Part 3
You scrape at the dried slime with a snow shovel. "This is like concrete... Any luck Kid?" You call across the pool where your cuff chain extended.
"I hate you." He responds loudly. You frown and look around.
"How did Sniper-God kill this thing again?" You call to Sunny who sat with Mr. Dracule.
"He used a fire star! It dried and made the monster slime explode!" Your brother gushes, doing the exploding sound and motion. You giggle lightly at that.
"So. What's the way to beat him now?" You ask.
"Hmm..." Sunny hops into the pool, closely examining the dried slime. "Salt water." He looks up at you.
"You're a genius kid. Hey Mihawk, think you can help us out with that?" You ask the teacher.
"I'll see what I can do." He nods before leaving. Kid comes over, looking at Sunny.
"How'd you figure that out?" He inquires.
"It smells like stuff that dissolves in salt water. Which explains why Slime-Zone avoided salt water." Sunny shrugs.
"Smart." Kid praises.
"What is this?" Ms. Hancock's sneer makes you all look over as she picks up a drawing.
"That's RedDemon!" Sunny chimes.
"Its junk if it's not Rubberman." She scoffs, tearing it in half. You lunge at her but Kid swiftly holds you back.
"You b-"
"It's okay big Sis." Sunny hums calmly, making you stop and look at him. He smiles softly, meeting Hancock's gaze calmly. "I know he's not popular, and a lot of people don't like him. That's why he's my favorite. He fights for himself, that's why he's so awesome."
You relax and smile, "Well, when you put it like that, he's my favorite too.... And Ms. Hancock, touch my brother's belongings again, and I'll rip your ugly face off." You snarl the last part up at her. She scoffs and doesn't respond.
"You're tough." Kid comments to Sunny.
"RedDemon is tougher! Did you know he got hit by a train and still beat Sergeant Fang?" Sunny gushes excitedly.
"Is that so? Sounds crazy." Kid hums as you pick up Sunny and place him outside of the pool as salt water starts to pour in.
"You're more level headed than me, that's for sure." You murmur, patting your brother's head. He grins at that.
"You're just protective Sis, I understand." He chimes.
"Hey, it's working." Kid calls to you. You blink and swiftly move to scoop out the old slime. After a while, Kid comes to your side. "Sling for seven o'clock." He murmurs. You look at him before smirking as you both fill up your shovels with slime and chuck it over your shoulders.
"Kya!" Hancock squeals in disgust, and you both look back to see her covered in slime. Sunny covers his mouth to keep from laughing out loud as Mihawk turns away with a highly amused smile. "You-"
"Oops. Didn't see you there!" You wave before getting back to work. You and Kid spent two hours scooping out the slime, often 'accidentally' pelting Hancock with it.
"Alright, that's enough for today." Mihawk speaks up finally. You and Kid climb out of the pool and the cuffs are removed.
"Finally, see you tomorrow." Kid waves as he walks away.
"Hey Sis! I finished my homework! Can we take a detour and get ice cream?" Sunny chimes.
"You just want to take a detour in case RedDemon is out and about." You smirk. He just giggles in response. "Alright, you've been pretty good today anyway." You muse leading him to the car.
"Can we invite Kid over sometime? He looks fun." His question makes you look at him.
"Sunny, buddy... Did you forget that Kid is my nemesis?" You remind him.
"But you two were getting along so well..." He pouts.
"It's best not to fight with people you're chained too. You remember that Sunny." You hum getting in the driver's side.
"I'm pretty sure I'll never be chained to anyone..." He sweatdrops getting in as well.
"You never know, sometimes it takes the right person getting under your skin." You chuckle.
"Sure Sis..." He hums. "Think we'll see more supers?"
"I hope not... I don't think that jump earlier was good for the car..." You trail off, as there's a slight chatter from the engine.
"Looks like we're going to the mechanic and then ice cream." Sunny comments.
"I can fix it..." You grumble.
"But sis, your project." He reminds you.
"Dammit..." You sigh, back tracking to a mechanic shop. "I hope this wont be expensive..." You mutter pulling into the shop. You and Sunny get out peering around. "Hello?"
"Coming." A voice calls and a familiar redhead appears from inside. You both pause and grimace. "The jump?" Kid guesses. You give a nod. "I think I know what it probably is, I'll have it done as soon as I can... But I'm going to need your number so I can call you once it's done."
"Sure... Any idea the price?" You rub your neck.
"I'll let you know." He says.
"Alright..." You get a paper from your backpack and write your number down on it before giving it to him. "See you then."
"Hey Kid, do you play videogames?" Sunny suddenly asks.
"Sometimes." Kid glances at him as he pops the car hood.
"Will you come play with me sometime?" Sunny smiles hopefully.
"Uh..." You and Kid look at each other.
"If that's what you want Sunny." You sigh.
"But don't you have friends your age?" Kid inquires. Sunny pauses, sharing a glance with you.
"Lets get you some ice cream buddy." You hum leading Sunny out.
"Hey sis.... Do you think I'll ever have a friend my age?" Sunny asks looking down.
