Chapter 1
---1---
--Noah--
I ran down the empty street, frantically racking my brain for a plan or even a solution.
I thought back to when my boss morphed into a creepy Michael Jackson. I remember exactly what he said to me, before and after.
I was stacking some shelves when suddenly, Natalie came up to me. She was one of my good friends at the store and she'd sometimes help me stack the shelves. She hadn't been for two weeks, she'd taken time off for four weeks so she could go back home to Australia to help look after her sick father. She wasn't due back for two weeks, so when she appeared at my side, I was a bit surprised.
'Noah,' she smiled. I dropped the box I was holding.
'Nat? What are you doing here? I thought you went back to Australia,' I asked, confused. She sighed and helped me pick up the box and its contents.
'Well you see, something else crept up back here so I had to fly back and sort it out. I've got another flight back out there at 5,' she explained.
'Oh right. How is he? Doing any better?' I asked, careful about my words.
'Yeah, thanks Noah. He's had a change of rooms in the hospital, so now the nurses can get to him quicker if he needs them. He scheduled in for a operation next week though,' she said sadly. I gave her a hug an she smiled weakly.
'Thanks Noah, but I came in to let Mr. Edwards know that I may need a few more weeks out there, after Dad's operation, he said yes but he sent me to go and get you before I left for the airport,' Natalie sighed. I rolled my eyes.
'If he wants coffee, he can do it himself,' I grumbled. Natalie laughed and followed me out.
I gave Natalie a big hug and said goodbye and watched her get in a cab outside the store. She waved at me and smiled as the cab pulled away. I turned and went back into the store and headed towards the back, stopping in front of Mr. Edward's door. I knocked and waited for an answer.
'Come in Noah,' came the voice on the other side of the door. I pushed it open and walked into the small, stuffy office. One fan was going on full power in the corner of the room, all the small windows were opened as wide as they could go. There were piles of boxes and stacks of paperwork and food wrappers everywhere. In the middle of the room was Mr. Edwards' desk, with piles of contracts from suppliers to the store. There were bills scattered over the desk and pinned on the notice board and Mr. Edwards was sitting at his desk, playing Pinball on his old computer.
Mr. Edwards was a weird guy, he had this strange obsession with action figures and old computer games, and normally spends a few hours of his dull life playing with them. He wasn't that much older than me, maybe 22, and he was this really skinny, spotty thing.
He had no knowledge of running a business, let alone a grocery store. He was only temporarily my boss, until his father returned from his business trip abroad, which had been about a month and a bit now.
Mr. Edwards' father, Ted, didn't have any of this "Mr. Edwards" crap, he had everyone in the store call each other by their first names, including himself. Everything at the store had been in order and his office was alway clean and cool, but since his son, Chris had come, things ha really gone downhill. Chris had made sure everyone called him Mr. Edwards and had no real role in running the store, just sitting playing with his action figures or on the computer. Bit of a big jerk if you ask me.
'Yes?' I asked. Mr. Edwards stopped playing on the computer and grinned at me.
'Noah, would you give me a hand with this paper work?' He asked. I blinked and shook my head.
'Sorry, but I have to go back to sorting and stacking the shelves. You're the boss, you should be able to manage it yourself,' I told him politely.
'Fine, get back to work and bring me a coffee. Geez, I could have you fired for that, talking to me like I'm trash!' He growled. I sweat dropped and turned to leave, but for some reason I turned back around, maybe to fight back and defend myself, maybe to tell him that I would not get his coffee, I don't really remember, but when I turned around, I saw him shimmer and glow a faint golden color before turning into a freaky Michael Jackson.
'Sasuke! I want your body!' He hissed at me, like he was some snake. I broke into a run, and slammed the door behind me. I ran into the main shop to see Ian, the guy behind the counter, turn into a gray Harry Potter.
'Well, well Sasuke, what did I say, you can't escape us,' he chuckled. I yelled and ran out of the shop, I jumped into my car, parked just around the corner and sped home. I tried to relive what I'd just witnessed in my mind. They'd both called me Sasuke, what did that mean? I carried on driving, probably going a little over the speed limit, thank goodness there weren't any cops around just then.
I made it home and ran in, locking the door. I picked up the phone and dialed 911, waiting for an answer, but it went straight to voice mail. I tried again, an again. Nine times in a row, it went straight to voice mail...
