"YOU GUYS ARE DISGUSTING."
"And you're just jealous."
"Shut up! I'm not fucking jealous," Katsuki unfolded his arms from across his chest to squeeze one of his fists at his side, the other used to grab his luggage behind him as he scowled ahead and at the street in front of the five as the cars passed.
They were waiting to cross and had been for the past four minutes, listening to Todoroki and Midoriya's quiet and tamed flirting, which had sparked Katsuki's comment.
Y/n simply smiled as she looked over her shoulder at Todoroki and Midoriya— it looked like they weren't paying any attention to Katsuki's comment.
They were still speaking quietly, Todoroki had bumped his shoulder against Midoriya's and the latter laughed softly, the corner of his eyes creasing as he tilted his head up with a hum. They were disgusting. Disgustingly cute, that was. Y/n didn't mind and neither did Tokoyami, who was there with them.
Bakugou was the only one who had a problem and he seemed to be that way with anything remotely romantic or sweet. Kind of ironic, considering his secret obsession. Maybe he was both deflecting and projecting in that sense.
Y/n smirked a little, her shoe kicked against the ground, "You just sound like, really mad and offended for some reason? You're kind of getting angry at a couple doing literally nothing other than holding hands," Y/n supposed the fact that both of the people in the couple were at the top of Katsuki's 'Hate Forever' list didn't help in the slightest. It was most likely the reason for his nasty remarks, too.
The same remarks he'd been making since they started traveling together to the site their work studies required them to meet at.
"Are you kidding me. I'm not offended," Katsuki's scoffed, red eyes squinting hard at the cars passing speedily. Y/n could see him getting more annoyed at the fact they hadn't been able to pass yet, "I'm just saying— It's gross. We're here on a mission, not some lovey-dovey honeymoon crap."
Y/n snorted and her laugh turned into a cackle of disbelief, "I— dude? Once again— they're holding hands?" She rolled her eyes, head falling the action for dramatics and exaggeration, "Bakugou Asshole Katsuki is a complete prude, everyone. Who would have thought?"
"I'm not prude. The hell led you to that conclusion anyway, stupid airhead?"
"Well, you're acting like people holdings hands while they're waiting to cross the street is the most scandalous, offensive thing in the world?" The cars came to a stop and the line of the five students dragged their luggage behind them as they crossed. Midoriya and Todoroki were the first ones in the line, Y/n laughing as Katsuki stomped furiously beside her, "You know, what if you were in a relationship? What if someone called your hand-holding with your partner disgusting?"
"We're on a mission."
"That wasn't the question and— What does that even have to do with anything? Again, it's... Hand-holding..."
"Why are you still talking?"
Y/n simply rolled her eyes as they approached the large building that was Endeavor's Agency— the familiar feeling of stepping into a busy area had her skin tingling, buzzing with nerves already.
She always loved doing real hero work— building up to it was always enough to fill her with tension and she was practically vibrating in her skin.
The streets were busy, cars speeding by as fast as they always did— enough for a gust of wind to constantly pass them by briskly, and this time around, it didn't take too long for the number one hero to arrive with the Hawks, the number two.
The latter was as laid back, as usual, index finger raised and expression loose as he casually talked the flame hero's ear off, most likely. Endeavor looked rather annoyed, face rigid and stare colder than usual— he practically shooed the wing-hero away.
Y/n took it upon herself to separate herself from Todoroki, Midoriya, and Katsuki, nearing Tokoyami as Hawks neared the two— she was working under his agency alongside Tokoyami, after all.
"Ah, kids!" Hawks clapped his gloved hands together as he peered through his yellow shades, his blond hair seemed messier than usual.
He blew a lock out of his field of vision, gripping his chin curiously between his fingers with a hum as he took a moment to study both Y/n and Tokoyami. He gestured for them to follow as he drew further away from where Endeavor's own group was standing.
