Chapter 2

Dally's POV:

I was watching tv on the Curtis' couch. I let my mind wander to the point where I wasn't even paying attention to the television. My mind drifted, but always found a way back to one topic: Johnny. Oh Johnny.  His greasy hair that covered his eye perfectly. Although he probly didn't try, he always seemed to be the hottest of the group. Whenever other people are around and Johnny is there too, I don't pay any attention to anything but him. He might not feel the same way, but I know I love him. But he'll never know; even if I do one day tell the gang that I'm gay, Johnny's straight and I wouldn't want to make our friendship uncomfortable. Besides, if we do go out at some point, well, you know what happens to a group of friends when two people within the group start dating eachother.

I let out a sigh, thinking no one else was in the room.  Darry was in the kitchen putting groceries away. "Something botherin' you?" He asked.

"No." I answer, inadvertently letting a bit of emotion into my voice.

"Cmon. You can tell me what's wrong."

"I'm fine." I say sharply.

There was a brief silence. "Really?"

"Yeah. I'm fine." I said harshly.

"Cmon, man. What's goin on in that head of yours?"

"I don't wanna talk about it."

"You can tell me. I got ya!" He leaned on the couch and patted my shoulder.

"You're gonna hate me for it." I say. "You won't wanna be near me no more."

"What is it? It's obviously eatin you up, Dal. Maybe you need to tell someone."

"I tell it to myself all the time."

"That doesn't count." Darry stepped in front of me and put his hands on my shoulders. "Tell me what's wrong."

"Fine." I look at my feet. "The thing is,........" Tears started welling in my eyes, forcing me to stop or I'd start sobbing. I knew what would happen the moment I told Darry; he'd tell me to get out of the house and never come back. "I-I like guys." I can't bring my eyes up to meet his face. I squeezed my eyes shut.

I felt Darry release my shoulders. I managed to look up and saw him staring into space deep in thought and chewing his bottom lip.

"I know. I know." I stood up and started to leave with my eyes trained on the ground.  My chest felt like it was full of cotton. A sob was lodged in my throat.

"Hey, wait." Darry called after me.

I turn around slowly.

"So....... You're gay?"

"No shit, Sherlock." I said.

He ran a hand through his hair. "Sorry. That was a little rude."

"S'okay."

"Umm. I think that's fine. As long as you don't go hitting on us or something."

I narrowed my eyes. "You think?"

"I-I gotta ask my mom about it."

My eyes grew wide. "No! Don't tell anyone!" I felt wetness on my cheeks. Shit. I'm crying.

"Uh, okay. I'll just..... Forget about it than."

"Thanks man."
