sun burns
10 years later, after the Glitter Force had saved the world from impending doom, life had returned to normal. Or somewhat normal...they still had Candy and Pop with them. Emily now works at the local bookstore, Kelsey works at her parents restaurant, Lily draws comics and commissions, April is a soccer player and coach and Chloe teaches at Rainbow Hills middle school.
Life was good.
There was no worries.
Truely?
Kelsey cuddled into her wife, April's chest as they watched a movie. A horror one. Kelsey liked watching these because she knew April would cuddle her more than usual and honestly...that was the only reason. She often had nightmares after. April was here to protect her though, so it was all ok.
"Mmm...I've had enough of this!" April grunted, pushing Kelsey off her. "I'm going to bed."
Kelsey smirked from the ground. "Scaredy-cat♥︎."
"Yeah, I am. At least I admit to it." April huffed, walking to their bedroom. "Now, you better come cuddle me or I'll make you admit you're one as well!"
Jeez, April...so scared of everything, Kelsey thought to herself, smiling. Cute.
Kelsey turned the TV off, went to their bedroom and jumped in bed next to April. Kelsey felt April put her arm around her waist and pull her close to her body.
Peace and contentment. On the verge of sleep...
"Hey, Kels?" April whispered.
"Mm?"
"Are you scared?"
Scared? Kelsey? The great Glitter Sunny? "Of what?" The red-head wearily asked.
"The past."
"Mm..." That's all Kelsey could get out before going to sleep.
——
What was it that made Kelsey go into action? Was it the fact there was a giant evil clown volleyball attacking the school? Or was it watching her friend get beaten and squeezed before her eyes?
~
Sunny stood and faced the enemy. She was willing to fight for her precious ones - her friends. She would do anything to protect them. Especially after they had put all that hard work into making her a good luck charm.
She was shaking.
The passion and love for her friends caused her to keep fighting, although she couldn't feel anything.
~
Kelsey looked to the sky. Darkness, debris and a hand the size of a continent was all she saw. The breakdown of her friends around her was what she heard. She tasted a mix of dirt and her own blood.
Everything was gone. Her efforts seemed like they were for nothing. All the punches she took and gave, the sleepless nights wondering when the next attack was, not knowing if she will survive the next one...
...and she was only 14.
——
Kelsey rapidly sat up in her bed, out of breath and sweating like a pig. Her heart was beating at 1000 miles per hour. Adrenaline rushed through her veins. What was on her lap? No time to think, just act. She took a swift punch to whatever it was. April jolted awake.
"My arm!" The green-eyed girl yelled in agony.
Shit.
April looked at the panicked women next to her. "Honey? You ok?"
The red-head stared at the end of the bed, breathing heavily.
"Kels?"
Kelsey snapped into present times. "I..."
April wrapped her arms around her wife. "It's ok." She purred softly, trying to calm her down.
Kelsey shook.
"Hey now, you're ok. I'm right here." April whispered.
Then the tears came.
"I was so scared....the world was literally on my shoulders!" Kelsey's voice cracked. April sighed. This always happens after a horror movie or a confronting situation.
"I know, baby. It's all fine now. He's gone."
"Sometimes I think about what would of happened if we didn't win...if I died...everything would be gone because I wasn't strong enough." Kelsey sniffled, sinking into April's embrace. "I can't live a normal life....I just see whatever we saw that day over and over...the look of pure evil...the fact that the earth could have been destroyed...It all just came crashing down on me! One day I'm carefree and the next, I'm having nightmares every single night. I have to keep this resilient persona going even though I feel like crying....Why did we have to go through that when we were so young!? It's scarring..."
"I know, it's hard and you know we all have our moments like this. What we saw was difficult to deal with." April whispered calmly. "I'm here for you, Kels. We all are."
"April..." Whimpered Kelsey.
April tenderly fan her fingers through her wife's red hair. "What is it?"
"I'm...scared...."
"I know, bub. And that's ok! We all are." April lifted Kelsey's chin. "But we have each other, right? We saved the world. That's so amazing! And if one of us is lonely, we will all be there. We will be able to do anything together!" She smiled.
Kelsey giggled a bit and wiped a tear from her cheek. "You sound like Emily..."
"Mmm..." April pondered, before leaning in. "She wouldn't do this, though~"
The taller woman pulled the shorter one into a surprising, yet somewhat comfortable kiss. Kelsey's shoulders became loose and her heart started beating at its normal rate. She knew April was right - what she felt was valid but she had so many people that loved and cared for her. She wasn't alone. She fought for a reason and they were all ok now.
Everything was perfect.