"I missed you guys a bunch, you know! Sorry for calling you out like this, so suddenly, too," His tone was careless and Y/n glanced briefly at Tokyoyami.
They both knew he wasn't genuinely sorry.
"So it's pretty peaceful for the most part, but we do need some tracking help this time around. You know, some important people or whatever— Shouldn't be too much work, though,"
"Tracking." Y/n echoed, shifting her weight on one leg, "Isn't that your job, though? You track, trace— find where these guys are located... And then, that's usually when we come in, right?"
"Oh yeah, sure, spot-on," Hawks gave a closed-eyed smile as he carelessly waved, "Except you guys become pros in a few months. Once you get real missions, there comes a time you'll have to do all the tracking and tracing— It's a part of the job, you know? Whether in a group with others for a larger investigation or as a group of three to track a thief— you gotta learn the basics at some point. Understood?"
Y/n nodded, "Understood."
Hawks returned the nod with a wink before he turned to Tokoyami.
He groaned and held out his arms, wiggling his fingers, "My star pupil, you've hardly said a word!" Y/n's brows raised at the inequality—disappointed, but not surprised. "You feeling okay? Don't tell me you skipped out on your happy seeds this morning,"
Y/n held in a snort, the tips of her fingers pressed against her forehead as she slowly shook her head. Tokoyami had a similar reaction. He kept his arms crossed, annoyed as ever as he muttered something about Hawks being obnoxious and loud. Typical.
And of course, the most Hawks did was place his hands on his hips and give a hearty laugh— he reminded Y/n of a dad. A spectacular dad that was kind of lacking when it came to actual parenting, and excelling in areas of likability and trust. Strangely specific, strangely fit for him. He cleared his throat, glancing over his shoulder to look at Endeavor and his group and turning back around to point to some place behind Y/n and Tokoyami.
"Alright— You guys need to check yourselves into that Motel over there," Hawks leaned close to lend them both a small yellow sticky note with an address on it, which was kind of irrelevant, considering he'd just shown them the building. Precaution, Y/n supposed, "So. We've booked the rooms; Each has two beds so figure that situation out amongst your happy-go-lucky selves, alright? We'll send you the meeting time and details, got it?"
"Got it!" Tokoyami and Y/n spoke at the same time— different levels of enthusiasm, granted.
Hawks grinned at the both of them in the typical 'I'm proud of you guys' way he always did, which most often happened after a difficult mission. He snapped his fingers and sent them a small wave before turning to Endeavor just as the flame hero finished up his own talk with his work-study students.
Midoriya, Todoroki, and Katsuki had just been shooed away and ushered over, it seemed like. Midoriya's green eyes were trained on the small notepaper, gaze intense and harder than it needed to be as he scanned the address. Todoroki's expression maintained its neutrality, though his eye did twitch every few seconds and Y/n was sure he couldn't hold in his twitches of annoyance and irritation that came from talking to his father.
The thought made her laugh. And Katsuki was glaring into the distance as deadly as he usually did, most likely promising anyone who dared share his same air, that they'd end up in a casket if Katsuki were to find out about it.
"L/n, Tokoyami! Motel rooms are kind of exciting, aren't they?"
Y/n held back a strange look in favor of laughing softly, "Ah—sure, Midoriya. I guess they are pretty exciting?" She received a look from Todoroki, as if he was telling her to not encourage his behavior.
"So Endeavor told us there would be two beds in each room, which means someone would have to share a bed. Shouto and I will share a bed since it'll be the most comfortable for all of us... And then I was thinking Kacchan and Tokoyami could be in the same room as each other for less drama. You know, since they don't have any issues with each other."
"Oh, so you think Airhead and I are fucking drama? What the hell,"
Y/n scoffed, rolling her eyes and squinting them into a hard glare at Katsuki, "Uh, we kind of are drama. And it's really hard not to be when it's you I have to deal with. You're like, the biggest asshole on the planet, you know."
This time, Katsuki scoffed, "Ha. You think I'm the problem here?"
