Chapter One
Tears seeped down her puffy red eyes, as they froze on the screen of her phone that was laid landscape, leaning against the lamp on the desk in front of her, showing her a heartbreaking view. She whimpered and sobbed, starting to feel numbness attack her heart. She was nothing but a helpless, scattered vulnerable woman in pain right now.
She watched him fill her hairline and closed her eyes, falling onto the ground from her bed she was sat on earlier, hitting her head onto the tiled floor. She cried as much as she could, yet it went unheard amidst the joyful wedding taking place right below. Even if she wanted to cause a scene and scream her displeasure, she wasn't able to move or shout for help. The rope on her wrist was tied tightly along with the tape and the tight cloth over her mouth.
She was being held captive, against her wish not knowing by who and why.
Last thing she remembered was going to the temple with Swara just before the wedding and now she finds herself in this discomforting situation. She was certain that someone close to her had done this, otherwise it was absurd to hold her captive in her own room, in her own house. She opened her eyes and cried, trying to sit up but her body was too weak for her to take control of. All the crying had scattered her emotions and the ability to calm herself down.
The coldness from the floor sent shivers down her spine and her cheeks began heating. She gave up trying to get up and rested her head on the floor, struggling to breathe properly due to the blockage of her nose. She coughed and had no air to inhale properly. Was this it, the end of her life, she now really wondered if she would pass away like this.
The door creaked open and she lifted her head, merely seeing the shoes of the figure walking towards her and then a saree near the door, closing it.
He held onto her and picked her up, placing her back on the bed. Seeing her struggle breathing, he instantly untied the cloth and took the tape off. She exhaled weakly and her head fell forward, resting against his stomach. Her eyes slowly flicker and she takes a moment to catch her breath.
"Sanskaar. . ." She softly mumbled, despite not seeing who the face belonged to, she recognised the scent, knowing who she was leaning her head on.
She lifted her head to confirm her answer, and stared at him staring down at her. "Why did you. . ." She inhaled to catch her breath before continuing, "ruin it?"
"I told you. . . I would protect them. . ." He replied back with serious expressions.
Tears rolled down and she glanced down, not wishing to look at him anymore. Realising she had seen a woman enter the room too, her eyes instantly lift towards the lady, who walked forward. After the tears dropped, her eyes widened, grasping a clear view.
"D. . . Daadimaa?"
Parvati stood in front of Ragini after Sanskaar moved out of the way, staring into Ragini's eyes with stern expressions.
While heading towards the bridge, a cheerful Swara lead the way, chatting to Ragini whereas a confused and hesitant Ragini followed her, having a thought in her mind.
'Was what she doing really worth it' this was making it hard for her to gain confidence. She hated that she had to be this shady in order to obtain the man she loved, yet felt like she had no other choice other than this to make Lakshya hers. She hated herself for thinking that this will be the only way, she wished there was something else she could do but after Sanskaar ditched her and left the plan, she thought of this way to go ahead with.
'I'm sorry Swara. . .' Her guilt apologised to Swara subconsciously, despite feeling guilty, her desire of wanting Lakshya was overweighing her kindness.
She hesitantly raised one of her hand at the same level as Swara's back, moving it forward however before she could touch Swara, a white cloth squeezed against her nose and she slowly started loosing conscious.
Hearing the platter fall, Swara instantly turned and found Ragini laying on the floor unconscious.
"Ragini!" She rushed towards her and bent down worriedly, "Ragini, what happened? Wake up!"
X
Worried about Ragini, Swara had called Shekhar, who rushed there and had carried Ragini back to the house.
Ragini was laying on her bed while the doctor was checking her, "it seems like she passed out due to weakness, has she been eating well?"
"No." Parvati spoke to the doctor, taking responsibility "she hasn't been eating well. All she was worried about was making sure this wedding goes smooth, I hadn't seen her take a single morsel of food amidst the chaos."
"No wonder she fainted, once she wakes up can you make sure she eats?" The doctor asked and they nodded their head at her.
"Thank you Doctor." Sharmishta thanked and the doctor stood up, picking her bag up.
"Allow me to see you out." Shekhar offered and the doctor nodded her head at him.
"What are you two doing here? Go and prepare for the wedding." Parvati ordered and Sharmishta and Swara surprisingly blinked at Parvati.
"Maybe we should wait till Ragini recovers. . ." Swara trailed off and Parvati shook her head negatively, "I don't think she'll wake up soon, she won't be able to take part because once she wakes up she needs to eat and by that time the wedding would start, and by the time she gets ready, the wedding would be over, so it's better to start without her. We'll record it for her."
