"So she just asked if I was happy and then took off?" I asked Johnny.

"Pretty much," He said shrugging his shoulders.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I had heard in sixth period that Joey and Aaron hadn't broken up and Cherry told me that she flipped out on her but now this? What was going on with her.

"I don't know how to put it, but it just seemed like she wanted to be different. Like she wanted to be better," Johnny explained.

"I hope so. I know she can, and Cherry does too. We'll just have to see if she can let her true self overcome her reputation."

We arrived shortly at the Curtis house and we sat on the couch talking. I was sitting in Sodas lap next to Johnny. We had all talked about what we wanted to do that night. Ponyboy and I had done our homework at school like we always did and two bit and Johnny claimed they didn't have any so we were all free for the night.

"I wanna go see a movie," Ponyboy said.

"You always wanna see a movie Ponyboy," I argued. He rolled his eyes and then sat back in a pouting position in his seat and I chuckled at him.

"We could go to Bucks man, I hear it's gonna be wild there tonight," Dal tempted.

"Or not," Darry stated making it very clear he wasn't allowing his kid brothers at Bucks place.

"Well what are we gonna do just sit here all night?" I asked rhetorically.

I looked in the mirror and thought about what I was about to do.

"If you do this Joey there is no going back," I thought out loud. I took a deep breath and just stared at my reflection.

I wanted to do this. I needed to do this. Not just for me but for Kaylee, for Cherry, for every hood greaser and every rich Soc and every confused middle class kid, I needed to do this. I was He most popular girl in the school. That didn't just give me a title but that gave me a voice. And I was about to finally use it for good.

I grabbed my worst pair of jeans and a plain white t-shirt and a pair of scissors and red paint. Then I put them all in a bag and took another look in the mirror. This was the right thing to do. Then I slipped out my window, and headed for the east side of town.

"Well I'm going to the bathroom and when I get back you losers better decide where we're going tonight!" I scolded sarcastically.

"Oh wait," Soda said grabbing my hand and pulling me down to his lips. He kissed me softly and all the boys booed like they always do.

"So who's the better kisser Ponyboy or Sodapop?" Dally asked laughing. After Soda found out we went ahead and told the whole gang. A decision we most definitely regret.

"Hmm," I pretended to think. "Probably Darry," I said jokingly and Soda stood up and slung me over his shoulder. But before long the fun was interrupted by the front door opening. We all froze in our places and just looked at her.

"I need your help," she said ignoring the stares.

Sodapop dropped me and I landed on my feet and walked over to Joey.

"What's wrong?" I was concerned. She wouldn't dare come to this side of town unless something was very wrong.

"I'm gonna make a difference and I need all of you to help me do that?"

"Okay," I started and glanced down at the bag in her hand. "What do you need us to do?"

"I need you to help turn me into a greaser."
