Part I | VII

sorry for not updating for eight years!! trying to get into science post secondary is a lot more stressful than I anticipated

"I'm good at a lot of things, I'd like to think. But I'm best at being a fucking dumbass."

Jungkook sat at his desk in english class, scratching indentations into it with his compass from math class. His leg was wrapped up in bandages - having been to the doctor after the incident at the skatepark, he was told that he now had a minor tear in one of the major ligaments in his knee, which was absolutely fantastic. He was told that he wasn't allowed to skate for at least a month, and no major weight could be lifted. However, Jungkook wasn't major on listening to authority, which would be why his skateboard was sitting in his locker at the moment.

"Yeah I second that." Hyuna sat backwards in her chair so that she could face Jungkook, completely disregarding the work that sat on her desk. Jungkook continuously wondered how she didn't get dress coded, because the skirt she was wearing wasn't even a uniform piece, and it rested much higher than the required length. "But why exactly are you saying that? Did something happen?"

Jungkook shrugged.

"I don't know." He sighed. "I'm just. I don't know."

"Eloquent." Hyuna laughed, pushing a few pieces of her hair out of her eyes. "I'm gonna need you to actually use words, because although I wish I was, I'm not a mind reader."

"I'm overanalyzing everything?" He spoke, his eyebrows furrowed. "Yeah. I'm overanalyzing ever single thing that Taehyung does and in my brain it makes me think that he likes me, but I know that I'm just delusional." He sighed. "Like at the skatepark when I fucked myself up, Taehyung was the one who care for me, and he let me wear his jacket and all that dumb shit. When I got home I was over the moon even though I could hardly walk because my brain was making me believe that he was only doing that because he liked me."

Hyuna pursed her lips. She was obviously trying to carefully pick her words, but Jungkook wished that she wouldn't. He liked it best when she was blunt with him.

"Listen, Jungkook." She sighed. "Taehyung... I was alright listening to you go on about him when it was just a little crush, but now that you actually know him... I think you should let it be." Her lips were rugged into a frown, but she held sincere eye contact with him. "I don't want to see you get hurt, alright? He's straight. He's straight and he has a girlfriend. No matter how close you get to him, he's not going to see you how you see him."

Jungkook looked down, a pain manifesting itself in his chest.

"I know that, Hyuna." He sighed. "But I can't suddenly not like him, you know?" He scratched deeper into his desk, his knuckles turning near white due to the grip on his compass. "Who gave him the right the be so perfect?"

"God, maybe." Hyuna shrugged. "You have to force yourself to stop liking him.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, folding his arms in front of him and resting his head on his desk.

"You make it sound easy." He huffed. "I've told you before, crushes to me aren't fleeting. If I like someone, I don't just stop liking them. It lingers." Jungkook frowned, picking at one of the scratches on his desk. "Fuck, I've even had more than one crush at once before. My heart's a whore." He pouted.

Hyuna couldn't help but laugh at Jungkook's last words, pushing a few strands of hair out of her face.

"That's okay." She chuckled. "I think your main issue is that you let your feelings control you." Jungkook raised an eyebrow. "How's this? Don't force yourself to stop liking Taehyung, force yourself to not let your feelings for him get in the way of what could be an amazing friendship."

Jungkook shrugged, his body language dejected.

"I'll try."

-

"Jungkook! How's your knee feeling?"

Jungkook dragged his foot along the ground to slow his board down as Yoongi jogged after him after the last bell had rang.

"Nothing a few painkillers can't get me through." He shrugged, pulling the slipping strap of his backpack over his shoulder. "What's up?"

Yoongi grinned, stuffing his hands into his pockets. He had changed out of his uniform and was now wearing an oversized hoodie and a pair of black jeans.

"You can thank me later, but I think I might have just gotten you a chance to bag Taehyung." He beamed, Jungkook raising an eyebrow - completely unconvinced.

"Yeah?" He asked, amused. "And how did you do that?"

Yoongi smiled and clapped his hands.

"So!" He exclaimed. "You know the annual party that goes on downtown for high school students?" Jungkook already did not like where this was going. "Hoseok got tickets, and he's bringing Taehyung. If I go, I can bring you with me."

Jungkook frowned.

"Go on." He sighed, picking up his skateboard so that he could walk down the front steps.

"See, you probably already know, this party is notorious for all of the hookups that go on there." He explained. "Everyone's young, drunk, and ready to get some." He sighed. "It's awesome."

"I'm going to be honest with you, I'm not liking where this is going." Jungkook huffed, stuffing his board behind his backpack so that he could walk with his hands free.

"Here's the plan!" Yoongi completely ignores Jungkook's distaste in the idea. "My parents aren't home, so we pregame at my house. You're gonna wear something hot, so when Taehyung sees you he's gonna go nuts! Then, we get to the party, and you two bone or something I don't know."

Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows.

"But, Chaerin?" He asked, not too keen on the idea of helping someone cheat, no matter how much he liked them.

"He's not bringing her." Yoongi answered. "Plus me and Hoseok are trying to get him to break up with her anyway. If she finds out, just say that you were drunk. No harm, no foul."

Jungkook had a strange feeling in his chest. He absolute hated the idea of helping Taehyung be unfaithful, but at the same time... Jungkook imagined the feeling of Taehyung's lips on his, face going red at the though of Taehyung's strong hands on him. "Well? What do you think?"

Jungkook wrung his hands.

"I don't know." He mumbled, Yoongi hugging and nudging his shoulder.

"Don't be a buzzkill!" He laughed. "But whatever, tickets are on sale until this Friday. You've got a few days to decide."

Jungkook nibbled at his bottom lip. His conscience was screaming at him to say no, but his heart..

"I'll think about it."
