Chapter 23

You, Clocky, and Toby walked through the forest, now shrouded in darkness. The three of you each carried a bag, and Toby carried different weapons in each of the many pockets of his cargo pants. The three of you began your trek to the Mini Mart to steal some sugary snacks.

"Alright, let's go over the plan." Clockwork said breaking the silence.

"Toby will pick the lock and I'll go find and disable the alarm system, and (y/n)." She paused, smiling at you and putting a hand on your shoulder.

"Fill your bag with everything you want." You smiled, and Toby slung his arm around your shoulder, resting his head against yours. He insisted on wearing eyeliner too, although his was more reminiscent of a lead singer in a 90's punk band. His crudely drawn on liner started to run, and it was more noticeable when he got closer to your face. You smiled at your two friends, feeling blessed to have such a great support system. Toby had his arm draped across your shoulders, and Clocky walked right beside you.
The three of you came to the edge of the forest, and peeked out onto the road to make sure no one was around. You walked out into the road, the two of them following you until you all got to the Mini Mart. Toby got to work picking the lock, and once the door was open Clocky raced for the back office, disabling the alarm and turning on the lights. She ran through the back of the store, turning on the slushie machines.

You stood in the doorway of the convenience store, not really knowing where to start. Toby grabbed your arm and ran down the snack aisle, throwing different Little Debbie snacks into his black tote bag. You hadn't really stolen anything before, occasionally you'd sneak a few gummy worms from the candy store but nothing really like this. Toby lightly elbowed you, frosting from a cinnamon bun all over his mouth.

"C-Come on, j-just take it." He smiled, and you hesitated. Toby reached out and grabbed a bunch of pastries, putting them in your bag.

"I-It's that easy." He smiled proudly and strolled down the aisle, on his way to find something else. A smile crept onto your face, it was too late to turn back, who's to say you couldn't have a little fun. You started frantically throwing things into your bag, running down the aisles giggling as you grabbed more things. You grabbed your favorite snack foods of all different kinds, running down to the cooler section to grab all your favorite bottled drinks. Clockwork filled her bag with different kinds of alcohol, Toby following suit and shoving different kinds of beer into his bag that was starting to overflow.

"Don't crush your pastries Rodgers!" Clocky yelled from the other side, putting a bottle of cheap vodka into her bag. You looked at her and she held up another bottle of vodka, tossing it over to you. You stepped back and opened your bag, catching the bottle in it. The three of you cheered and jumped up and down. A thrill you had never felt filled your whole body, you were having more fun here than you ever had in your entire life. That was until the three of you saw red and blue lights shining through the windows. Your heart sunk, and you looked at Toby and Clocky for any sort of advice. Toby handed Clockwork a knife, and handed you one of his hatchets.

"Don't p-panic." You nodded, and the three of you hid behind the shelves. The police swung open the door, and you could hear them walking towards your hiding spot. You clutched onto the hatchet, your knuckles turning white. You winded back, getting ready to swing when you heard the sound of one of the other cops screaming out in pain. Clockwork had taken the offensive, a true slasher at work. Toby got up and ran over to give her backup, and you stood up too. You ran over and saw Toby and Clockwork each wrangling with a cop.
You heard something click behind you, and you turned around to see an officer pointing his gun at you. You froze, analyzing the situation. You knew that in this situation it was either you or him, and you chose yourself. You hurled your hatchet at him before he could shoot you, burying it in his head. You ran over and grabbed the hatchet out of the man's head. You thought stealing was invigorating, this was an all new high you couldn't explain. You felt like you had taken an adrenaline shot.

You ran over to assist your friends, and buried Toby's hatchet into the cop attacking Clocky. She smiled, and used that opportunity to finish him off. All that was left was Toby's cop, but he had already killed him. The three of you stood looking at each other, covered in blood and breathing heavily. You raised your arms to the sky and rejoiced at your first kill, the two of them rushing over to squeeze you tight in a group hug. It would only be a matter of time before more cops showed up, so the three of you grabbed your bags, filled up a large slushie cup, and darted back into the forest. The three of you laughed as you walked back to the mansion, each taking turns drinking out of the same bottle of cheap vodka. It didn't taste good, but it tasted like freedom.
You all drank slushies, vodka, and ate junk food. Everything felt right in the world at that moment. LIttle did they know a familiar masked man was closing in on them. Masky walked through the forest, holding his knife as he approached the sounds of laughter and conversation. When he snuck up behind the individuals he was trailing he quickly recognized it was you, Toby, and Clocky. His heart jumped when he saw you, it had been almost three days, and he hadn't seen you since your argument. He decided not to pursue the three, and started to walk away. A twig cracked under his feet, and he mentally cursed himself.
The three of you turned around quickly, holding your weapons. Your heart dropped when you saw him, and Clocky reached over and squeezed your hand. Masky turned around to face you, and you refused to make eye contact with him, scowling at the ground. Masky immediately noticed the blood on your clothes, he wanted to run over to you and check for wounds, but he knew he couldn't do that now. Toby looked at you and noticed your scowl, and decided to chase Tim off.

