Chapter 22
You slowly started to regain consciousness, and your eyes fluttered open. You looked around and found yourself in Jeff's room, the sounds of Xbox controllers and gunshot sound effects filled the air. You looked and saw Jeff and someone you didn't recognize sitting in front of his bed, playing videogames on his TV. The one you didn't recognize was a shorter blonde guy, but due to his small stature all you could see was the top of his blonde head. You groaned and sat up, rubbing your eyes.
"Hello?" The two of them turned around quickly, and stared at you.
"You're awake, feeling better short stack?" You looked to the window that was covered by worn, black curtains, the sun peeking through. Your throat was dry, and you were hit by a hunger you like nothing you've never felt before.
"How long was I out?" The shorter blonde guy levitated in the air, trying to get a better look at you. The two of them looked at each other and back at you.
"About two days." Your eyes widened, and you nearly fainted again. Your stomach growled louder and longer than it ever had in your entire life.
"Where's Tim?" Jeff and Ben looked at each other yet again, exchanging glances like they were speaking a silent language.
"Uhhh about that..." The two of them avoided looking at you, you looked around and noticed a large bag on the floor. Attached to it was a folded piece of paper. You leaned over and grabbed the paper, your name written on the front of it. You immediately recognized Tim's handwriting, and nervously opened the note.
"Dear (Y/n),
I'm sorry things have to be this way, but you can't stay with me in my cabin anymore. I know I've pushed you away a million times but this time I really need you to stay away from me. We can't be together anymore. The Operator is letting you stay in the mansion, and I've gathered all of your things for you so you wouldn't have to come back here and face me.
I know what we had appeared to be special, but I warned you when we met that I wasn't someone you wanted to be involved with. I promised you forever, and I can't make good on that promise. I know we've been through this so many times that our lives feel like one bad, never ending soap opera. But this time it's going to have to stick, I'm sorry I couldn't get you that ring.
-Tim"
Tears welled up in your eyes, dripping down onto the flimsy piece of paper. Your hands were shaking wildly. Once again Tim has proved to be fickle and unreliable, and this time it was going to stay that way. Tim had abandoned you and left you to the wolves once again, getting your hopes up and crushing them in the palm of his hand. This time you weren't going to run back to him like a lost puppy however. Sobs started to uncontrollably escape you, and you covered your mouth to stifle the noise. Jeff and Ben refused to look at you, Jeff would be lying if he said he didn't feel a little bit bad for you. You almost die from a horrible sickness and as soon as you wake up you get dumped... that's cold, even for him.
"Thank you for taking care of me, but I need to leave." You got up without saying another word, and walked out of the room. You held the bag tightly in your hands, trying not to let anymore tears escape. You walked down the never ending hallways until you came upon the room you were looking for. You knocked on the door, waiting for the desired person to answer. The door opened and your auburn haired friend answered, obviously having just woken up. Clocky rubbed her eyes and leaned against the door frame in her loose pajamas.
"(Y/n)...?" You broke down, tears pouring out of your eyes. She jumped back in surprise.
"Tim broke up with me!" Clocky stood there in disbelief, but quickly pulled you inside. She pulled you into a tight embrace, and you sobbed into her arms. She lightly petted your hair and tried to calm you down. Anger overtook her, as you cried in her arms she imagined all the terrible things she would do to Tim when she got her hands on him.
"It's okay girl, now all this means is you're a free spirit." She pulled away and looked at you, a warm smile on her face. She glanced down at your bag, assuming that was all your stuff.
"How about you stay with me for a while, and in the meantime we can figure out your rooming situation, but if you decide to be roomies with me for a while I'm sure it won't be an issue." You smiled and wiped the tears away from your eyes. Maybe getting to spend some time in a new environment would be good for you, and living with your new best friend didn't seem so bad. Everyone in the mansion had a big room, Clockwork was no exception. It was easily big enough for two people, it even had its own attached bathroom.
"So I assume since you survived the sickness you'll have to start killing soon, for your first time you can come with me and Toby." Your stomach churned at the thought of having to kill someone, but for the first time the idea made sense to you. This was the operator's home, and by extension everyone else's home. The people who invaded the forest were invading your home. You had a stronger resolve, and began to wrap your head around the idea a little more.
There was a knock at Clocky's door, and she walked over to answer. She peeked out the door and saw Toby standing there, in his typical dully colored attire.
Toby walked inside even though he hadn't been invited, and stopped dead in his tracks when he realized you were there. He took notice of your tearstained face and puffy eyes, and his previous cheerful smile melted into a look of worry.
"(Y/n)... W-What's wrong?" He rushed over and scooped you up in a friendly hug, slightly lifting you off the ground.
"Her and Tim are splitsville." Clocky stated simply. Toby gasped loudly and set you down, grabbing onto your shoulders and staring into your eyes. His hazel eyes were soft and full of concern, a sympathetic look painted on his pale face.
