Johnny's POV:
He's gay.
Of course he's gay!
Two-bit stumbled in the morning after and said that Dally hooked up with some guy. It was a very long conversation that ended when Dally walked in.
"Are you really gay?" Pony asked up front and I legit thought Dally was gonna smack him because he stopped abruptly and his cheeks went a tiny bit pink. But then he ignored Pony's comment and helped himself to some food.
"How'd it go with that broad I saw you go up with, Two?" He asked.
"Didn't happen. Turned out she wasn't on the pill."
"Good call," Soda said, "we already have enough Twos runnin' around here!"
Two gave the younger boy a friendly punch in the arm and turned to Dally. "So how'd it go with what's-his-face?"
Dally smirked. "We got ca-razy! Plus, his-"
"Hey! Hey! We don't need to know that! There're children present!" Darry exclaimed, putting his hands over Pony's ears.
Pony pushed his brother's hands away and asked, "so how does that work exactly? I mean, without the girl and their, um, girlness."
Dally laughed. "How does it work WITH the girlness."
"Well, see, girls have-" Steve started, but Dally smacked him on the back of his head.
"I know how it WORKS, dumbass!"
"Then why'd you ask?"
"You, sir, are a hopeless moron."
Steve put Dally in a chokehold and Dally pushed him off, both of them laughing.
I stood up. "'Scuse me, I need some fresh air." I went outside and sat on the porch.
Don't get me wrong; I'm perfectly fine with Dal's sexuality. It's me I have a problem with. The moment I found out, I had this brief moment of excitement and joy, followed by a wave of nausea; my whole life I've been told it's not okay to be gay. Maybe I find it okay for other people to be gay, but it's not okay for me to feel this way, if that makes any sense at all.
I didn't hear Dally sneak up on me. "Got a weed?" He asked.
I jumped. "Sorry. Fresh out."
He nodded and chewed his bottom lip. "You okay, man?"
"I'm fine." I looked down at my hands in my lap.
He sat down next to me. "No I mean you seemed a little... Irritated just now."
My eyes grew wide. "Oh no! I'm perfectly fine with that! Ain't nothing wrong with a person being gay."
I thought I saw a little smile appear on his face, then he cleared his throat and looked me in the eyes with those beautiful blue irises. My heart fluttered. "Good." He said. "'Cause I ain't changin'."
"How did you figure it out?" I asked.
"Same as anyone; saw a guy one day who was a real hottie. He was straight, though. And like, ten years older than me."
I know pretty much anyone else would've told him about the dream right then, but I didn't want to bring it up; we were almost as close as brothers, and I doubt Dal's into me. But when I shyly met his eyes once more, I couldn't help it; I leaned in and crashed my lips against his. To my surprise, he kissed back. He put one hand on my back and the other in my hair. I mimicked the action. Our chests were flat against each other. We kissed hungrily and passionately until we had to come up for air.
We both smiled at each other like idiots for a minute.
"So, uh, we a couple now?" Dally asked.
A weird feeling in my gut made my smile disappear. "No." I replied.
Dally looked hurt. "No?"
"No. I mean... I don't know." I shook my head and looked away. "I just... Need some time and space to figure myself out."
He nodded. "Okay. Yeah. Sure. Take all the time you need, Johnnycake."
"Y-you're a good kisser, though." I said. "And I think you're gonna make someone a very lucky man someday."
"You're not bad yourself." For a second I actually thought he was gonna cry. I gave him a pat on the beck. Damn. I guess he really loved me.
The only problem was that I didn't know whether or not I loved him back.
