Chapter 5: Summer Job At The Li's

"Princes, lovely to see you."

Wendy stared at JJ with her eyes wide open. She was surprised to see him. He on the other hand displayed a cool exterior smirking at the surprised girl. A number of questions ran through her mind. Before she got the chance to open her mouth, her father's voice entered her ears.

Thankfully, he did not hear what JJ had just said.

"I see you met my daughter. Wendy, this is JJ. I hired him to mow our lawn for the summer." Henrick introduced the two yet their expressions remained the same. "He is such a courteous boy. He just dropped by, politely introduced himself, and offered his services. It saves me the hassle of finding someone to look after our plants and he seems like a very responsible young man too." He patted JJ'c back after earning a mischievous grin on JJ's face.

"It's nice to meet you Ms. Wendy Li." JJ extended his hand for her to shake.

She looked at the boy in disbelief. Instead of shaking his hand, she crossed her arms and pretended to think.

"Wendy...don't be rude dear." Her father warned though she did not pay attention to him.

"You look really familiar, JJ. I think I know you from somewhere...Oh, wait! I do! You were there the day I fell off my bike." She pretended to be surprised.

"Really? When that idiot of a jaywalker decided to block your path?" Henrick asked surprised. "I swear that piece of trash will pay for what he has done to you. He will learn his lesson and he will suffer eightfold. I and my lawyers will make sure of it." He grew low and violent at the thought of the idiot who was responsible for the injury to her daughter's ankle.

JJ's face dropped.

"That guy must face the consequences somehow..." She stared at the increasingly nervous boy with a slight smirk. The ball was in her court now. She knew it. He knew it. They both knew it. JJ regretted using the information that Lis just moved in and was probably looking for a gardener to his advantage. He regretted coming over and introducing himself. He regretted teasing the kook princess who was having fun tormenting him. It showed on his face. JJ had already been in enough trouble for a guy his age. He did not want to add being sued on top of that. "... too bad that I'll probably never see him again. But I am glad to see JJ. He was the one who helped me up and bandaged me." Wendy finished with a smile.

"Really now? That's great to hear!" Henrick looked at JJ in surprise liking him even more now. "Why haven't you mentioned anything?"

"Oh I-I didn't think it was necessary to bring up Mr. Li. I'm just glad that Wendy is alright now." He stammered.

"Well thank you anyways. I am glad that you knocked on this door this afternoon." Henrick smiled before looking at his Swiss watch. "I have to run now. There is something at the office that requires my immediate attention. Wendy can see you out JJ. I'm looking forward to seeing you a lot." He gave JJ a firm shake. "And I'll see you for dinner later." He hugged Wendy goodbye.

"Bye Dad." She hugged him back.

The two teens watched the man in the suit enter his vehicle and drive away before talking.

"...Um, thanks for not ratting me out to your dad by the way. I didn't know he can be that scary. My dad is scary too. He would be scarier if he finds out his son would owe you, folks, money because of a lawsuit" JJ scratched his head awkwardly.

"No need to thank me. I'm still going to get back at you." Wendy confidently said.

JJ made eye contact with her and within milliseconds, his cool demeanor immediately came back. "Oh yeah? What makes you think you can get back at me."

"I'm a very motivated girl, Maybank. You still owe me money, you lied about your name making me embarrass myself to my best friend's boyfriend, you're the cause of my fall, and now you just used me to get you this job."

"I did not use you to get this job", he scoffed.

"Really? I told you I just moved in and it did not work out conveniently for you because you know we would need to hire people to maintain the property?" She narrowed her eyes.

"To be fair. I just used the information you gave me. I don't need to use you, princess. You're not my type."

Wendy's mouth formed into an o while her steams of smoke puffed out of her ears. "Excuse me surfer slash identity thief, you are not my type either!"

JJ laughed hysterically, "I don't know if you know since you just moved here and all, but I'm everyone's type. I'm certainly yours either since you were too distracted by my abs to even notice your wallet was missing the day we met." He winked at the furiously flustered girl.

" No I-Ugh-you" Wendy was at a loss for words trying to find a comeback. Unfortunately, she can only think of a lame one. "Do you even know what courteous means?"

JJ laughed again, "Of course I do." Wendy waited for him to explain. "Okay fine I don't but it does not matter because this courteous fella will be annoying you all summer long, princess."

"Why are you so obsessed with being a nuisance in my life, Maybank? Do you have nothing else to do that you just have to be a bother to people's lives?"

"Oh, you are one feisty kook, aren't you? Maybe I was wrong. Maybe you are my type."
