Chapter 10 - End

(Edited - 21/5/17)

Paddy and Stripes became nothing but black spots on the wheat fields, far enough to avoid the current danger.

Frost stared at the aura dragon, scrutinising it with narrowed eyes. It turned to her, its eyes swirling with purple orbs that sought to destroy.

She gripped her enchanted diamond sword tightly as the dragon charged, purple flames spilling out of its jaws. She dived out of the way as it crashed, sending rocks and dirt flying.

Trance was watching nearby, with a grin on his face, as if he was enjoying it.

Frost let out a deep sigh and held up her sword. The aura dragon roared and lashed at her with sharp claws.

In response, she ducked and sliced off its claw. A horrifying roar followed, but the claw somehow grew back.

"Did that do anything?" Frost muttered, keeping her gaze fixed on the angered dragon.

"Obviously it did," Fern sighed, exasperated, her voice ringing in Frost's head. "By the way, watch out for that breath attack!"

The winged dragon unleashed a powerful rush of purple flames from its jaws. Frost quickly dodged as the flames scorched the ground she was standing on a few seconds ago.

"See, this is what happens when you daydream," Fern continued disapprovingly. "Oh, why am I talking? Let's kill that thing already."

Frost nodded.

With a flap of its mighty wings, the aura dragon flew until it was facing her at equal eye level.

Blue and purple eyes met, surveying each other. Frost slowly lifted her sword, her stance unwavering as it ignited with a dark blue flame that surrounded the sword.

"Your little magic trick can't stop me!" Trance shouted, his eyes wild. "Kill her!"

The dragon became surrounded with blazing purple flames and charged with a terrifying roar that could send fear into the bravest souls.

"Bring it on."

Frost moved the sword in an upward arc, striking the aura dragon's lower jaw. Time seemed to slow down as the dragon was knocked back by the power of the sword. It let out a roar, collapsing.

"No!" Trance screeched.

As the aura dragon slowly fell, it started to fade away. When it hit the ground, the ground cracked and split into two.

The gorge that formed caused Trance to lose his balance. He tripped and found himself falling into the darkness of the abyss, along with the vanishing aura dragon.

Meanwhile, Fern reappeared beside Frost, who dropped to the ground, panting.

Paddy and Stripes ran towards her, their eyes reflecting relief.

"Frost!" the tuxedo cat called.

Frost managed a smile. "Stripes... Paddy, it's nice to see you again."

Paddy was trembling with emotion as he stopped by her side. "I... thought you were dead..."

Her face fell. "I am dead. When humans die, we go to an afterlife, where we can watch the people living below. I'm actually not supposed to intervene in the living world."

Fern suddenly burst into laughter. "Ahahaha! The fact you did is so amusing, considering you are the obedient one."

Paddy bristled, narrowing his eyes.

"It's okay, Paddy," Frost said, standing up. "Leave her be."

"Who is she anyway?"

"Umm... it's quite complicated. To put it very simply, Fern's my friend," she responded.

"'Friend' is not the term you should use," Fern said. "It's 'partner'."

"Sure, whatever you want," Frost said. "Well, now that this is over... we will have to leave."

"Leave?" Stripes meowed, dismayed.

"Unfortunately, yes. After we settle some things, we will have to return from where we came from. You and Paddy will have to go back to the Kingdom too."

"But-" her meow was cut short when she suddenly felt embraced in a hug. She remembered all the good times she had spent with Frost, and her friends. She was moved by the memory.

The warmth disappeared and Stripes found herself back near the fields.

"I can't really hug you, but I can help you remember your good memories," Frost explained.

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

"T-thank you," Stripes meowed.

"There's a nice sunset we can look at," Paddy cut in. "The sunset always look the best at the fields."

They padded together to get a good view of the sunset. Frost and Fern left them alone, talking among themselves.

"It's too bad that everything has an end," Fern sighed. "I suppose that's why there is a sunset."

"But there's always a sunrise," Frost said. "The mark of the beginning of a new time."

Her gaze turned to Paddy and Stripes and she smiled.
