Chapter Twenty Five - Choice Words
After school i did a shift at the cafe and then headed home. When I got there, Lana was just leaving. She seemed happy despite her boyfriend was out of town for her birthday.
"Hey Mia. How was work?"
"It was okay, you here to see Clark?" I wondered stopping in front of her
"Your mom. Produce order for the party. About that, Clark said you weren't coming." she replied and at that moment i could swing for my brother.
"Yeah, I'm doing a couple of extra shifts this week at work." i lied. Truth was I just didn't want to go, but i was wise enough to try and spare her feelings.
"Oh. Okay." I went to head inside "Mia." I let out a little sigh and turned around "
"Do you not like me or something? Because I've noticed anytime we talk or I'm around you get very defensive almost like your trying not to be aggressive." she voiced her thoughts
"I'm like that with a lot of people.."
"You seem to do fine with Whitney." with that sentence rang a air of jealousy which in truth made me laugh.
"I turned Whitney down for a month, constantly call him names, roll my eyes and sigh at nearly every other sentence that comes out of his mouth. You think that means i'm doing fine? Cause I think it wreaks of jealousy." I sass back
"I'm not jealous." she denied
"Of course you're not. You backed up an inch when talking, your arms are folded to hide the fact that you're secretly clenching you fists. And you're trying extremely hard not to clench your jaw. You're not jealous." i point out and she tries to realx "Guess you know how it feels now."
"What does that supposed to mean?"
"The feelings that are coursing through you. I'm pretty sure Whitney feels that every time he sees you with my brother. The same brother that your eyes glue too despite having a boyfriend right in front of you. Have a nice party, Lana." I turn on my heel and head inside. My brother is beaming away to my mom.
"Clark." he looks over to me "Tell your crush to back the hell off."
"Huh?"
"Lana, cornered me outside. About her birthday party and then about my attitude towards her. What have you been blabbing about now" she shoved him in the arm
"Hey." he complained "I didn't say anything."
"Oh so you didn't tell her I wasn't going to her party. Which lead to an argument?" I question rhetorically
"You're not going?" mom asked
"I'd rather attempt to stick needles in my eyes." I grumble and head upstairs. I dump my bag on my bed and remove my jacket.
"What is your problem with Lana?!" Clark exclaims
"Go away, Clark." I sigh
"No, you've had it in for her ever since we were little. What is your problem!" he shouts
"She is my problem you moron!" I yell back "You treat her like she walks on water, when all she does is screw around with you! She wears a piece of jewelery that fucks with us for christ's sake. You will ditch everyone in sight to get a date with her it's pathetic for someone who knows she has a boyfriend. The guy strung you up and you still haven't learned your lesson." My voice lowered
"You are a smart, amazing, selfless guy and any girl would be lucky to have you. Yet you want the one everyone wants, the one you can't have. Deep down she knows that, she might not be willing to acknowledge it but she knows and she doesn't care, all she cares about is how her life sucks, how terrible it is that she has a aunt that wants to give her things or a boyfriend that gets jealous cause that's a over reaction when in fact shows he actually cares. How she doesn't get approval from one person. Oh the horror. I will stop hating her when she leaves you the hell alone." I snatch my jacket off the bed "I'm going out." I shove past him
-----
I was laid out at the gorge staring up at the sky. I hated when Clark and I fought, he just gets me so wound up, sometimes it drives me insane. According to Mom thats what siblings are supposed to do.
"Do you normally play dead near a gorge?" I look up seeing Lex
"Do you normally try to replace the usual people who now tend to find me here?" I question back then lay my head back down. "Besides I'm not playing dead."
"Then what are you doing?" he wonders
"I'm cooling off. That's what you do after you have a argument with a sibling." I sigh not looking back over to him.
"You and Clark fight, shocker. What was it about?"
"The undying love of his life. No wait that's his hopeless optimism, I meant the pointless object of his affection." I sass
"Ah, Miss Lana Lang. Think he's punching above his weight?" I scoff and stand up
"No, she is. He just can't see it and you're no help. Clark deserves better the the practically blind, boy jerking girl next door, If you had any sense at all you wouldn't play into his fantasy like everyone else does." he made an oooh face
"So cold. Miss Kent."
"Just observant." I sigh "Cooling off over, goodbye Lex." I make my way past him
