Chapter Eighteen // And Now I'll Have To Be Related To That?

"I, too, have to wear that horrid dress when my dear Grace gets married to your brother. Don't worry, though - ugly suits you." Lexie smirks, sashaying past Ingrid and her mother.

"And now I'll have to be related to that?"  Ingrid cries out, groaning.

"Ingrid Josephine, don't speak about your future sister-in-law like that. You two are going to have to get along after the wedding." Rachel chastises, frowning.

"Do I have to?" her daughter complains, glaring over at Lexie with a burning hatred in her eyes.

"I don't want you to fight. You have to play nice - I don't need another issue to deal with right now."

"Fine, I'll be nice to her for right now, but no promises for after the wedding."

--

About an hour later, Lexie shows up at Flynn's house, seemingly happy. "Flynn, you're my date to my sister's wedding." she states, not really giving him a choice in the matter. "It's Saturday, wear a gold suit so we can match."

"Isn't that kind of soon?"

"Yeah, but Grace is pregnant, so we have to move the wedding up so that she can still fit in her dress."

"Alright, but no promises on the gold suit. The wedding's in two days."

Lexie grins, kissing him on the cheek. "Thanks, babe. I knew you could do it."

--

The following morning, the pizza party for the summer school program takes place, Ingrid stealing a whole box for herself, running outside to the field, hiding from the other people. Flynn goes looking for her, finding her on the 50 yard line, eating a slice of pepperoni pizza.

"Ingrid, you stole a whole box of pizza?" he questions, raising an eyebrow as he sits next to her, stealing a slice from the box.

"Got a problem with it?"

"No, but you know our principal will once he finds out that there's not enough pizza to feed the rest of the kids."

"Too bad, it's all mine."

"You're despicable, you know that?"

"That's the best compliment you've ever given me."

"How's the wedding preparations going?"

"Well, I have to wear this ugly dress, for starters. Second of all, nobody told me that Grace is Lexie's sister, so now I have to be related to her, and I don't want to be related to her. My mom's forcing me to be nice to her, too, so I can't even rip out her fake hair anymore." Ingrid groans, falling back on the turf below her.

"You'll be fine, Ingrid. It's not the end of the world, everything will be okay."

"You're still with her, aren't you?"

"Yeah. Can't bring it to myself to break up with her." Flynn sighs, laying down next to her.

"Well, I don't even have a date anymore, because Daniel doesn't want anything to do with me."

"Better than going with Lexie."

"You're going with her?"

"Sadly."

"Just tell her today that you want to break up. Problem solved."

"It's not as easy as that. Besides, I don't want to leave her dateless for the wedding."

"I'm dateless for the wedding, and I'm not complaining."

"But you know Lexie will if I dump her the day before the wedding."

"You're right, I don't want to feel her wrath at the wedding. It's better if you stay with her until after it."

"On the bright side, summer school's over, and you passed."

"Don't forget that I passed with an A. I told you I would."

"And you did. I'm proud of you."

"What are your plans for the rest of summer?" she then asks, sitting up suddenly.

"Well, if you must know, in July, it's football camp, but when I'm free, I probably won't do much of anything. We are going to Disney the week before school starts, though." he answers, glancing over at the girl.

"It's kind of cliche, but I've always wanted to go to Disney. We just never had the money, after my darling father left. And now I guess I never will."

"Do you want to come with us? Everett won't be going, he's got other plans, so we've got a vacant spot if you'd like it. I'm sure my parents won't mind, they love you."

"Really? You're willing to take me to Disney?"

"It's more of a trip for the little ones, but yeah, putting it like that, I guess I am willing to take you to Disney."

"That sounds great, Flynn. Just make sure you break up with Lexie before that, I really don't want to have to deal with her for a week straight."

"I will. I don't want to have to deal with her for a straight week just as much as you do."

Ingrid wraps her arms around Flynn, grateful to have him in her life. "You're the best."

--

Later that afternoon, Ingrid sits at the nail salon, forced to get her nails done for the upcoming event. She wasn't invited to the bachelorette party, either, even though she was in the wedding party. This was a huge waste of time to her; if Grace didn't like her, then why was she a bridesmaid? Her mother sits on the side of her, getting a pedicure with her daughter, flipping through a magazine. Ingrid didn't like the feeling of getting her feet scrubbed in the warm water, and she didn't like the whole idea of getting them painted as well. This was the worst thing she could have ever done.

--

"Look at my baby boy all dressed up." Amy Newfield cooes, gushing over her third child wearing the only suit he could find at this point in time, a regular black suit with a gold bow tie; it was the closest thing he could find that was gold.

"Mom, how do I break up with a girl that I don't like anymore?" Flynn asks, loosening the tie. "I mean, I have to. She's forcing me to go to this wedding with her against my will, and she's just really overbearing in general. I don't want to do it today, the day before the wedding, but I'm probably going to do it after the wedding tomorrow."

"Just tell her how you really feel, sweetheart - honesty's always the best policy."

"I don't want to hurt her feelings, though."

"If she's as controlling as you say she is, then it probably won't. We are talking about Lexie, right?"

"Yeah, we are. I'll try to tell her how I feel, but I have a feeling I'll be stuck with her for the rest of my life."

"You'll be fine, Flynn. She might get angry, and she might hate you after you tell her, but you won't be stuck with her for the rest of your life."

"Thanks, mom. You always give the best advice."

"It's a mom thing. If you need me, I'll be down at the office. Your father should be back in about an hour, watch over your siblings. Rosemary's got Henry with her, by the way. They went to the mall. Everett's finished for the day at his training, call him first if you need anything."

"Yes, ma'am, will do."

"And Flynn?"

"Yeah?"

"If you're going to ask out Ingrid, do it right."