"W-What's up T-Timothy." He placed his arm around your waist and pulled you so your side was right up against his. Clocky looked over at him and smirked, trying to make Tim jealous was cold and evil, and she loved it. She picked up on what he was trying to do and leaned on your shoulder, resting her head against yours.

"(Y/n) here got her first two kills tonight, she totally gutted these two cops." Clocky beamed with pride, taking full credit for your success. Masky however was the farthest from proud someone could ever be. Now you were wrapped up in this too, leaving with you would be a lot harder than he thought.

"What kind of situation did you idiots put yourselves in to have to kill cops?" Masky crossed his arms, and slowly walked over to the trio. You looked down at the ground, refusing to look at him. Masky knew why you didn't want to meet his eyes, and the guilt gnawed at him. Even when you were covered in blood, covered in seat, and your hair all crazy he still thought you were the most beautiful woman in the world. His heart ached that he couldn't just wrap his arms around you and tell you to your face just how beautiful he knew you were.
His frustrations translated to harshness, and he roughly grabbed your chin, forcing you to look up at him.

"I asked you a question." He hissed. Anger welled up inside you, he couldn't even treat you decently when you didn't even do anything wrong. This was all his fault, and now he was going to treat you like this? Not a chance. You raised your hand and slapped his mask across the face. He stepped back, completely and utterly in shock. You've never hit him before, it caught him completely off guard. Anyone else Masky would've torn them open, but he looked at you deep in your eyes. The hidden sadness that your eyes showed made him waver, he wasn't supposed to give you special treatment but he couldn't help it, he loved you too much.

He froze, slowly turning to look at you. Clocky and Toby looked at you with horrified expressions plastered across their faces. Not a lot of people actually hauled off and hit Masky, but on the rare occasion someone did it never ended well for them. Toby knew first hand, he had gotten into it with him before and it was scary how strong that guy was. He sighed angrily and turned around to walk away. You wanted to reach out to him, wrap your arms around him and never let go. But you didn't, you stood there frozen in place as Masky just walked away.
You sighed, and looked down at the ground, your friends took notice and immediately jumped in to make you feel better.

"Don't w-worry about him (y/n), h-he's just a j-jerk." Clocky handed you the bottle of vodka and you smiled, taking another sip. The three of you made your way back to the mansion, ready to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Tim walked inside and closed the door behind him, leaning against the door, sliding down and hitting the floor. He took off his mask and slid it across the floor away from him, pulling his lighter and pack of cigarettes out of his pocket. Shakily lighting a cigarette and bringing it to his mouth, his hands trembling wildly. He immediately put out the cigarette and violently threw the box and lighter across the room. He buried his face in his hands, gripping his hair sitting there silently.
All his life he had faced nothing but hardships, he finally thought he had something good, something that finally made his life worth living. But just like everything else in his life it was ripped away by the operator. His sanity, his life, Brian, and now you, he just couldn't seem to win.

A shaky breath escaped him, trying not to let himself be swallowed by anxiety. All he wanted right now was you, you always knew what to say, you always knew what to do. He knew he couldn't be with you, for your own safety. He wanted to run to you more than anything in the world, he wanted your comforting words, he needed them. The only thing stopping him from going to see you is the fact that if he did the operator would surely kill you. He racked his brain, trying to think of some loophole.
There wasn't one, the only thing he could do to solve this issue was to run away with you. But you had already gotten your first kill. He needed to get you out of here before you were too ingrained in The Operator's way of life. It was only a matter of time before you had gotten in too deep, before The Operator's hold on you became too great for you to defy. In this moment of clarity Tim realized this was never his home, that the people here never cared about him.

A terrible ringing filled his ears, and he squeezed his eyes shut. This was never a home, this wasn't worth it anymore, it was never worth it in the first place. Nothing made sense, he needed to get out of here and he needed to take you with him before you ended up like him, before you ended up like Brian.
He tried to think of a plan, all that was on his mind was getting out of here. He was certain however that there were multiple warrants for his arrest, this place was the only thing keeping him from being done in. He'd have to run far, and he'd have to run fast. He looked around the cabin, waiting for the ringing to cease. There was no way you'd trust him as easily as you did before, he knew he'd have to make it up to you big time.

To pull off what he wanted to do he knew he'd have to take you far away, you'd lose your home, friends, and family a second time. He felt guilty knowing he'd have to put you through that again, but it was the only way he could be with you. If being with you forever meant they'd have to start from scratch so be it, he was willing to do whatever it took to make sure you didn't slip away from him again. Even if it meant using force to get you there.
