Chapter 42 : Box of Cereals
I can't believe I'm at Hoseok's house tonight and we're having a party right now.
It's all thanks to Namjoon.
He asked each one of us about our schedules and he fixed our vacant times, that way, some of us can help Hoseok in doing his works.
Yep, Lana, and I volunteered to help.
The first day was really hectic. All of us have no choice but to have a sleepless night just to finish helping Hoseok do two projects. Though it was really tiring, we enjoyed that night.
We successfully helped Hoseok in doing all of his works and as a repay he promised that he'll treat us to a party.
I never thought that Hoseok's house can be as quiet as it is. We are the only people here and it's a new sight for me to not see unfamiliar faces scattered around the whole house.
"To the brains!" Seokjin proposed a toast for Namjoon's great plan and we all clinked our glasses together.
"My dad really is a douche," Jimin muttered and they all agreed to it.
We all celebrated and enjoyed the dishes that Jin and Hoseok prepared.
This time I praised Seokjin and his skills in cooking. I want him to know that what Jimmy said to him that night was not real and that he is a fantastic cook.
I find the night really short because I was enjoying too much. Jungkook, Taehyung, and Lana got wasted, they can't speak.
Yoongi is obviously sleeping already, Namjoon went home early because he said he needs to prepare for something and Seokjin went home as well.
Leaving me, Hoseok and Jimin. Surprisingly Jimin isn't even having a drop of alcohol or even wine.
I think he only drinks when he has a bad temper and when things are going wrong.
"You two look very close already," Hoseok says before sipping on his glass.
Jimin and I suddenly exchanged uneasy glances but Jimin saved the moment. "It's because we're neighbors." He explained.
"Are you sure?" Hoseok plasters a mischievous smile on his face.
"Yeah. Besides, she has a boyfriend. Right?" Jimin looks at me as he fakes a smile at me.
I sadly nod at the both of them. I didn't know why Jimin said that, aside from the reason that he's just being truthful.
Jimin's question made me uncomfortable for the rest of the night.
It's already noon when I decided to go home. I'm really thankful that I brought my own car.
I feel like I don't want to be in the same place as Jimin right now.
=====
I was tasked to go to the grocery. My mom gave me a list of the things that we're running out of supplies. Most of them are foods.
I want to refuse, but dad is working, Serene is out with her friends and I don't want to be left alone inside the house with the annoying Sean.
Without a choice, I followed my mom's orders and I went to the nearest supermarket in town.
After getting a pushcart, I started wondering around the aisles of the supermarket while I look at the written list that my mom gave to me.
There are can goods, bacon, hotdogs, nuggets, cheese, mayonnaise, and the list goes on.
My cart is slowly filled with products that my mom needed. I also throw in some junk foods that I want to eat at home, just in case I feel like eating.
Once I finished roaming around the store and getting all the groceries on the list, I lined up to the cashier.
The lady who mans the cashier scans the products' barcodes at a rapid speed. The moment she announces the total amount of the groceries, I slid my hand inside my sling bag and get my wallet.
But when I opened it, I mentally groan to myself.
How did I forget to ask mom for money? My wallet is literally a desert.
I slowly put my wallet down as I think of excuses to say to the lady. "Uhm, I... Can I go back? I forgot my money." I told the cashier and she immediately scowled on me.
"I'm sorry ma'am but the items are already punched." She says and I purse my lips as I think of a solution.
All the ideas that I have in my mind are all useless. My brain won't function properly in this kind of situation.
I thought about showing my skills in the grocery in hopes that people would donate money to me, but I remembered that I'm just a talentless twat.
I was about to run and just leave the store like a creepy thief but then someone came to the rescue, and I didn't like it when I saw who it was.
"Eli, I told you to wait for me." He acts as if we were shopping together earlier and I give him a 'what are you doing' look.
Jimin gives the cashier a box of cereals as an addition to the groceries and the lady told him the new amount.
He proudly pulls his wallet out before getting his card and giving it to the cashier. While the lady is doing something with his card, he gives me a smug smile that makes me want to punch those lips of him.
"Have a great day ma'am and sir." The lady greets with a smile as she hands us our groceries.
The items are a little heavy and too many, but Jimin lends a helping hand. After putting them inside the compartment of my car I thanked him.
"Thank you, just come by the house and I'll ask my mom for the money I owe you." I give him a small smile before I turn around and go to the side of the driver's seat.
Before I can even open the door, he holds me by the wrist.
Whenever we touch, there's always that kind of electricity that sends confusing thoughts and feelings towards me.
"You don't have to pay, it's free." He smiles, genuinely.
"That's really nice of you, but I think my mom would agree if I pay you."
"Just have ice cream with me." He says and I furrow my eyebrows at him.
"Ice cream?" I slowly pulled my hand away from his grip when he fully gathers my attention.
