chap 4
"Time to get up, Sunshine," Tony informed loudly, pulling the cover away from the bed and throwing it carelessly on the floor.
"Tonyyy," Anna groaned into her pillow, making herself into a ball of nightwear and flowing hair to save herself from the cold air.
"I will tilt the bed," Tony warned seriously.
"Do not tilt the bed! Last time you managed to knock over my nightstand and everything on it at the same time," Anna complained, sitting up in what she would call entirely reasonable annoyance.
"You didn't get up when I told you to," Tony complained, pulling the curtains away to let the still relatively early sunlight enter the previously dark room.
"So you decided to knock stuff over?" Anna asked, slowly getting up from the bed.
"Did it work? Good. Get dressed. Preferably in actual clothes instead of your pj's," Tony ordered, heading towards the door.
"Hey, Tony, where's Loki?" Anna asked casually.
"Huh?" he stopped in his tracks. "Oh, Antilope-helmet? We shifted places once I'd finished my work. Don't worry, Anna, I'm not letting him hurt you."
"Hey Parker," Anna greeted when he entered the penthouse; "I'll be ready in just a second, I just gotta get my purse."
"Yeah, no problem," he told, even though she'd already rushed out of the room. He glanced slightly after her before finding himself distracted by Tony entering.
"Peter, you're here," he stated happily.
"Y-yeah, you, you told me to be here, remember?" Peter replied slightly confused.
"Oh, I know, I just wasn't sure you'd listen to me, you have a tendency to, you know... Not," Tony explained casually.
"Oh, my apologies," Peter heard a formal accent say from behind him, turning around to see a tall man with black hair slicked back; "I did not expect there to be... Company."
"There's not," Tony corrected quickly; "This is Peter. Peter, this is Loki."
"Nice to meet you, mr. Loki," Peter said quickly, reaching his hand out for a handshake.
Loki eyes his hand without moving a muscle before returning his attention to the boy's face.
"...Pleasure to make your acquaintance," he eventually decided, sounding unsure of his words.
"Oh, yeah, definitely, I mean, you're, you're Loki," Peter told, letting his hand fall back to his side.
"I am aware of the fact, yes," he told stiffly before turning to Tony; "I am only looking for miss Anna."
"Miss Anna is about to leave," Tony told, crossing his arms above his chest.
"Yeah, we're going to get coffee!" Peter told rather excitedly.
"We?" Loki questioned, raising his eyebrows.
"Yeah, I promised Mr. Stark to keep an eye on her and keep her safe," Peter told.
"You?" Questioned Loki, holding back a scoff as he looked at Tony; "He is the only security you have for her?"
"Calm down, Excessive Hair Gel. There's no reason to think she's in immediate danger, and if anything happens, we're ready to move as soon as Peter alerts us," Tony explained with a bored voice.
"And I can definitely protect her," Peter added; "I'm Spiderman."
Loki glanced at him.
"Good. She should be safe then, as long as no villainous being brings a piece of paper and a big cup," he commented, popping the 'p' in cup.
"I'm rea - oh, hey Loki!" Anna interrupted herself as she saw Loki. Her purse was slung over one shoulder, and when she saw Loki she returned his smile.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, walking over to the gathering.
"I merely thought it fit to come wish you a pleasant day," he told her, moving the hand holding the book further behind his back.
"I thought you'd be sleeping by now, you've been up most of the night," Anna commented, still smiling.
"Right, well, as nice as it was of you to stop by, the kids gotta go now," Tony interrupted their chattering.
"Right, we don't wanna be late to drink coffee," Anna pointed out, smiling at Peter.
"Well, caffeine too late isn't exactly a good idea," he pointed out.
"Are you even supposed to drink coffee? You're 15," she commented before turning to Tony and Loki, ignoring Peters mumbles; "I'll see you guys later?"
"'Course," Tony replied at the same time as Loki said; "Most certainly."
"So, know of any good coffee shops around here?" Peter questioned as they stepped out of the tower, suddenly surrounded by the buzzing of New York City.
"Honestly? No, I don't go out a lot," Anna admitted with an awkward laugh; "You?"
