Chapter Fifty Three - Ryan

I was driving home with Mom, we had made some late deliveries and were heading home. The two of us were talking about random things. I loved this time alone with Mom, no boys around. Even though she sometimes got embarrassing, she was a cool Mom.

"Who got you that?" Mom asked as I was toying with my new necklace "It's beautiful."

"Whitney. His Mom took him to this flea market. Just to decompress and he saw it." i grinned "Its rare because its a double saint. On this side it's St Christoper, the patron saint of travellers and on the other is St Luke, Patron saint to Doctors and surgeons. He literally said he felt like it was made for me." I laughed and Mom just smiled

"That was sweet of him. I think it's serendipitous that somehow he managed to find something that explains you down to a tee." she glanced at me and I turned back to the road, seeing a boy ran out

"Mom, Look out." I yelled but it was too late she crashed into the boy and skidded to a stop. The boy rolled off and we jumped out of the car. "Are you all right?" we knelt by the boys side

"Are you all right?" Mom asked again as he sat himself up

"I lost my shoe..."were his first words. looking confused

"We're taking you to the hospital. Mia." I nodded to Mom and lifted him up, he must be no younger than 12 or something. I helped him into the back and sat with him as Mom close my door and then got in herself.

--------

Clark and Dad joined us at the hospital. Mom and Dad spoke with the doctor while Clark and i talked as well all of us outside looking in on Ryan as we found out his name was. He was reading a comic while he was being observed

"He just came out of the woods?" Clark asked me

"Yeah. you should have seen him, he was out of breath like he'd been running for ages. Who could let that happen? Just why?" I answered tracing my thumb across my lips

"He checks out physically, just scrapes and bruises." The Doctor informed us

"I could have told them that?" I muttered to my brother "it helps to be us."

"Have you manage to contact his parents yet?" Dad wondered as we continued to look in. he wasn't paying attention to us at the moment.

"Other than knowing his name, Ryan claims to have no memory." was the answer

"Are you saying he has amnesia?" Mom inquired

"True amnesia is extremely rare. It's most likely post traumatic shock. His memory will probably return within 24 to 48 hours." Ryan looked over to us so Clark and I gave him a wave and a smile which he awkwardly returned.

"What if it doesn't?" Clark and i wondered

"Martha, Jonathan." they were asked to step away

"I'm okay, to go in talk with him?" i wondered and I was given a nod. opening the door I stepped inside and closed it behind me.

"Hi Ryan I'm...."

"Mia, your mom said your name earlier." he replied then shuffled to one side "You can sit down if you want."he offered making me smiled

"Thank you. Here let me help with your shirt." i helped him pout it on and he buttoned it up then stared at me and tilted his head "Everything okay?" I question

"I don't know. Theres something different about you, but I don't know what yet." he declared and i gave him a confused look but he went back to reading his comic.

------

Ryan came to stay with us and we made another bed in Clarks room. The next morning I came down dressed but groggier than usual. I sniffed the air then saw the feast on the table.

"Oh here she is, the living dead." Clark joked as I jogged downstairs

"Bite me, loser." I snip back at him "Awesome, i'm starving. Thanks Mom." I sat myself down next to Ryan

"Actually, Ryan did this all himself." Mom replied and I turned to him

"Thanks you're an angel." I kissed his cheek and scanned over the food Wondering what to have . Oh scrambled egg, pancakes and bacon lots of bacon.

"What are you gonna have, Mia?" Ryan questioned

"Eggs, pancakes and lots of bacon." i piled it onto my plate. "I'm famished." I noticed that Ryan scowled a little as i dug into the food.

"Sweetheart, are you sure you can eat all that?" Mom wondered as a bit of bacon hung out of my mouth. I hummed and brining the stray piece into my mouth and eating.

"Ryan are you okay?" Mom wondered as i poured myself some orange juice. Ryan nodded quietly

" Ryan are you sure you don't remember anything from last night?" Dad questioned "You see, because I still can't figure why you were out on route 90 at 10:00 at night." I drank the juice and glanced at Ryan.

"I said I don't remember." he replied "I'm not hiding anything."

"Dad, don't start with the 20 questions." I retorted feeling protective of the young boy. Ryan got up and left anyway making me sigh "Nice going Dad."

"What I was only asking?" I quickly finished my breakfast, as did Clark and we went to find him with the basketball. Ryan was sat on the tractor reading his comic.

"Guess your parents want me to leave now." Ryan stated as we stopped in front of him. Why on earth would that be his first thought?

"Why would you think that?" I wonder

"Because they don't believe me?" he retorted and that made me feel sad, he may not remember a lot but clearly I could tell a fellow guarded person like myself.

"We just wanna help you get home." Clark told him sincerely

"What if i don't have a home? What if you found out I did bad things? What would happen then?" he questioned rapidly and something led me to believe that remembered more than he was willing to let on.

"Ryan, everything is gonna work out, we just know it." I try to give him hope but he just looks away. I turn to Clark and give a side glance to Ryan for his turn to try.

"You like comics?" Clark asked seeing the paper book

"I like this one." he answered showing us the cover 'Warrior Angel'

"Warrior Angel, why him?"

"because he protects people who can't protect themselves." Ryan answered and we fell into a lapse of silence when Ryan looked back at us "I like being around you, It's peaceful"

"Why don't you get your head out of that comic and come play some ball" We made our way round the tractor when I snatched the ball from Clark and took my shot "Oh she shoots she scores and the crowd goes wild." I punch the air then grab the ball handing it to Ryan.

"Don't mind her she's never subtle when she does something right." Clark told Ryan

"Only because it annoys the hell out of you. What are sisters for, go on Ryan." he threw the wall in it hit the back but didn't go through the hoop. Clark caught it

"I know what you're thinking. I really suck."

"Nothing a little practice can't cure. Go ahead. Get your hand up, keep your elbows straight, just guide the ball with your fingers." Ryan tries again and does it this time. "He shoots his scores. Nice." he high fives the two of us