"Come on Sunny, I didn't make any real friends until high school. And I only have Law." You point out.
"Law's pretty cool... but he's creepy." Sunny nods.
"He... Just likes dissecting things..." You pat his head. "And he is a good dancer." You joke. Sunny giggles at that.
"Have you made any bets with him?"
"I'm trying buddy." You smile. Sunny bounces a bit and you both soon find an ice cream shop to eat at.
You listen to your little brother gush about supers. He was still in elementary, but he reads everything on supers, from magazines, to books, to encyclopedias- which you pretty much had to read and explain everything in it to him since they were so high level. Sunny grasped most of it, which was impressive in itself. He still read new articles about them too, checking the dictionaries whenever he got lost in the words.
After nearly an hour, you lead him back to the mechanic shop to find Kid working under your car. "Gonna be a few more hours.." He says as you and Sunny step next to the car.
"I figured... We took a detour so we're a bit too far to walk back and forth." You point out.
"You can borrow my motorcycle, the keys are over there." He points without coming out from under the car. "It'll be dark by the time I'm done, this place isn't exactly kid friendly. We can trade back tomorrow."
".... Thanks Kid." You tell him. He pauses before continuing to work.
"Just get your brother out of here. He needs to warm up his gaming skills before I come over." He rumbles. Sunny lights up at that and you smile at that.
"Alright, lets go Sunny," You grab the keys and go to Kid's motorcycle, placing your brother in front of you and placing Kid's helmet on him.
"No jumps!" Kid calls.
"Alright." You respond before turning on the motorcycle and riding out.
Another cup of coffee and you still had nothing. The building frame sat in front of you, almost tauntingly- Or that was the third cup of coffee messing with you. Your phone rings, and you pick up without checking.
"What if we put giant airbags on the buildings?" You murmur.
"... That's a really bad idea." The voice informs you.
"Yeah, that does seem like it wouldn't do any good either... Who is this?" You ask writing down the idea before putting an x next to it.
"It's Kid... I was gonna leave a message but... Anyway, I need to order a part for your car, it's gonna take another day or two." He tells you.
"Damn that sounds expensive..." You rub your temple.
"It's a cheap part... I can bring you a replacement car for now, I don't think it's legal for you drive Sunny around without a side car." He offers.
"I don't want to trouble you with it..." You sigh.
"It's going to trouble me if you get my bike impounded.... What's your address? I can come by now and trade."
"Isn't it late? You should get some sleep Kid." You murmur, poking the building frame and frowning when it collapses.
"You're one to talk... What are you even doing?" He questions.
"Failing.... Fine, Mmm One Piece apartments, room 422, your motorcycle should be in front of one of the elevators." You tell him with a slight yawn.
"Alright, you still gonna be up when I get there?" He inquires.
"Yep, I'll even get some coffee started for you. I don't need my mechanic falling asleep riding home."
"Are you kidding? It's getting cold, only that ice bastard could sleep like this." He huffs.
"I like cold rooms to sleep in." You grumble, "It makes the blankets much more comfy."
"I'm not riding around with a blanket, it'll only get blown away." He points out.
"Or look like a cape.... Super Kid~" You hum in sleepy amusement.
"Wow..." He mutters.
"Alright... Magnets." You start.
"Huh?" He says confused.
"Is there a way for them to reassemble to the original shape once they collapse? Wait... Even if the frame can reconstruct. The building itself wont retain it's shape..." You sigh touching your head to the table. "Dammit..."
"Actually, you might be on to something..." Kid breathes.
"You think so?" You pick up your head.
"Yeah, give me a bit." He answers. A few moments pass and there's a knock on the door. You go and peer out before letting Kid in.
"Coffee." You nod hanging up before going and making him a cup for him. Kid looks over the building frame.
"What's holding it up now?" He asks.
"Metal cords." You murmur knocking it down and pressing a button to make it re-erect.
"What's wrong with it being like that?" He asks.
"There's too much material going into the cords and the machines that bring them back in. Plus the buildings still get destroyed." You rub your eye.
"Then... Maybe you shouldn't be focusing on the framework." He straightens, taking his motorcycle keys and handing you a car key. You pause, blinking a few times.
"I'm going to need more coffee..." You look to your coffee machine.
"You need more sleep." Kid shakes his head.
"Cant... I have to start over again..." You mutter, grabbing your sketch folder. The folder slips from your fingers, hitting the ground, building sketches and layouts scattering everywhere. "I need a new folder..." You mutter as you both stoop to collect the papers.
"What are these for?" He inquires.
"They're starting a Super Proof program. To help minimize the damage supers cause when they fight. So if I can submit something that's helpful... Maybe we can get a better place to live..." You shrug.
"This is like one of the safest places in the city..." He looks at you confused.
"Still, there was a building across from us until The Surgeon and Pink Flamingo fought... I'm just worried." You sigh as he hands you the papers and you put the stack on the table.
"Makes sense... See ya." He waves, going to the door.
"Careful out there Kid." You tell him. Once he's out, you go back to work. You get another hour then before you pass out.
