Chapter 5
Leaning back in his seat, he finally looks around at his surroundings. He was sat in the middle seat in the row, the worst seat in his opinion. To his left was a lady, who couldn't have been older than thirty, on the phone talking in what sounded like mandarin. To his right there was a boy, who only looked about a year or two older, playing on a Nintendo DS.
David peeked over the boy's shoulder to see what game he was playing. This action didn't go unnoticed by the older, who turned his head to look back at the younger. "You wanna play?" The boy said in English in which David responded with a small nod as he took a closer look at the boy. He either had black or just very dark brown hair. It was parted in the middle of his forehead and the bangs were ever so slightly curled.
The boy had dark brown eyes but when the sun hit them it looked almost a light brown.
"I'm sorry. I should've introduced myself first. I'm Sage Kühn. I'm sixteen years old. What's your name?"
"I'm David Martinez. I'm fifteen years old." David was shaking slightly. He hoped his English was good. Sage smiled at him,
"I'm guessing that you live in Lalín, right? I'm just guessing because of your accent that you're Spanish. I'm sorry if I'm wrong." Sage said in Spanish which surprised the younger.
"Umm... Yeah. Where are you from? Your accent makes me think you're not Spanish. That and the fact that you were talking in English earlier. Sorry if I'm wrong." David let out a chuckle.
Sage played with the settings on the DS as he answered David's question. "You're right. I'm from Los Angeles aka the city we're heading to. I was visiting Lalín to visit my best friend, Remi."
The familiar name made David do a double take. Were they thinking about the same Remi? The one that befriended Cody almost instantly? Is that why Remi didn't come camping with them? "Remi? Does he have pink hair and a dog named Elaine?" David accidentally said out loud. He didn't mean to ask that question.
"Yeah. How did you know? What are you some sort of stalker?" The older laughed lightly and handed his DS to David so he could play. David looked at the game, it turned out be Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. He smiled as he saw the game was in Spanish, meaning he wouldn't have to worry about asking Sage about what certain words meant.
"You can start a new save file on it. I always bring this copy so then Remi can play it but, he won't mind if you delete the save file. He calls this game his 'replay game' meaning that he restarts the game everytime he plays it." The black haired boy put back the other copy of the game and watched David as he took the personality test.
"Yeah, I know Remi because he is friends with one of my friends, Cody." He carried on the conversation as he continued playing the game. He enjoyed the boy's company. "Oh, the boy with longer brown hair and hazel eyes? Remi couldn't stop talking about him."
"Yep. That's him. Although him and Remi are good friends, we've barely hung out with Remi. It's not that we don't like him, we've invited him to hangout with us every time we've invited Cody. It's just that Cody usually likes have personal talks with him which I understand and respect. Although, it would be nice if he talked to us for a change." David had to stop his rant or else he was afraid he would say somethings he might regret. Don't get him wrong. Remi was a good person but, David didn't understand what Remi had that they didn't. David would admit, he was a little jealous of the pink haired boy. Why couldn't Cody come to them for advice? Was it because there was too many of them? Did he only want to talk to one person? If so, why didn't he just ask?
He snapped out of his thoughts when he noticed that Pokémon were attacking him. "Isn't it obvious?" Sage started as he pointed to which attack David should use. "Remi likes Cody and it's possible that Cody likes Remi but, I wouldn't know about that last part."
The blonde haired boy hummed out, "You really think so?" in which the older only replied with a "Of course! It's at least plain as day that Remi has a crush on Cody." The two boys continued to talk about trivial things from videogames to their personal lives. He found out that Remi used to live in America but, moved to Lalín last year and that the pink haired boy knew German.
After an exhausting sixteen hour flight, they finally landed in LA. When they landed, it was close to eleven pm. The two boys stuck with each other because they both were traveling alone and had become fond of one another. What they didn't expect was Sage's parents also being the people who were taking David in while he was in America. Apparently, Sage wasn't told about this as he left for Lalín before they made the decision. But then again, Sage wasn't complaining. He now had someone that felt like a little brother to him since Remi left.
David smiled as he greeted Mr and Mrs. Kühn. "We're so happy that you two already met and get along or else it would've been very awkward to explain to Sage. Now, come on let's go home. You guys must be exhausted." They led their way to their car and began their drive home.
David smiled to himself as he looked over to see Sage sleeping. Maybe going to America wasn't going to be that bad.
