Chapter 25 : Happy Ending

Today's Thursday and I'm wearing a white PRKR turtle neck shirt at school. Jimin snatched me dozens of it from their company's factory before we left Sacramento because he was worried that my parents would wonder about the bruises on my neck, and so does his marks on me.

Yesterday Jimin and I already finished planning about our presentation and I'll call this day a rest day, I think I'll be able to rewatch 'When We First Met' on Netflix later.

It's lunchtime and Lana's pestering me about my outfit. "You're hiding something aren't you?" She gives me suspicious looks.

"I'm not, it's just winter is arriving faster than I expected." I made sure my face is blank so it can support my lie sufficiently.

She grimaced, and I know that she's doubting if she'll believe me or not.

There's no winter in LA, and I already slipped.

As usual, my tray is filled with different varieties of foods for lunch, and Lana is still on her diet menu.

When my eyes searched for an empty table, it stopped looking for it when I saw a hand waving at me. "Elise!" Hoseok yells my name making me earn glares from women at the cafeteria.

Hoseok taps on the long table where the rest of his friends are sitting and there are exactly two vacant seats. He's asking me to sit with them.

It's a rare sight to see Jimin and his friends hanging out in the cafeteria and eating lunch, I barely don't see any of them at times like this.

I look at Lana if she wants to join them, but she's already walking towards the direction of their table and I roll my eyes at her as I trail behind her.

Lana sat next to Taehyung obviously, and I sit beside Jimin since it's the only space available for me to fit in.

"Stress eating?" Jimin jokes the same question that Lana asked me before.

"None of your business." I deadpanned. I take my spoon and fork before I dive into my meal.

"I have a party later, I'm hoping you'll come, Elise." Hoseok starts and I was about to say no and tell that I'm not in a mood to party tonight because what I want is rest but then Lana agreed for me.

"She'll come." She squeals before winking at me and I just smiled at Hoseok. "Anyways it's a surprise that y'all are eating here at lunch," Lana said.

"We were hungry that's all," Taehyung answered for her in a deep tone. Jungkook is sitting on his left and is having a hard time eating his food because of his injured arm.

"Why? You don't eat lunch?" I said before having another spoonful of rice.

"No, it's just that we eat something else." The eldest of the group Seokjin answered and everyone else burst into fits of laughter, except for me. Jimin looks at me with a wicked smile on his face before I elbowed him on his stomach.

"Ouch, you're touching my abs." He fakes a whine and I roll my eyes at him.

"You don't have one."

He leans closer to my ear before whispering the words, "Oh yeah? I'll show you tonight.".

"I'm not going to the party," I said in a whisper, only enough for Jimin to hear it.

"Why? You'll hurt Hoseok's feelings?" He pouts his pink lips which are damn kissable and I should look away before I can think of something else because of it.

"I want to rest."

"I'll give you something better than rest." I can imagine him smirking right now but I don't want to look at him. His face is just too alluring for me.

Instead of saying anything back to this pervert next to me I ignored him and I take the apple on my tray but Jimin snatched it from my hands.

"Hey!" My voice raises but before I can even take my apple back he already took a bite from it. "Buy me a new one," I demanded and he shakes his head no.

Unconsciously, I grab a handful of his hair and he winces in pain as I pull him closer to me. "I said buy me a new one," I said through gritted teeth.

Suddenly I looked around, and all eyes are on me, Lana, Jimin's friends, and the rest of the people in the cafeteria.

"She touched the hair." A girl whispered to someone next to her and they were all giving me a death glare.

I eventually let go of Jimin's hair and he uses his other hand to fix it. "Buy me a new one," I repeated without looking at anyone and continued dealing with my food.

I heard Jimin huff before leaving his seat, and hopefully, he'll do what I asked him.

"That was a first," Namjoon said which made me look at him.

"First?" I ask.

"That someone aside from him touched his hair." Yoongi continues and my forehead furrows, that's unbelievable.

