Level 9- Descending

"I don't think this house wants us to leave," Patrick said, shaking.

Zoe's phone vibrated again. Checking it, she found another e-mail.

Do you want to stop all this? Go to the source.

"Do you want to stop all this? Go to the source," Zoe read out loud.

"Great. A riddle," Patrick mumbled.

"Wait a minute... I think I know what this means," Zoe realized. "Follow me."

"You heard the lady," Xavier chimed in. "And just like before, we're sticking TOGETHER. Before we go, though, grab everything you need."

After searching around for a bit, she led the two down into the basement. When they reached the bottom of the stairs, Zoe announced, "I think we should find that secret passage. I heard it might be in some storage area."

Luckily for the trio, the storage room was right across from where they stood. Going inside, Patrick said, "Okay, now what?"

"This room connects to some staircase," Zoe replied.

Patrick leaned on the left wall to think about it, not knowing that he uncovered the passage by doing so.

The hidden door swung open, revealing an environment lit only by candles.

"You ready for this?" asked Zoe.

"Nope," said Patrick and Xavier simultaneously.

They went down the wooden staircase, reaching a hallway with a black-and-white checkered floor. The trio walked down the hallway until they came to a teal door with a horizontal slit in the center.

"It's locked," said Zoe.

"Wait, move your foot again," said Xavier. "I thought I saw something."

Zoe did as he asked and noticed that one of the tiles came loose, revealing a key. She then used it to open the door to a bright red room.

"That's weird. The e-mail said it was the source, but I don't see anything suspicious," thought Zoe.

"Hey, do you guys feel a breeze?" Patrick asked the others.

"No. Why?" said Xavier.

"It seems to be coming from this crack," Patrick answered. Sure enough, a cool breeze came from an opening in the right wall.

"Step aside," ordered Xavier. Xavier then took his metal baseball bat and swung it at the opening. He kept at it until he made a good-sized hole in the wall.

"Maybe the 'source' is in there," Zoe speculated.

The group went inside the hole. Cooper and the others watched everything unfold on his laptop in awe at Hidden Lake. When the participants' live feeds suddenly started glitching, that awe turned to fear.

"Now what?" Cooper asked, worried. "Flying suitcases and now this?"

The live feeds then cut out, leaving behind black screens.

"What. Just. Happened?" Lauren demanded.

"I don't know," Amy said, panicking. "I'll try texting them." She did so, but the texts ultimately did not go through.

"This is all your fault! You just had to hold that dumbass contest so some nobodies could win 100 fucking dollars!" Lauren yelled at Amy. "Now, depending on what happens, we might have blood on our hands!"

"How was I supposed to know this was going to happen?!" Amy shot back.

"Okay, everybody, listen up!" Cooper shouted. He turned to Amy and ordered, "You are going to make this right. Call the cops."
