Hope this is decent. It's a plot outline for a project for English. Is this too depressing????

1. Introduction, Patrick's mom's funeral and ultimately numbness. Spends all his time in his room, doesn't leave, don't talk to anyways, is completely and utterly depressed.

2. Dad suggests leaving for country or to at least get out of the city, Patrick obviously isn't thrilled but agrees. Tells him he'll think about it. Patrick's piano begins to get dusty, used to play it all the time before mom

3. About a week later, Dad announces that Patrick's moving out to the country with his grandparents for the summer. Patrick is extremely upset but doesn't show it, just keeps bottling it up. Arrives at grandparents and they welcome him with open arms. He only stays in his room

4. Three days pass until Patrick's grandparents say they're going out to town and he nods and as soon as they leave, he heads down to the lake. He's been curious ever since he got there. Goes out and after a long while begins to draw what he sees from the notepad that his grandparents had in their basement.

5. Patrick's in his room again that night, staring out his window at his lake when he sees a boy. Curiosity grows but he can't do anything because his grandparents tell him he needs to stay in bed.

6. Patrick heads back down to the lake but the boy isn't there. Returns at night to see him there again. He just watches and isn't brave enough to approach him. The boy's skipping rocks, though. And he kind of wants to talk to him but he knows his grandparents will catch him if he's out of bed.

7. Patrick gets a postcard from his dad, asks if he's doing okay and Patrick writes back about how it's kind of boring, but he thinks he's getting better. Sends it out and looks back out to the lake. The boy is there, he finally decides to work up the courage to confront him. Goes down and tries to confront him, panics, though, and breaks a brance when he tries to run away. The boy sees him anyways and after an awkward introduction, Patrick learns his name is Pete. Pete says he has to go but he'll see him tomorrow.

8. Pete and Patrick quickly make a friendship, Patrick tells Pete about himself and Pete tells Patrick about himself. Pete teaches Patrick how to skip rocks and in return, Patrick would show Pete his drawings.

9. Pete comes to the house with Patrick and after a long hesitation and a depressing silence, Patrick tells Pete about how he's only there for the summer. Came after his mother died of cancer. Pete tries to comfort him but Patrick ends up brushing it off and instead takes him down to the piano in the basement. Plays for Pete despite the fact it's been a month since he last played.

10. Patrick stays awake that night after Pete's gone home, stares at his ceiling and tries to sleep but can't. Eventually goes to the kitchen and finds a letter back from his dad. He sends another back and finally falls asleep.

11. Wakes up the next morning and finds Pete out by the lake staring off at the reflection  Patrick asks what's up and Pete replies that his sister was diagnosed with cancer. Patrick says he's sorry and after a while, just lets Pete talk about how scared he is etc. Ends where they get into a fight and Patrick leaves.

12. Patrick stays in his room all day, doesn't come out and doesn't eat. Feeling very depressed because Pete's gone and his mom's gone and just kind of lays in bed thinking about what he could have changed, and how he should have changed. Gets a letter back from his dad after about a week. He's in the hospital after a bad car accident.

13. Patrick drives back home and immediately visits his dad in the hospital. Patrick agrees to stay for a couple weeks to make sure he's alright. Broke both legs and fractured his wrist confining him to a wheelchair. Patrick's stress/depression level gets impossibly worse to the point where he breaks down that night.

14. A week passes where he helps his dad around the house,  doing chores and making sure he's okay. He's basically stressing about his dad 24/7 because he's terrified of losing him but in reality, he's only making himself more and more depressed and anxious. His dad notices when he finally sits down and talks about how bad his mental health has been with everything from Pete to his Mom. Finally his dad suggests he goes back to his grandparents. Patrick agrees hesitantly.

15. Patrick returns to his grandparents, feels kind of anxious but refreshed for the most part, because home's now a pretty bad place for him. Goes down to the lake and decides to draw again. No signs of Pete.

16. Patrick sees Pete down at the lake later that night, skipping rocks again. Patrick heads down and talks to Pete even though he won't reply. When he's finally finished, Pete replies that he needed Patrick and he wasn't there. Patrick apologizes. Pete accepts, drops his rock and looks back at him. Eventually they just sit and watch the stars.

17. Patrick wakes up the next morning still out on the beach. Pete is still there. After a long moment, Patrick leaves a short note saying he went up to the house but Pete can come if he wants. He eats some breakfast with his grandparents. When they ask how he's doing, he smiles and says he's doing really good for once. Pete shows up eventually and they head to the basement where Patrick plays a few songs on piano.

18. Pete brings Trick over to his house where he meets his parents and Pete. They hang out for a while, skip rocks at some point, Pete plays some guitar, they're just all around pretty happy.

19. The summer begins to come to an end, the temperature's getting cooler and Patrick's a week away from going back home. Pete admits that his summer's been 10x better with him there and Patrick laughs and says the same. They stay at home for most of the day, talking and laughing.

20. Last day before he has to head back, they say their goodbyes, super sappy Patrick ends up crying and they joke about it. Right before Patrick leaves, he hands Pete a sketch of him skipping rocks on the lake. Patrick agrees he'll come back next summer, and he'll text if he gets a chance.