"I don't really hang out around here a lot," he told.
"Where do you hang out then?"
"Uh, well, I live down in Forest Hills, you know, Queens? So generally in that area," he explained, slowly walking down the street with her.
"You're kidding? What are you doing in midtown Manhattan then?" Anna questioned.
"Well... This," he explained, laughing softly.
"Right, but what else? You didn't commute all the way here to get coffee, did you? Queens cafe's really that bad?" she joked.
"Well, it's not that bad of a commute for me. You know, all considered. I come here plenty often, mostly to work with Tony but I actually have a friend who lives not too far away from here. Thinking about it, we actually went to a coffee shop around here that was pretty cool," he suddenly remembered, looking around him as he tried to remember the way.
"Looks like there's no free tables," Anna pointed out as they entered, looking around them.
"There's one over there," Peter quickly realised, nodding at the last free table.
"Oh, great. If you go sit I'll get us the coffee," she offered; "What do you want?"
"Oh, no, no, I should, I mean-"
"Don't worry, Tony gave me his card. It's on him," she told smilingly.
"Right. Uh, a black coffee?" he asked.
"Got it, I'll be right back." Glancing around her again, she walked towards the counter, quickly ordering a large black coffee as well as a latte. She swiped the card before turning around, seeing Peter arguing with someone, both their voices a whisper. His brown hair was combed neatly and separated in the middle, and covering his stomach was a t-shirt with a monster on it. Over that he had a chequered button-up shirt entirely unbuttoned.
"Ned, this is not just hanging out!" Anna could make out as she stepped closer to the table; "How did you even know we would be here?!"
"I just wanted to see her! And you said you'd be getting coffee and I knew you'd probably be hear the Avengers Tower so I took the subway there and then just started sorting through places that sells coffee," he explained. Anna straightened out her confused expression as she stepped to the table.
"Hello," she greeted awkwardly. The newcomer looked at her with open mouth, not a single word uttered.
"Uh, hey," Peter greeted, clapping the guys shoulder in; "Anna, this is Ned, Ned, Anna. He's a friend of mine, just happened to stop by."
"Is that a demogorgon on your shirt?" Anna asked with a smile, trying to show an interest in her possible new friend. Ned's eyes widened and he looked between Anna and Peter with his mouth opened.
"You - she - you, you play DnD?!" he asked overly excitedly.
"Oh, I'm sorry, no, I just, uh, Stranger Things," Anna quickly apologised; "I haven't actually tried DnD."
"Oh." Ned's mouth closed disappointedly before he smiled again; "Well, Stranger Things is pretty cool, too."
"It's very cool," Peter agreed with a nod.
"Okay, so, cards on the table, I couldn't help but overhear the last of your conversation," Anna told, raising her hand when Peter opened his mouth; "It's fine, just - how many people know about me?" Anna asked quietly, looking around them to make sure no one was within hearing distance.
"Just Ned, I promise!" Peter quickly replied; "He's my best friend."
"Right," Anna agreed unsurely.
"I won't tell anyone, A-Anna," Ned promised quickly.
"Thanks," she replied dryly, flashing him a quick smile.
"I, uh, I'll go get our coffee. You two can talk," she offered, stepping away again and going back to the counter, waiting for the barista to finish their drinks.
"Now, tell me you're not here alone?" a voice asked her. She turned her head to look at a guy around her age standing next to her. The guy flashed Anna a confident smile, and she couldn't help but smile awkwardly. He was wearing a tight red sweater and black pants as well as a constant confident smile, which suited his face perfectly.
"Excuse me?"
"Then again, why would anyone come here with you?"
"I - excuse me?" Anna repeated, this time more offended than confused.
"Anyone with someone this pretty wouldn't need caffeine to make their heart jump fast," he said, sending her another smile. Anna looked away but couldn't help but laugh anyway.
"Too cheesy?" he asked, leaning against the counter next to her; "I'm sorry. I've never had a chance to use it, thought I'd see if it worked."
"I don't know if cheesy is the word I'd use," Anna told, still smiling.
