Happiness Ends Darkly - NoMin ¦ Special #5
“Daddy can we go to the river?” the small, brown haired boy asked, looking up at his Father for permission with begging in his eyes. “Papa says we can as long as you say it's okay.”
Jeno looked down at his son, a warm smile spreading on his face directed at the child he was proud to call his. Glancing at his husband for a second who looked at him with stern eyes, Jeno nodded, his eye smile appearing in agreement although he would have agreed even if Jaemin, his husband, had had a neutral expression.
“Go get your floaties, Jisung. we’re going to the river!” Jeno cheered, bouncing in spot as his black hair fluttered all over.
Peels of glee exited Jisung’s mouth as he dashed over to a storage closet where he knew his Papa kept his yellow floaties. Sure enough, he found them on a high shelf but he wasn't tall enough to reach so he was left with no choice but to get help.
“Papa?! Can you get my floaties?!” Jisung yelled, frustrated that he wasn't very tall. “I can't get them!”
Jaemin popped his head through the door, simply extending his hand and passing them down to the child who smiled brightly at him before running to the vehicle where he got in with no preparation.
Jaemin and Jeno both laughed at his excitement, quickly gathering several things before entering the vehicle where they listened to Jisung babble endlessly about everything he knew or say. With the distraction of a child, the time spent getting to the river wasn't long at all which was a plus on Jisung’s part, who was already impatient from waiting in the vehicle previously.
“Jisung-ie, I want you to stay in the shallow end, alright?” Jaemin instructed, setting up an umbrella as he lathered sunscreen on his son while Jeno unloaded the stuff from their vehicle. “You're not allowed to take off your floaties and you're not allowed to run off, okay?”
Jisung nodded in understanding, his feet itching to just run and splash in the cool water where he already spotted another child. Now, he wasn't very social but he recognized this other person due to them being in the same class and he was ecstatic to play with him.
“Yes Papa, I understand. Can I go now? I see Lele and I want to play with him!”
Jaemin smiled, patting Jisung’s head in affection as he left him to run to the water while ensuring he would listen to instructions and stay in the shallower ends.
The two children played in the water, splashing each other as Jaemin and Jeno fondly smiled at the children, simply sitting under their umbrella as Jeno lovingly stroked his husband’s silver hair.
“You ever wonder what it’ll be like when he grows up?” Jamein suddenly asked, referring to Jisung who was still very small for his age. “What if he ends up growing taller than us? How’ll I kiss the top of his head? What if he won't even want me to kiss the top of his head anymore?! I'll be heart broken!”
Jeno chuckled, shaking his head as he listened to Jaemin’s interesting worries. In all honesty, they weren't really worries but to Jaemin, they were things that would devastate him completely if turned upside down. Jeno and Jisung were the two people that meant so much and he wouldn't be able to live if Jisung just suddenly abandoned him.
“Papa? Are you crying? Did you get hurt or did Daddy hurt you? I'LL FIGHT HIM FOR YOU!” Jisung yelled, his face full of determination and concern.
“No sweetie, I was just thinking,” Jaemin explained, wiping his eyes as he focused on the fact that he didn’t notice Jisung approaching him. He didn't even realize that his eyes had gotten foggy.
“About what? Were you thinking about Daddy eating all the candies in the big jar? Sometimes I cry when Daddy eats more than two candies and doesn’t let me eat a lot like him,” Jisung stated, his face suddenly expressing sadness as Jeno stifled a laugh.
“Why am I being targeted here?!” Jeno asked, shaking his head at his son's antics. “I didn't make Papa cry and he wasn't crying because I ate all the candy.”
Jisung gave a weak glare, not believing his Father as he grabbed onto Jaemins larger hand in a comforting manner, his hair dripping water all over the place as he completely forgot about Lele who stood behind him waiting for Jisung to hurry and get back to the water.
“Well then why was Papa crying?”
“Because I was just thinking about you when you grow up,” Jaemin said with a smile. “What if you tell me it's weird to kiss the top of your head? I'll be so sad!”
A dramatic gasp left Jisung’s mouth, disbelief as he shook his head in disapproval.
“You ALWAYS have to kiss my head! You can't stop! That's a silly reason to cry! Who will kiss it when I get an ouchie on my leg? Daddy just pats my head and it doesn’t feel better! YOU always make it feel better!” Jisung said seriously, his face red as he reassured his Papa with as much enthusiasm as he could.
Jaemin laughed, pulling Jisung into a hug as the child giggled. It was such a strange setting to be getting emotional but Jaemin couldn't complain. Any setting was perfect when it came to expressing his love for his little family, his rays of Sunshine.
