Inko couldn't think straight. She wasn't able to focus after the news. Something was nagging at her, deep down.
She didn't know Endeavor as good as some of the other heros--Izuku was obsessed with All Might as a kid but he also talked about a bunch of other heros. However Inko couldn't remember Izuku ever specifically talking about the fire hero.
She slowly walked unto her room and unhooked her phone from the plug.
She needed to read more about Endeavor. This event was bigger than the news showed.
She Googled the Number Two Hero and a plethora of articles popped up immediately.
"Endeavor, Civillin name: Enji Todoroki, was recently in a fight against the villain, Dabi, however the sheer powerful force of Dabi's flames were able to incinerate--"
Enji Todoroki?
Todoroki? That sounded eerily familiar to Inko. She set her phone down and then got on her bed, leaning on the headrest.
She closed her eyes, thinking about where she could've heard that name before.
There was knock at Inko's door. She slowly made her way to the ground floor and looked through the peep hole. Excitedly, she flung open the door and embraced her baby in a hug.
Izuku was back home!
"Izu, baby I missed you! I'm so happy you decided to visit again!!"
"Hey mom! I missed you so much as well!" There was a slight pause, I which Inko pulled away and looked at their surroundings, having spotted a but of red from the corner of her eye. "I uh, I also brought my friend over, we met at UA! His name is Shoto Todoroki--though I'm sure you recognized the name--and I noticed he hadn't left the dorms in a while so I asked him about it and he said he didn't wanna go home. So I asked if he wanted to meet you and try your soba--you make some of the best soba--and he agreed!" There was a silence where Izuku looked at his mother and then realized he didn't ask her for permission before bringing in his classmate.
Embarrassment flushed his cheeks a light pink.
He felt like a failure--he knew he can't just barge onto his mother's house and bring a guest without asking first.
Dangit dangit dangit!
"Is this--is that okay?" Izuku asked, rubbing the back of his neck.
Slowly Inko blinked before beaming, "Ah Todoroki! I've heard a lot of good things about you! Do you like hugs? I'd like to hug you if you don't mind!"
Inko opened her arms wide and took a small step past Izuku and towards Todoroki. Not enough to make the teen feel cornered, but enough to show a welcoming hug was awaiting.
Slowly Todoroki nodded and hesitantly entered the hug. Izuku sighed in relief as his mother squeezed his friend.
Todoroki had seemingly molded into the hug and began hugging back.
Inko noticed this change in the socially awkward teen and decided to hug Todoroki more in the future.
She then broke off after a few moments and ushered the kids inside. "Time to make the best Soba you've ever had then! Chop chop!"
Inko gasped. Shoto Todoroki.
It all clicked in her mind--her son's friend was the son of Endeavor.
And Endeavor was just killed on live TV.
Inko held in a sob, this was horrible. She didn't know the life Todoroki had, but she had instantly started seeing him as a son the first time Midoriya brought him over. The same thing goes for all of Midoriya's friends though.
She was distraught. The hetochromatic boy must be experiencing so much right now. She just wanted to go comfort him.
Mama bear was back.
Suddenly a ringing cut through the air like shattered glass. Inko's hand fumbled in an attempt to reach her phone. She flipped it over and looked at the contact.
Aizawa.
She accepted the call and put it on speaker before sitting up straight and focusing her attention on the call.
Almost immediately, the sound of a faint engine was heard.
"Mrs. Midoriya?" Aizawa said, his voice gruff yet strained.
"Ye--yes." She answered.
"We have knew news on your son's suspected whereabouts. An anonymous source stated he might be in Nichibotsu forest near Hosu. Currently, search teams are being sent out. If we find him, you'll be the first to know." She heard the steady ticking of a turn signal through the phone.
After a short silence, Inko spoke once more.
"Okay, thank you so much. It really means a lot that you're trying to find Izuku." Her eyes were watering slightly. She finally felt comfortable letting Izuku go to school. The relationships between UA and their students was beautiful. The teachers cared. The staff cared. Everyone cared about everyone.
She never felt completely safe letting Izuku go to school before UA. She felt the previous schools gave off bad vibes but was unable to transfer Izuku. She also had no information or evidence to bring up her concerns to the principal.
UA was a blessing. She felt her baby was safe.
And Izuku was noticeably happier in UA.
So many friends were made too. Much more than his previous school.
"No problem. He's a good kid."
There was another silence as both though about Izuku.
Then Inko's train of thought returned to her son's friend. The poor boy lost his friend and his father within a short time of each other.
"How is Todoroki doing? I saw the news." Inko blurted, unable to contain her worry over the duel-haired boy.
Aizawa was taken aback. "You...you know Shoto Todoroki?" This was definitely not where he thought this conversation was headed.
"Yes, Izuku brought him over a few times for dinner and to hang out. They were close." She explained, blushing in embarrassment as she realized how nosey she sounded.
"Ah..." Another short pause settled in as Aizawa thought of how to articulate his words. "He hasn't been seen out of his room since Midoriya went missing--he hasn't let me inside however his friend group has helped him emotionally. I haven't been able to see how he is dealing with the latest news. I'm on my way to UA right now."
Aizawa bit his lip as the traffic began getting thicker and he pressed his foot on the breaks.
"Oh, the poor boy," Inko began. "Is there anyway I can visit him? And Katsuki too? Actually, can I simply visit the whole class? I think they need a group hug." Inko loved hugs and was a firm believer that hugs were a close step towards healing.
She knew how horrible the world was, and how sad these past few days have been. She wanted to make sure everyone was okay.
A group hug would suffice. Though, she felt guilty for inviting herself to UA. She didn't want to take up everyone's time and annoy them.
But she hasn't had a hug in so long. The last time was the weekend before Hero Studies. Izuku had came and visited, including the immortal hug that only family members have the ability to give.
She missed his warm hugs.
She loved his warm hugs.
Aizawa mulled the request over, and deeming it beneficial for Todoroki's mental state, agreed. Having and adult Todoroki knows outside of UA would be good. Afterall, his mother was still in the mental hospital and deemed unfit to take full custody of Todoroki.
Todoroki was still a minor, meaning he needed a parent that was stable--
specifically stable in the eyes of the court systems.
Inko sighed in relief. And both adults agreed she could enter UA around four PM--the equivalent of approximately an hour and fourty minutes.
Inko thanked Aizawa once more before both hung up. She then got up and wondered around her house for a few minutes.
Without Izuku her house seemed so dull.
With Izuku deemed missing, the house seemed downright despondent.
Inko gasped, thinking of a wonderful idea.
She could make cookies for the class as a pick-me-up.
The kiddos would definitely need it.
