aside.
"If you would step inside~" they said.
I didn't look at them as I stepped inside. As we each stepped inside, Scorpia looked around in surprise. "Huh, this is where you live?" she said. Double Trouble nodded, stepping inside as well. "Indeed. Since the fall of the Horde, I have had a bit of trouble finding a comfortable place to stay. But, as they say, a beggar can't be a chooser." they replied.
I looked around in surprise. It was a rather small cave, with only a couple lanterns to use as lights. There was one completely ripped up couch against the wall, and a single mattress in the far corner, with a dirty blanket on it. There were also a few crates, which I assumed was our supplies, but....that was it. There was no food, no drawers, no decorations. It was really...sad.
For some reason, a strong pang of pity and concern struck my heart as I looked around. "Is this....where you really live?"
"I know, I know. It's nothing near as fancy as Bright Moon. But this is what I call home. And it suits me quite well." Double Trouble replied, plopping themselves onto the couch. "Uh, well...it's a really nice, actually. I mean, uh, you have a couch, and a bed- er, mattress. And uh....a couple lamps..." Scorpia murmured.
"This place is a dump." Entrapta replied bluntly. "Entrapta!" Scorpia said, then looked to Double Trouble, who now had their eyes narrowed onto us. "I'm sorry about that, she uh, isn't really so bad..." she said.
"You came here to do business, yes? Your supplies are over there," Double Trouble replied, pointing to the crates with their tail, "And I'll be happy to give them to you....for a price, of course."
I nodded, and took out the coin bag. I tossed it to them, and they caught it. "Fabulous. Now, do you plan on carrying those? Or do you have a vehicle to carry them?" Double Trouble asked. "We have a vehicle, but it's all the way at the other end of the market. So we'll have to carry them there." I said. Scorpia walked over to the crates and effortlessly picked two up, supporting them on her shoulders.
"That won't be a problem, I got these two." she stated. "Good. I'll grab the last one then." I said. I walked over to it, and picked it up. Although I could barely get it off the ground, making me grunt. "Geez, what the heck did Bow order anyway?" I said.
"Here, I'll help." Entrapta said, coming over and taking the other side with her pigtails. I looked to her and smiled. "Thanks." I said.
"Well, I guess you'll be going then. It's too bad, I kinda wanted to take a chance to catch up. But I suppose its best to leave business as business." Double Trouble replied. I looked over at them, narrowing my eyes at them. "Don't you think I forgot what you did to me." I said. Melog felt my rage, and growled at the shape shifter. Scorpia looked at me confused.
"Catra? What do you mean?" she asked. Double Trouble's smile widened, and they reached a hand back to run their fingers through their hair. I wanted to be mad at them. I wanted to yell at them for what they did. Betraying me. Saying those things to me. But in all honesty....I had no right for such things.
"....it's doesn't matter. It's the past," I looked to Entrapta and Scorpia, "Let's go."
Both of them could tell by my dead serious tone that I meant it. They both nodded in understanding, and we began to walk out of the cave. Double Trouble waved, smiling innocently.
"Take care. Come again if you're in need of more business. It was nice seeing you all." they said. I ignored what they said and kept walking. I started to have flashbacks....we didn't have many good times, but they were there. I thought I shared some sort of friendship with Double Trouble. It was all I had at the time. I had lost Adora and Scorpia, so I leaned onto them. However, I should've known from the start....they never cared about me for even a second.
Double Trouble's P.O.V.
I watched as the three girls walked away, with the robot and magic kitty walking beside them. But then I frowned. It's strange. I never imagined I'd see Catra again. It was truly an interesting experience, but still....I feel strange.
A strange sense of....I don't know, what even is this? It feels familiar, I know that. I sighed, stepping back inside my cave....my pathetic place I call a home. Entrapta nailed it. This place is a dump. I wasn't ever in this bad of a shape, even during the war. This sucks.
....ah, now I remember what this feeling is called.
Lonely.
I'm lonely.
"Double Trouble!" I whirled around, seeing the goblin like man coming towards me. I placed my hands on my hips. "Yeesh, there's such thing as knocking, Danny." I replied.
"Those new supplies you stole, where are they?!" he snapped. I crossed my arms across my chest. "They're none of your concern-"
"But they're your concern!" Danny stated. I raised a brow. "What are you talking about?" I asked. "Zane found out you've hacked into his business. He's set a trap for ya! He put a tracking device on those crates! He'll track ya down and kill ya!" he stated. I chuckled.
"Oh please, first of all, he couldn't ever beat me. Second, that's not even a concern anymore. The crates are gone. I just sold them to..." that was when it hit me. If there were tracking devices on those crates, then that means.... "Zane is gonna hunt down Catra and her friends...." I murmured to myself
Danny looked at me surprised, and laughed. "Oh wow, Catra? As in the ex-Force Captain of the Horde? Man, you nailed it, my friend. Now Zane will take care of that traitor, and you get off the hook. All you need to do is take the money and leave before he's finished with Catra." he stated. I frowned, and looked to the floor. He's right. I could do exactly that, and get away from this crisis stress free....so why am I hesitating?
"Double Trouble?" Danny said. I glanced down at the coin bag I had, and picked it up. I took a moment to gently shake it, eyes widening. This was definitely more than she was supposed to give me, I can tell by just the weight.
Why would she do that?
