Power Rangers: Ninja Steel (Opinions)

I've got a bone to pick with Power Rangers: Ninja Steel.

The Neo-Saban era of Power Rangers has been lackluster to say the least. Samurai was great, Megaforce and Super Megaforce were... Bad. Dino Charge was impressively good, and from what I've heard, Dino Supercharge was lackluster.

Ninja Steel was something of a disappointment for me. Japanese and Chinese culture-themed seasons of Power Rangers seem to have a pretty good track record (Ninja Storm, Jungle Fury, Samurai, etc). But Ninja Steel was one of those seasons where when it was good, it was exceptional, and when it was bad, it was abysmal.

Guess which one was more frequent?

The series had some good ideas. Brody's father being kidnapped and his being held captive as a slave for years was an interesting plot point, but it was executed poorly. I want to say that a majority of attention during the series went to Brody, our Red Ranger, Preston, our Blue Ranger, and Levi/Aiden, our Gold Ranger. With Calvin, Hayley and Sarah, our Yellow, White, and Pink Rangers respectively, mostly getting the shaft.

I know Shuriken Sentai Ninninger  wasn't exactly known as the best season of Sentai, but just the theme of Ninja had a lot of potential to be a great adaptation.

Brody was raised by a Ninja father. We could've learned so much more about him. What happened to his mother? How did his father learn the art of Ninja? What were the years of slavery to an alien race like for Brody?

How did Sarah gain her jack-of-all-trades mentality? Did something happen at home when she was a child? Did she want to become an expert at everything to avoid future problems?

Tell me more about these characters, dammit. I wanna know more. That's my main problem with Ninja Steel. I want to know more. I'm not an amazing writer, but I feel like I could write an entire season better than these guys can write five minutes of one episode.

Super Ninja Steel seems to be an up-down roller coaster when it comes to quality, but I hope for the best. This Saturday's upcoming episode seems promising. I hope the Galactic Ninja is who I think it is.

So, I just talked a lot of hard stuff about Ninja Steel. You may be asking, Dawn, how would've you adapted Ninninger?

Well, I have some pretty cool ideas, but they'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Goodnight, my friends.
