Summer romances were practically designed not to last. Samantha knew that.

Or at least she knew that now.

She wished she had known that when she had entered into a summer relationship with Conrad Fisher, the boy who she had been in love with since she was eleven years old. She had felt like it was a relationship built to last as the two had known each other since they were born. However, it seemed that she had been severely mistaken. Their relationship had barely lasted for two months when he dumped her out of nowhere and then escorted another girl to a debutante ball.

It had taken months for Samantha to recover and move on. Well, move on in theory. The fact of the matter was he was the first boy that she had ever loved and she wasn't sure that her heart would ever completely belong to someone else, despite how hard she tried. She hadn't heard from Conrad Fisher since last summer.

But today was the day when Samantha and her mother and brother were going back to Cousins for the summer and Samantha would have to see Conrad again.