"You're always the problem."
"Fucking regardless, I'd rather share a room with you," Katsuki bent a little lower at his knees and put a little more irritation and aggression into dragging his luggage, letting Y/n's remark slide this time, "No offense to the bird."
Tokoyami mumbled from behind, "No offense taken."
Midoriya and Y/n exchanged looks before Y/n frowned at Katsuki, "Why would you share a room with me? We were just arguing— You really think that's a smart idea? I could see the results now, it'll be disastrous and then you'll be mad in the end, even though it will have been your fault to begin with. But of course—you'll blame it on me 'cause I'm always at fault, and then that'll be another problem in itself."
"God, would you shut up?"
"Isn't L/n right, though?" Midoriya lifted a brow and made a strange face at Katsuki, "You two sharing a room is a bad idea. You're willingly throwing yourself into a bad situation. You've never had any problems with Tokoyami so why don't you just—"
"Oh my—you shut up too, Deku. Nobody even asked you! Listen: L/n's the best sleeper in the class, you idiots." Katsuki explained as they made it to the entrance of the hotel. He paused to face the rest, face scrunching, "Birdy's fine and all, but Dark Shadow has some weird-ass sleeping habits. During those sleepovers you asses force us to go to, I'm always awake cause that shadow is causing a ruckus. Airhead and Roundface are the quietest sleepers; Probably has somethin' to do with the air and their quirks. Whatever the hell it is, I need silence if I'm gonna perform my best during the mission. L/n and I are gonna share a room 'cause she's silent."
He stared at the rest, waiting for the objections and ready to shoot down any arguments, counters, and complaints. When they had all kept their mouths shut, Katsuki rolled his eyes and turned on his heel with a satisfied nod to check in to their rooms.
Y/n dragged her feet as she followed with an irritated groan, "So he's a light sleeper? That sucks."
Midoriya nodded beside her, face pulled in sympathy, "Yeah... He actually used to complain about me all the time when we had sleepovers," Midoriya grimaced, holding the door open for Todoroki and Tokoyami.
Y/n smiled, "What, do you talk in your sleep?" She could imagine his mumbling habit being a thing even when he was unconscious.
"Apparently. And a lot, too I, guess. I can never remember what I'm dreaming, so I have no idea what I could be talking about? I'm not even sure if they're actual words—it's actually very unlikely that I talk in complete and coherent sentences that make sense if I'm narrating anything that's happening in my dream. Dreams almost never make sense and it's rare for the complete 'storyline' in our dreams to not be completely bizarre and random. You know, since our dreams are combinations of messages of what our subconscious mind is trying to tell us, and what we've seen during the day or week. Sometimes these things will actually—"
"Izuku, love," Todoroki smiled and gently pushed Midoriya forward by the shoulders, "Let's get checked in okay?"
"Oh, right, okay! I was rambling—sorry about that!"
"That's alright. For the record, you do speak in coherent sentences while you sleep sometimes. It doesn't happen a lot, but when you do, they're very long and difficult ones. Most of the time, you seem to be reciting something about All Might. Maybe from all of those documentaries, you're so obsessed with."
"Really? Wait, that's kind of weird? Reciting, huh... Hey, do you think you could record me the next time it happens? I think I'd like to study that..."
Y/n held in a laugh, looking over to accept her keycard from Katsuki, who had already checked all of them in with Tokoyami while they were busy listening to Midoriya's informational dream tangent. She nodded at Katsuki in thanks, holding the thin card between her finger, humming softly at the number.
"We're room 258. That's so cute."
Katsuki shot her a look, "Cute," He raised a brow, "What the hell do you mean cute?"
"Oh, don't worry," Y/n simply shrugged as she walked ahead, a smug smile pulling at her lips, "I wouldn't expect you to get it."
Katsuki looked at her back, watched the rest follow after her, and shook his head in confusion, "The hell does that even mean?"
you guys are so sweet 😊♡
