03. Betrayed

ROSALIE'S VISION TURNED RED as the blood ran down her face, though who's blood was unknown. She could hear Yelena groaning from next to her, as well as sharp footsteps approaching. She tried to move but a sharp pain caused her to cry out. She could feel herself becoming dizzy and that's when she realized the car had flipped upside down. "Yelena!" She hissed, calling out to the blonde next to her. "Are you alright?" She tried to keep her voice quiet and steady as she continued to move slowly, trying to find a way out. New voices were coming from outside the raging fire and more heavy footsteps encircled them.
"Shit!" Yelena swore as she twisted to look at Rosalie. "What happened?" Her eyes were wide with panic and fear.
Rosalie gulped, her throat painfully dry. "Someone ambushed us," She huffed. She twitched at the sound of multiple cocking guns.
"Rosie!" A familiar voice called out. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up. Yelena tilted her head in confusion. "I'm very disappointed in you."
"Wyatt Foster," Rosalie seethed. Her blood ran cold.
"Who?" Yelena questioned.
Rosalie clenched her jaw. "We have to get out of here,"
"How?" Yelena huffed. "There must be a least ten armed men out there!"
"And?" Rosalie tilted her head. "That's child's play for a former Widow,"
Yelena narrowed her eyes — she knew Rosalie was right. Painfully reaching her arm, she unbuckled the seat belt and fell to the ceiling of the car, now on the ground. Rosalie followed her lead. At the sound of movement, Wyatt became excited. "You're a traitor, Rosie. Do you know that?" He teased. "You were supposed to recruit the Widows, not help them."
Rosalie couldn't help herself. "What you want to do to them is wrong, Foster!" The man simply chuckled. Rosalie's blood was boiling as something dawned on her. "You knew I wouldn't go through with this, didn't you?"
"Of course I did!" Wyatt laughed loudly. "I knew you'd want to see sweet little Yelena again and lead us right to the Widows hiding spot," Yelena's head snapped to Rosalie in shock. "You've been a great help, Rose, but now you're an enemy of the state and I have no other choice but to execute you."
Rosalie chuckled darkly. "Is that your plan?"
"You've got no leverage, Mai," Wyatt was starting to become impatient, Rosalie could tell. "It's just you and blondie. You can't get out of this."
Rosalie remained silent. She looked at Yelena. "Any way you could contact the others to help us out?"
Yelena shook her head. "No," She sighed. "But I've got a gun." She smiled slowly.
"So do I," Rosalie patted her thigh. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"Shoot our way out or die trying," Yelena nodded.
"Damn right," Rosalie quickly grabbed her gun and turned the safety off. Yelena did the same. The women squeezed each other's hands before kicking out their respective car doors. They came out shooting wildly. Rosalie could count at least ten armed soldiers as Yelena predicted and behind them with a megaphone stood Wyatt. Immediately, two men went down, while eight others continued shooting. The women ducked behind the front of the car and checked their ammo. "How much you got?" Rosalie was breathing heavily.
"Enough," Yelena concluded as she glanced over her shoulder. "Their advancing."
"You can't get out of this, Rosalie! Just surrender now and I might not kill you as painfully as I had planned!" Wyatt called from behind.
Rosalie gritted her teeth. "I've had enough of him," She didn't wait for Yelena as she charged forward, rugby slamming one of the armed soldiers and bringing him to the ground. She removed a knife from her boot and stabbed him swiftly in the neck. Seven left to go. She heard more gunshots and as she turned, Yelena had taken down two more on her own. Five.
"Rosalie! Watch out!" Yelena called as she ducked out of the way.
Rosalie wasn't quick enough. Pain shot through her skull as the butt of a gun slammed into the side of her head. Groaning, she fell to the ground and a boot placed itself on her neck. "Stay down, agent," The armed man warned. Rosalie looked up to stare down the barrel of his gun. It was all but too late when she realized both her gun and knife had fallen from her hands. In her peripherals, she could see Yelena fighting four of the men on her own. There was no way Rosalie was getting help but she saw no way of getting out of this on her own. She didn't want to give up, yet at that moment, death was almost wanted and she didn't know why.
She didn't get too long to think on that thought as the man suddenly began choking. His foot released itself from her neck as he fell back, flailing. Coughing, Rosalie moved quickly, grabbing her gun and knife and snapping back of her feet. "What the hell..." She looked down at the now dead man, a small knife lodged in his neck.
"It sounded like you two could use some help!" The new voice came from none other than Irina, who was running up to Rosalie, gun aimed at the four, no, three now, that Yelena was fighting. With a shot, it became two and soon none, as Yelena easily finished them off. Rosalie noticed too late that Wyatt had run off
admit the fighting.
Rosalie sighed, the pain setting in once more as the rested her hands on her knees. "Thanks, Irina," She smiled the best she could at the Widow.
Yelena came jogging over, equally, if not more, tired. "What just happened?" She breathed. "Who was that man, Rosie?"
Rosalie's stomached clenched. "Wyatt Foster. My supervisor and the one that gave me the job to track you all down," She winced as she stretched her limbs. She felt the wound on her thigh reopen. "But I guess he really sent me here so he'd have an excuse to kill me."
"Why?" Irina gasped softly.
Rosalie shook her head as she breathed in deeply. "I have no idea."
Back at the Widows hideout, Irina helped Rosalie restitch her wound and Yelena didn't say a word as she watched, but when Irina left, she couldn't stop. "How could this happen?" She asked like Rosalie had any clue what the answer was. "Your supervisor wants to kill you?" She was pacing.
"We never really liked each other but I didn't know his hatred ran so deep," Rosalie sighed. She looked around the small and dishevelled living area sadly. "You guys have to leave, don't you?"
Yelena nodded. "They're watching us like," She struggled for the word, snapping her fingers. "...like hawks,"
Rosalie sighed. "This is all my fault," She huffed, ignoring the burning pain in her thigh as she stood. "Me being here puts you in danger, Yelena. I can't...I can't stay."
Yelena knitted her eyebrows. "If you go Foster will kill you. You stay with us."
"Yelena-" Rosalie tried to argue but Yelena put her hand up, stopping her.
"No. There is no use in arguing," She stepped forward and placed her hand on Rosalie's shoulder. "You stay and we fight together. Even if we have to go on the run and hide, you stay."
Rosalie's heart clenched. It was going to be hard losing her feelings for Yelena. "Okay..." She nodded. Agreeing with her was worth it to see the smile that lit Yelena's face up. "What now?"
"We gather our things and leave at dark," Yelena explained.
"Where will we go?" Rosalie asked.
Yelena contemplated her answer for a moment. "There are Widows all over the globe. There should be some willing to help."
Rosalie nodded, but she couldn't help the creeping feeling that something would go wrong. "Sounds good."