"Yeah, let's go eat ice cream and I'll give those groceries for free." He gives a good bargain, but I'm not sure about his conditions.
"Jimin I need to go home," I tell him. "My mom and I need to cook dinner."
"You don't cook. You're only good at mixing stuff." He reasons out. He's probably talking about the day we went to the island where we made a fruit salad, and yes all I did was mix the fruits and the milk, no fire involved.
"So?" He says when he noticed that his statement made me silent. He really knows if I lie to him.
"Okay, but I want cookies and cream," I demand and he laughs.
He opens the door to the driver's seat and I wanted to ask him on where the hell is his car but he'll just brush my question off.
I sigh in defeat as I turn to the other side and sit in front. He maneuvers my car as he finds this ice cream shop that he has been talking about.
Once we found the shop we both got in and was about to argue to him that I'll pay my own ice cream but I remembered that my wallet is empty.
As I said, he ordered one cone cookies and cream and one gelato. Later on, someone served us what he ordered and I was surprised at the size of mine.
It's not just a simple cone, it's a bowl of cookies and cream ice cream. While Jimin just got a regular size of his gelato.
I'm not that a fan of ice creams, but I rarely eat it, maybe occasionally. I don't just like sweet foods.
Since Jimin paid for this, I'm obligated to finish it as a sign that I'm grateful for his kindness.
"Hey, Elise." He starts and I continue eating a spoonful of ice cream. "Don't you think you were being too obvious at ignoring me?" He asks and I closed my eyes tightly.
"Yeah, I can't keep up with you. You're good at it though." I replied and darted my eyes on my ice cream which is slowly melting.
"Why?"
"I don't know I just feel like... ignoring you." What's the point of lying? He'll know it anyway.
"Okay." I was surprised by his answer and I didn't bother to say anything else after that.
I focused on my food instead of thinking about the guy in front of me, though it's impossible.
I can't believe that both of us stayed silent until I finish my ice cream. He was already finished minutes ago and I purposely ate faster because I know that he's waiting for me to finish.
When we got out of the shop I was practically waiting for him to ride the driver's seat but when he doesn't move an inch, I approached him first.
"Aren't you going to ride?" I ask him as I gather my hands in front.
"No, someone will fetch me here. You go first." He said with a blank expression and I nod at him before riding inside my car.
In the whole ride, I was bothered because of Jimin's sudden attitude. I almost missed a red traffic light from thinking too much.
What did I do this time?
That man is definitely unreadable. One minute he's fine then the next minute he'll talk without even sparing a glance as if he's talking to the air.
When I arrived home, mom completely forgot about not giving me any money for groceries and I kept it that way.
When I removed the items from the paper bags and started fixing them inside the kitchen drawers and cabinets, my eyes wandered around a cereal box that I didn't get.
It's Jimin's.
I sigh as I put it on the side and planned to visit him later at his house and give him his cereal once he arrives home.
After dinner, I went to my room and look at my window to see if Jimin is home already. When I saw that the lights are still off, I lay on my bed and continued reading Wicked Ties to entertain me.
I've already read a ton of chapters and I kept looking at my window to see if there's already light at Jimin's house. But it's already eleven in the evening and there's still none.
Maybe he's just not turning them on. I hopped off my bed and grabbed the box of cereals on my bedside table as I go down the stairs.
The rest of my family are already sleeping and I did my best to stay quiet while I sneak out of the house.
I walked to the direction of Jimin's house and once I got in front of the door I rang the doorbell.
It's quite uneasy ringing a doorbell to what it feels like an empty house in the middle of the night. Only the lights from the street lamps are making his house visible.
I pressed the doorbell thrice, but no one is answering the door.
"Where is he?" I asked myself.
I slid my hand inside my pocket and reached for my phone to dial Jimin's number. I'm concerned that he's still not at home in this late hour.
His phone is ringing but he's not picking up.
Is he at a party?
I dialed Lana's phone number instead and this time someone answered my call.
"What's up?" She sounds like she's eating and the background was pretty silent.
"Do you know any party that is happening right now?" I ask her through the line.
"Sadly none. Why did you ask? You're bored aren't you?" I can imagine her smiling right now.
"A little. But I'm just looking for Jimin." I tell her. I walked through the pavement as I kept talking to Lana on the phone.
We ended up talking about new campus gossips which made me sit in front of our house's door instead of getting in.
When Lana ended the call, I get inside and silently climbed upstairs in my room and place the box of cereal back on my bedside table.
After I clean myself inside the shower, I dressed in my sleep clothes and was about to lay down and close my eyes when my phone buzzes.
It's a message from Lana.
FYI, Taehyung just told me that Jimin went to Sacramento.
My forehead immediately created curve lines as confusing thoughts entered my brain.
What is he doing there?
