Chapter 3
Izzy woke up by her phone ringing, it was her dad... It was so early though, around four am. "Hello...?"
Why was her father calling her? She started getting nervous. Her father doesn't know she is at Alec's, he would have never allowed her to stay there, he and Alec have cut off ties a long time ago. It must have been serious, she doesn't dare to bring it up, not at how Maryse had reacted last time.
"Hello princess, how are you? Is the apartment you told me about exactly like the pictures?" Robert asked calmly, as if having a normal conversation during meal time.
"It's quite early dad... But yes everything turned out well." Izzy was doubtful. Maryse would have let her do such only if she staid at Alec's, live on her own... Short of.
"What? Oh, it is. Why are you up so early? I hope you are not taking my generosity for granted, this is suppose to help you get used to the responsibility of looking after yourself! You will be in university next year young lady... Don't make me regret trusting you..."
Izzy felt her stomach turn, he will not miss the opportunity to tell her off despite everything.
"Dad, I promise you, I am doing well with the chores and school..."
It's four am, Izzy was woken up by the phone call.
It's been only three days into the school year.
"Ah right, tell your mother when she can no longer pay for you rent and bills to drop her ego and get over it already. An antique store won't be enough to take care of her, Max and you. Seriously this woman can't get over herself and her supremacy issues! It makes me wonder, just how did I even come to like that women... It must have been pity."
Izzy felt her hearing going numb, there he goes again. Rambling and hating on her mother. She cannot even hang up or interrupt him, disagreeing is off the table, he will start yelling and making himself the victim. It leads nowhere.
She almost had a heart attack when Alec walked down the hallway, picking his head in the room. "Is everything okay?"
He whispered, Izzy nodding.
Shortly her dad was done with his complaining and hanged up, not leaving Izzy ask him her own questions. Why was he up so early?
"Who was it?"
Alec asked, sensing something is off.
"Dad... He... I don't know what to say really. I am just thankful I am here and not there, his mugging would have been endless." Izzy sighed, laying back on her bed.
Surprisingly, Alec walked up to her, settling beside her."Everything will be okay... If things get tough you can always come here."
Izzy smiled softly, "I know."
Both siblings dazed off to sleep, waking up the next day very much delighted.
Izzy, as always walked through the halls of high school, ending up at her usual sit, her friends always there, waiting for her.
"Hello dears."
"Izzy, please tell Jace to quite being a doufous." Clary exclaimed.
"Why, what did you say or do?"
Izzy laughed.
"He was curious about a new trend... Like bloody mary or the other thing, with the doll that somehow plays with you hide and seek." Simon explained briefly.
Izzy was intrigued, it may be a good spooky idea to test to the sleepover.
"Tell me about it."
Izzy and Simon exchanged glances, both realising where this was going.
"So, the game is simple, just like you summon Bloody Mary, like that you summon the prince of hell, Magnus Bane." Jace spoke, Izzy listening eagerly.
"There is no way it works though... Right?" Simon asked nervously.
"Some say they have seen a dark figure on the mirror but others say nothing happened... Some say the lights flickered or went completely off... Nothing harmful, just a scare. And that If it works." Jace reassured him.
Simon still felt at odds with it.
"And how does it work?"
Izzy asked, leaning in.
"Well, its pretty simple actually. A big mirror-"
"I have one."
Izzy nodded.
"A big mirror in the darkest corner of a room, it doesn't matter witch. The players need to be holding hands in a circle, must not break the circle or you will allow him access to the world, the mirror becoming a portal..." Jace went on, Clary letting out a sigh of disbelief.
"The group whispers some words and then, most likely, a spooky waiting with nothing actually happening." Jace finished just as the teacher made an entrance.
"We are doing it." Izzy whispered making Simon amd Clary whine in defeat.
-
Clary was getting ready when her mother walked in. This woman will never learn how to knock. "There is a door for a reason."
Joslin rolled her eyes. "Teenagers and their needs today."
"All I am asking is for some privacy!" Clary wanted to yell, but not today. Her mother could change her mind and even go as far as to change her school. Joslin was never fond of Izzy, she liked Simon amd wished for Clary to date him instead of Jace, he is not proper she would say.
"Who will be there?"
Joslin asked, her hands crossing over her chess.
"I told you a thousand times already." Clary wished to have said. "Izzy and me mom... Her big brother Alec as well but he will be off on duty."
Clary did not dare show a sign of anger, annoyance.
"Oh? Is he a police officers? He will keep you safe." Joslin said rather to herself, satisfied.
"No mom, he is a bodyguard."
Clary corrected her under her breath.
Joslin grimaced.
"Not intelligent enough to get in the police? His sister must be taking after him... Though... With that body of hers I would not be surprised -"
"-Mom I will be late."
Sometimes she could not stand her own mother.
Joslin shrugged, "Okay, we will be going, don't take your frustration to me ever again though."
-
Clary stepped out of the car in front of Izzy's house, taken aback when her mother walked beside her up to the entrance. "What... What are you doing?!"
"I need to have a talk with that brother of hers obviously. I am not letting you on some stranger's house." Joslin said, knocking the door.
Clary went pale.
"No mom! Please just leave! You will embarrass me in front of Izzy's family!"
"There is nothing you should be embarrassed about, especially towards people like that." Joslin snapped making Clary want to cry and roll up in a corner out of shame and anger, just who does her mother think she is.
-
Alec passed the leaving room where Izzy and her two other friends were chattering and laughing. Alec thought it must be the delivery and headed to the door after it was briefly knocked.
Opening it he saw Clary, avoiding his gaze at all cost and an older woman with the same red hair colour. "You must be Clary's mom?" Alec extended his hand for a friendly hand shake... She did not do so.
"Right, I just wanted you to know, if anything happens to my little girl you will be responsible. I will make sure of it.... The name is Clarissa by the way."
And just like that, she walked off with a proud victorious smirk.
Alec stared after her, not sure where this attitude was coming from.
"I am so sorry about her, she is... She is.."
"Overprotective? I get it." Alec said with a shrug, letting Clary in and leading her with the rest... Where did the other two go?
His question was answered shortly enough when two heads popped up behind the couch. "...okay..." Alec frowned in confusion as he waited for Izzy to take it upon herself to explain their... Behaviour.
"Clary's mom does not like the fact we have male friends... She one of those people." She whispered to him, Alec nodded, not really wanting anything else and left.
He would actually be heading out, meeting Rafael and Lydia at a sports center, leaving Izzy and her friends alone. Izzy promised him they won't do anything stupid but he highly doubted so.
And just like that, Alec headed off, leaving the four teenagers do their thing.
