@ashtenrenee

Today we interview ashtenrenee, winner of The Sunflower Awards 3.0 in the New Adult genre. Join us as we learn more about their writing style and inspiration.

🌻

1. What inspired you to write Escaping the Past?

I was listening to a Little Mix song, and I had this story playing out in my head of two souls in love, but the world couldn't know. They had to fight to keep their love a secret until the very end. Ya....I think the story went down a different path there. Kinda.

2. What do you like about writing New Adult?

I love that you're writing about characters who are still trying to discover who they are while attempting to find their footing in this crazy game we call life.

3. How did you feel when you found out you won in your genre for the Sunflower Awards?

Honestly, surprised. I'm not confident when it comes to my writings, and I knew the participants I was competing with were just as, if not even more, talented. I honestly didn't think I would even place in the awards.

4. Who is your favorite character in your story and why?

Valerie! Her sassy self is who I want to strive to be. And you'll get more of her sassy-sarcastic-witted self in Escaping the Truth.

5. Who is your favorite character in a fictional story and why?

She's probably a popular fictional character, but I absolutely adore Luna Lovegood. She shows you that it's okay to be your quirky self, even with others poking fun at you. Luna, I feel, gives any and everyone the courage to be their authentic self.

6. Do you have any hobbies apart from writing?

Reading, I love to read anything by Jodi Ellen Malpas. And boxing.....great stress reliever!

7. Do you have any advice for other writers?

Don't listen to that little nagging, negative voice in your head. No matter what it has to say because you'll never know until you try.

8. What made you begin writing?

I created all of these stories in my head, and one day, I started to write them down. Half of them have turned into this little world that I hope to share one day.

9. What do you like the most about Wattpad?

I love that you can engage with your readers and see what they think of your writings, what their favorite part of a chapter is, and see the emotion they're feeling. It's great, and some of the comments have left me laughing!

10. What is your writing process like?

I write down my ideas on paper, and once I have names for my main characters, I'll type. But, honestly, it's not the most effective writing process because I end up having ten different versions of the same story with various narratives. And at times, a very, very jumbled storyline.
