Teenagers
When we step off the plane into the airport, it's dead quiet. Only a few security guards remain, and they look as if they've been waiting there for years, all of them practically falling asleep.
We are guided down hallway after hallway until we finally stop at the entrance. There a bus waits to take us to another destination. This is certainly not the first class transportation we received last year.
In the distance I can see massive skyscrapers that stretch above the gray clouds looming above us. I have a feeling that's where we're heading. I was right, because when we arrive, I notice we're at the tallest of the buildings that's left standing. I have to strain my head to look up at the seemingly endless tower.
When we walk inside, the entire atmosphere changes completely, leaving me in shock. This is not at all the government-run bot fights. Walking in all directions - shouting and cheering like wild animals in a cage - are teenagers and young adults. All wearing raggedy clothing. All with some form of mark on their skin - anything from a scar to a body covered in tattoos.
I gulp as I'm pushed forward towards the crowd. As we walk through, they all step back, as if we're living gods. I try to act like I expected this but it isn't working. My face is still plastered with shock. Suddenly Christopher taps me on the shoulder, making me jump backwards.
"So...a society run my teenagers...fantastic." He says sarcastically, his tone hinting the same anxiousness as mine.
"Did you know about this?" I whisper back to him.
"No." He replies flatly, I can tell that if he had known, he wouldn't have signed up.
"I have a terrible feeling about this." I whisper as I see us approaching what looks like an elevator.
He doesn't get the chance to say anything before the doors open, revealing it's not an elevator at all. Rather a long empty hallway. I decide to walk down it, wanting to get far away from the teenagers.
The doors at the far end open and a young woman wear glasses and a blazer begins to walk towards me, "Hello, I hope you had a pleasant travel here."
"About as pleasant as the front room was." Christopher whispers to me, making me smile slightly.
"I'm sure you've all already heard the round schedules. Now you will find out who you will be versing." She says, suddenly the walls of the hallway light up, showing graphs of names. I frantically hunt for Davids name and finally find it.
David Falcon vs Zombie vs Stalker.
I sigh, thankful it wasn't anyone that I had conflict with from previous years. Suddenly I feel a hand touch around my shoulder. I look up to see Christopher smiling at me politely.
"So how screwed are you?" He asks, looking at the screen.
"I'm not sure yet." I reply.
"Well I'm versing Luke Eston's android and another robot. So I don't know how this will go." We continue to talk.
We stand talking for a while until the woman then leads us down the hallway to our rooms. Me and Christopher stand talking for a little while as people begin to clear out of the hallway. I begin to wonder where David is, and out of the corner of my eye I see him watching us from a distance. He looks slightly curious, but one tone stands out the most; Jealousy.