"No?" he asked surprisedly, raising his eyebrows as he waited for her judgement.
"No. More like..." she looked thoughtful before finishing; "Bad."
"Ouch, that's hurtful, heartbreaker," the guy said, placing his right hand above his heart before reaching it out for a handshake; "I'm Harry."
"Anna," Anna replied, shaking his hand.
"So, coffee?"
"Already ordered. That's why I'm here, waiting for it and not over there, ordering," she explained, looking at him with raised eyebrows.
"You caught me. I just thought you were pretty and wanted to come talk to you," he explained in an obvious tone, making Anna laugh.
"You're sweet," she complimented honestly.
"Sweet enough to earn me another try at a pickup line?" he challenged teasingly.
"I'm going to say yes, but only because I think you've earned it and it can't be worse than the last one," Anna teased.
"I repeat; that's hurtful, heartbreaker. Okay, okay, let me think," he said, looking thoughtful.
"Okay, since we're at a coffee shop," he decided, taking a deep breath before looking at her; "You are finer than the espresso grind they use here."
"If I was at all looking for a boyfriend, you'd be very close to have earned the role," Anna said laughingly; "Not because of that line though, it was really bad, just because I feel bad for you."
"What? Okay, how about this one; you could run the sugar here out of business, you know, since you're so sweet," he tried, earning yet another laugh from Anna.
"How many pickup-lines related to coffee do you have?" she asked; "How many girls do you actually manage to pick up while in class?"
"So far my success rate is a solid zero," Harry admitted; "But, as soon as you say yes it'll hit 100."
"Was that another line or just a lie?" Anna asked, glancing at Harry. He was slightly taller than her, so she had to bend her neck. Taller than Peter, shorter than Loki.
"Neither," he said, sounding honest.
"Oh, come on, I refuse to believe I'm the first girl you've ever used a line on," Anna commented with a laugh.
"If I'd used a line, I probably would have had a girlfriend," he pointed out.
"What? Why?"
"Because they're so good! I don't think anyone could refuse them but you, you weirdo," he teased. Anna shook her head smilingly but didn't reply.
"We'd have to go out on three dates," she said suddenly.
"I'm all in, but why?" Harry asked.
"Well you used three lines. For a hundred percent success rate, wouldn't each need to have gotten you a date?" Anna pointed out.
"Americano and latte for Anna," the barista called out, placing the coffees on the counter. Anna picked them up before looking back at Harry.
"No way, Anna and Anna is the same name?" he joked
"You're good with spelling, I see," she complimented.
"Yeah. And, I'm no mathematician, but I'm pretty good with numbers. Tell you what, give me yours and watch what I can do with it."
"They're getting better," Anna admitted.
"Oh come on, no luck? Okay, well, if I had to rate you from one to ten, I'd give you a nine because I'm the one you're missing," he tried. Anna couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the attractive guy standing in front of her and his constant stream of pick up lines, which she refused to admit was actually pretty funny.
"Okay, okay, are you a 45-degree angle? Because you're a-cutie," he tried instead.
"I should go," she said when she stopped laughing.
"Okay, okay, I get it," Harry said, a playful smirk reaching his lips; "But before you do, do you want to have lunch? On the menu is Me-N-U."
"Very cute, I'll admit..." Anna said.
"I thought so," Harry agreed.
"But I'm actually with a friend," she finished.
"Ohhh, no, you're only allowed to have one friend?" he teased.
"Actually, I'm allowed two, but both positions are currently filled," Anna shot back playfully.
"Right. What about the position of boyfriend?" Harry suggested; "Kidding, kidding. But you promise you really have a partner and aren't just rejecting me because my ruggedly handsome looks aren't doing it?"
"No, believe it or not, the two coffees I have are not just because I'm thirsty. My friend is sitting over there," she told, nodding at Peter.
"You're kidding! You know Peter?" he exclaimed surprised, looking at her.
"You know Peter?" she replied, equally surprised.
"Yes, he's a friend of mine. That's great, I'll just go order a coffee and then I'll join you guys," Harry suggested; "Unless you mind, of course?"
"Not at all," Anna replied quickly.