"B-Breakups suck, b-believe me I k-know." He pulled you in for another hug, and the tears started again. Toby had an arm wrapped around your back and his other hand comfortingly placed on the back of your head. Surprisingly Toby's presence was quite soothing, something you'd never thought you'd ever say in your life.
"I-I have an idea!" Toby pushed you away gently, and motioned for Clockwork to come over.
"Let's g-go out and h-have some fun." A devious smile plastered across his face. Clocky smiled and raised an eyebrow, obviously intrigued.
"You have my attention." Toby giggled, and started to explain his plan.
"L-Let's go out and r-rob Mini Mart! W-We can steal a-all the snacks we want." Toby lightly elbowed you, trying to gauge your reaction. Clocky nodded in agreement, and held her hand out to you.
"Nothing heals a broken heart like sugar and carbs." You chuckled and grabbed onto her hand, ready to get started. This is your life now, you might as well have a little bit of fun.
You, Clocky, and Toby raided her closet and your bag to find an outfit for the two of you to wear. Toby had grabbed a clean pile of clothes from his room and rooted through it, looking for an interesting outfit of his own. The goal was to wear something cute yet understated, that way if they got caught it wouldn't easily be traced back to them.
"You still have all that makeup I gave you?" You nodded and she smirked.
"Excellent." She stood in front of her full body mirror, posing in the outfit she picked out for herself. She had picked out some high-waisted, baggy, black jeans with lots of frayed holes. Underneath the jeans she wore fishnets which were visible through the holes in her jeans, and a faded red belt tied snug around her waist. She wore a black cropped hoodie with what looked to be homemade. It had a crudely painted skull on the front of the hoodie, looking like she painted it on with bleach. Topping off the outfit was a pair of black combat boots. She looked great, and you paused looking for an outfit of your own to admire Clocky's outfit.
"You're gonna want something like this, something darkly colored and understated." She got down to help you look in the piles. After a little while of searching she pulled out some things for you to try on.
"We need to make sure you look like a total bombshell in case we run into Tim." Clocky grinned, handing you your outfit. You grabbed the balled up mass of clothes and headed towards the bathroom. You closed the door behind you and tried on the clothes you had been given. You wore an off the shoulder top. It was black, and the sleeves were see-through and lacy. The shirt only came down to your midriff. It was both classy and stylish. You next slipped on a pair of black skinny jeans, with a (f/c) heart embroidered on your back left pocket. You peeked out of the door to find Clocky and Toby both eagerly looking back at you.
You walked out and closed the door behind you, and the two of them stared at you in awe. You smiled nervously, it's been a while since you've dressed like this. You blushed out of embarrassment, rubbing the back of your head. You looked down and noticed Toby had found an outfit too. A pair of black cargo pants, a faded Nirvana t-shirt, and an equally faded black and gray flannel. The three of you looked like you were attending Warped Tour.
Next Clocky decided to do your makeup, going with some bold (f/c) eyeshadow, sharp winged eyeliner, and some large fake lashes. You looked like a million bucks. The three of you sat in a circle discussing your plan, and for the first time all day the thought of Tim had finally escaped your mind
~~
Tim laid on his couch, drowning his sorrows in a bottle of Jack Daniels. He took another swig of his bottle of whiskey, feeling more dead inside than usual. He hated the fact you weren't here, unlike all the other times he had to push you away this time it was completely out of his hands. The one time he didn't actually want you to leave and it works, just his luck. The TV blathered on, playing the local news channel. But he wasn't listening, it only served as background noise to his suffering. He sighed and leaned back against the arm of his couch, what he wouldn't give to feel your lips on his just one more time.
He needed to get out of this stupid place, he didn't want to be here anymore. The operator throwing Brian's death in his face was enough to convince him that this wasn't home, it was a prison. He needed to figure out a way to get out of here with you, and go somewhere that the two of you could build a new life together. He held up the simple diamond ring that Masky had stolen a while ago. The diamond glistened in the glow of his candle, he wanted to be with you forever, someplace where you wouldn't be ripped from his grasp so easily.
He got up off the couch and turned off the TV, soon Hoodie would show up and the two of them would go out killing. He needed to sober up a little first before he went out. He walked into the kitchen and started brewing himself a pot of coffee. He looked around at the quiet, dimly lit, kitchen, the last ever conversation he had with you was here, and he had instigated a fight with you. It pained him that the last conversation the two of you shared was a bitter fight. He took a sip of the black coffee, taking the bitter taste as punishment for you not being here anymore. Life seemed so dull without you, he felt so full of life when you were around him, but now he just felt like an empty husk of a man. He always told himself that he didn't need anyone, that he was better off alone. He worked alone, lived alone, and operated alone. But after getting a taste of what love was he couldn't get enough, and now he'd give anything to not be alone. It took him this long to realize that all the time he spent alone wasn't a blessing, the loneliness had been gnawing at him for a long time. Now that you were gone it finally came back to bite him in the ass.