"But Maa. . ."
Parvati interrupted before Sharmishta could continue, "if you delay the wedding because of her, do you think Ragini would like that? Go ahead with the wedding, otherwise Ragini would blame herself if anything goes wrong and we don't want that."
"But Daadi. . ."
"Maa is right, I think we should go ahead with the wedding." Shekhar interrupted as he walked back inside the room. "It would be embarrassing to cancel or delay the wedding. The guests have already started coming. And if Ragini finds out it was delayed because of her, she would feel guilty."
"Shekhar is right, what will we tell the guests? Go and get ready. We don't want to face anymore embarrassment." Parvati agreed with Shekhar and forced Sharmishta and Swara to go ahead despite them wanting Ragini to be a part of it.
"Wh. . . Why are you here. . . With. . . Him Daadimaa?" She sniffed in between her question and Parvati leaned over, untying her wrist.
"I had no choice but to do this." Parvati uttered with a stern tone, pulling the rope and throwing it on the floor, looking down at Ragini, feeling disappointed ""Lakshya doesn't love you, why would you want to force yourself to be with someone that will never love you? Do you not have any self-respect?"
Ragini was surprised to hear her Daadimaa, "But I love. . ."
"Shut up!" Parvati yelled in anger, interrupting Ragini. "If you say the word love one more time then I'll smack you as hard as I can!" She added, holding her by the face. Irritation and disappointment was clearly glimpsing in Parvati's eyes as Ragini stared into them.
"What you're doing is not love but obsession! Don't justify your actions in the name of love." She further scolded and left her face. "Let Lakshya live with that illegitimate Bengali, and think about your future! Act mature not childish!"
Ragini closed her eyes, lowering her head in front of Parvati, starting to feel slightly ashamed, not knowing why Parvati knowing her truth hurt more than her wanting Lakshya.
Parvati inhaled, controlling her emotions. Hearing Ragini's cries were breaking her heart, she hated to see her beloved granddaughter living like this, she would rather become a murderer for her Laado than letting her Laado colour her hands red. She felt grateful to lord for allowing her to find out before it was too late. She saved her Laado from committing a crime and she can never be more happy, however she had to force herself to be stern towards Ragini in order to snap her out of her delusion and secure her future, as planned.
Waking up in the night feeling thirsty, Parvati stepped out of her room to go to the kitchen. On the way, she heard few bickering and noises from the terrace, startling her.
"Who could be up there?" She wondered and swallowed, heading up instead while chanting gods name. "Please don't be ghosts." She wished to herself and hesitantly opened the door, peeking in only to find Ragini and Sanskaar arguing.
"Enough is enough Ragini! Just stop this madness now, if you really love Lakshya then let him be happy with Swara!"
"Why can't I be happy with him? Why does it have to be Swara!"
"Because he loves Swara and not you!"
"What happened to you? You were in this with me and now you're betraying me!"
"I'm sorry, but I can't do this anymore. I'm sorry I gave you false hopes, I'm sorry that I started all of this, but it's time we stop now. Please."
"You can stop but I won't! I'll make Lakshya mine under any cost!"
"And I'll protect them under any cost!" He warned and started walking away.
"I hate you Sanskaar, I thought you were my friend but you also don't care about my happiness. It's over between us. . ." She screamed as tears seeped down her cheeks.
He exhaled, ignoring her and seeing him walk closer, Parvati headed back down, shocked and disheartened after hearing their conversation.
"What is happening Thakurji?" She whispered to herself.
Ragini's tears weren't stopping at all, she couldn't feel anything but a cold stone replacing her heart. It felt as if her heart passed away, leaving her empty and lonely. It was over for her, she had nothing more to loose. Her whole life turned upside down after the love of her life married her sister. It was a torture to show her the marriage through video call, every second she witnessed it, she died. Happiness was now far from her, she could feel nothing but numbness. The main faces her mind wanted to blame behind this destruction of her life was her own Grandma and Sanskaar.
Parvati turned towards Sanskaar, and Sanskaar made eye-contact with her.
"I hope you remember your promise."
He nodded his head positively and lowered his gaze, "Don't worry, I won't back away from my words." He assured her and she felt convinced, heading towards the door.
'I only did this for you Laado.' She thought to herself, before exiting the room, leaving Sanskaar behind with Ragini.
