1. What inspired you to write When the Petal Fell

I was running through ideas for my next story set in my "Patrons' World" and I just continued with an idea I had while writing "The Road After." I had inserted a bridge, inspired by "Babylon 5", the '90s Sci-Fi series, into that story and decided to put a murder mystery into it. It all just really rolled from that "B5 in a fantasy world" thought.

2.  What do you like about writing fantasy?

That I can do practically anything. It's my world, so I can write any story I want to. Within reason, of course. I have to have it so that it follows some kind of order like the magic system has to make sense and such. But, so long as it makes sense within that world and is consistent, I can write anything. I've done stories based on Westerns, Samurai epics, murder mystery, and a road trip. Anything goes ... so long as it makes sense.

3.  How did you feel when you found out you won in your genre for the Sunflower Awards?

I dunno. I always feel like a kind of fraud amongst such good writers, but it's always a massive compliment that someone likes my work.

4. Do you have any advice for other writers?

Only the same one I always give. LOL. Just write. That's all. It doesn't matter if it's a few words or a few hundred or more. Just write. One word after the other. And write for yourself. The only true opinion that matters is yours. If you enjoy writing, it doesn't matter if someone does or doesn't like it. Only yours and your enjoyment in putting words down and creating that story.

 5. Who is your favorite character in your story and why?

It's a toss-up, really. I love Rifnarus, that cool, unflappable political genius. And Cierene. And Sora. And Klaron. I love them all. Oh, and Piriszd has a special place in my heart, too.

6. What does your writing process look like?

I write twice a day (almost) every day for about an hour-and-a-half to two hours, each session. I write one story during weekdays and a different one over weekends, just to keep things fresh and to stave off stagnation.

7.  What is your favorite fantasy book?

Tolkien, obvs. And Weiss & Hickman's Dragonlance stories. And Terry Pratchett's works. Those all stick in my mind.

 8. When did you start writing and why did you start?

I started writing very young, around six, but I never wrote anything more than short stories and a couple of chapters. I always wanted to write. Always. Only, I never stuck to it until Jan 2020 and I just haven't stopped since.

9. What inspires you to write?

Wanting to write. All the story ideas that keep tumbling around in my head. So many, I doubt I'll ever even start most of them. That's what makes me write. Those story ideas are *very* demanding.

 10. Do you have a favorite poem? What is it?

I'm afraid not. I like poetry, but I don't go out of my way to read it. I guess, at a push, I could say Shakespeare's Sonnet to a dark lady. It's about the only one I have lines memorized.
