Chapter Twenty Four - Good People
Another school day arrived and the morning went by with any hitches. I was in the bathroom freshening up at lunchtime when Jodi Melvile crashed into the room. Literally crashed not like in a mean teasing way to degree her weight. She was actually decent even though, technically we weren't friends.
"Jodi, what happened?" I questioned seeing green goo all down the front of her top.
"Nothing."
"Clearly it's something. Here." I got some tissue and dampened it. "Did someone do this to you?" I wondered
"I said it's nothing Mia." she sighed wiping herself down
"Okay, don't tell me, but at least let me get your spare clothes from your locker." she nodded
"31/04..25" she told me her code
"I'll be right back." i left the bathroom and went to her locker and unlocked it. I took out her gym bag and made sure it had the spare clothes she needed. Seeing that it did I head back to the girls bathroom only to find her not there. "Jodi?" I ask pushing back the cubicle doors but she wasn't there. I stepped back out of the bathroom and looked around
"You okay?" Chloe and Pete came over
"Have you seen Jodi? She was just here." I ask them confused
"No, we saw her about 15 minutes ago, her new lunch got knocked all over her." Pete told me and I nodded in understanding.
"I just went to get her spare clothes, when I got back she was gone. You sure you have seen her in the past five minutes?" i inquired
"Definitely , she probably just decided to go home. Come on." Chloe pulled me away and I returned Jodi's back, back to her locker.

The next day Chloe, Pete, Clark and I all walk onto the school grounds talking about Clark helping land with mid term prep. While he was leaving with the intention of escorting Lana to school. Whitney came, and Clark heard that he had a call back from the scout at Kansas Sharks and got to try out for the team.
"Clark I'm telling you, this is good news for you." Pete assure him
"Kansas state gives Whitney a scholarship and Lana gives him a tongue bath. How is that good news?" Clark rebuffs as I link my arm with his.
"Even i'm having a hard time following this skewed Ross logic." Chloe agreed
"Lana's gonna be dateless for her own party." he explained. Of course his mind would go straight to that. Being a boy best friend is something even i can't understand.
"Hey, Pete." we heard someone say and we turn around. My head tilted seeing Jodi, she got up from the bench and i was in complete awe. She must have dropped 30 pounds, to be wearing those jeans. Which was impossible because it had not even been 24 hours since I last saw her and no one can lose that much wait and be in school the next day.
"Jodi?" Pete questioned "You look..." he trailed off
"Thinner?" she asked, that was an understatement.
"I was still looking for a euphemism but, yeah." Chloe added
"Jodi, how did you... what..." I stuttered not being able to find the question or anything else in my head due to utter shock and confusion.
"Are you okay?" Clark asked
"Never better. My diet's starting to pay off. Bought some new clothes." she smartened down her denim jacket. What does could make a teen girl drop so suddenly in less than a day.
"You look great." Pete sighed and I knocked his shoulder, he could not have this reaction just based on how she looked, that could give her insecurities or at least amplified them.
"I wanted to thank you for sticking up for me yesterday. Most people wouldn't have done that. You too Mia, you were so kind to me afterwards." she thanked us
"Most people can't stand Dustin." she then looked to me
"I'm still too confused to answer." my brain could not compute what it was seeing.
"Yeah. Listen. I was wondering, do you have date for Lana's party?" she wondered packing her books into her bag. Pete didn't say anything so Clark prodded him in the back.
"No, he's still free." Clark answered
"Would you like to go with me?" she hoped and again he said nothing sparking the same action from Clark
"He'd love too." she was happy with the answer as she swung her bag onto her shoulder
"Great. Okay, well, I'll see you later. she left and then he finally spoke
"Bye."
"I don't get it." I spoke up finally finding my words as well. Pete turned to me looking offended
"Women, dig me. Get used to it."
"No, you dribble droop. Jodi, its like she's lost like 30 pounds over night. Which is impossible no matter what your diet and exercise routine is." I turn to Chloe "Please tell me you noticed it too."
"I did." she agreed with me
"If she could do that, half the school would be after the secret. Come on." he pulled me away.
"Ugh. Only boys could be that dismissive of a girls change. How you get by is sometimes beyond me. I'm telling you it's impossible." but my words fell on deaf ears.