"And he didn't even fume in anger," Hoseok adds with a laugh.

He makes out with girls and it's impossible that they don't even touch his hair.

"Why is that?" I ask, waiting for someone to feed me with my curiosity.

"He's just sensitive and he finally met someone insensitive," Jungkook comments, and it didn't suffice the wonders I have in my head.

Later on, an apple was placed on my tray, and Jimin is already sitting next to me. "That's what you get for messing up Elise's food," Lana said to Jimin and I glared at her for making me sound like a food obsessive enthusiast.

After lunch, I had another class and now I'm walking alone in the corridors as I go to Mrs. Feinberg's class.

It is almost time before our professor walks inside the room and most of my classmates are already inside, including Jimin who's busy on his phone.

As usual, whenever he came first before me, he'll save a seat for me and when I don't do the same thing when I came first before him, he demands the person next to me to change seats and I don't know why he does that.

I automatically sit beside him and grab my pen and open my book to try recapping about our lesson in this class last time.

But I can't focus because of the sounds coming from Jimin's phone. "Can you put it down?" I hiss.

He's playing some sort of killing game and I'm hearing gunshots from it.

He seemed immersed in it and doesn't even pay any attention to me.

I snatched his phone away from him and turned it off. "I'm only an inch away to the boss level and you ruined it." He hissed.

"Better luck next time." I give him back his phone and return to my book but then our professor already entered the room.

Mrs. Feinberg continued on discussing the lesson we started yesterday.

The class went faster and when our professor finally announced that our class has ended, she called me and Jimin.

"Are you prepared for tomorrow's presentation?" She arcs her eyebrow as if she's already expecting that our answer is gonna be no.

"Yes, ma'am." I proudly beam and I can see at the corner of my eyes that Jimin is rolling his eyes at me.

"Very well then, I'll be expecting something great from you." She lowers her eyeglasses looking at both of us before heading outside of the room.

"Have you edited the video already?" I ask Jimin.

"Yes, ma'am." He mocks me and I pinched his arms afterward making me laugh at his reaction and he eventually joins in, but his laughter is forced.

=====

After all my classes were finished, Jimin is already waiting for me outside the room of my last class for today.

"What do you want?" I ask as soon as he saw me.

"Give me a ride to Hoseok's?" He smiles, his eyes fluttering in a beautiful manner like he's convincing me to agree using his face.

"No. I told you I'm not going." I firmly stated. "And where's your luxurious car huh?" I raised an eyebrow at him as I head to the lockers and he's still following me.

"My car broke." It's evident in his voice that he's lying.

"Go ride with Hoseok or Yoongi," I said and shooed him away which made him scowl at me.

"Elise! Let's go!" Lana suddenly appears on my side and yanks her right arm on my left.

"I'm not going," I said in a straight face.

"Ha-ha. Funny, now let's go." She teases and pulls me outside the parking lot with Jimin following us with an evil smirk on his face.

When we reached my car, they both waited for me to open it. "If both of you just need a ride, then I'll give you one. But I'm not going." I hopped inside the car and Jimin sat in front while Lana is on the back.

"Why aren't you coming?" She asks in a disappointed tone.

"I have plans." I curtly said.

"Boring plans you mean?" Jimin snorts.

"Don't make me kick you out of my car." I give him an empty threat through my teeth and he plays along with it by raising both of his hands in the air and zipping an invisible zipper on his mouth.

Lana told me that the party is going to be held at Hoseok's house again, which made me reminisce the first time I went there, it was drastic and it's all because of this guy sitting next to me.

Once we reached the pavement near Hoseok's house, the area is already filled with students, the gate is wide open for people to come and I find it amusing that Hoseok's neighbors aren't even complaining about the noise.

Lana already hopped out leaving me and Jimin alone in the car. "Are you really not going?" He asks and I shake my head. "Just at least show up for a bit until Hoseok sees you. He'll be really hurt if he knew that you didn't come." He said to get into my conscience and it really worked.

I sighed before giving up.

"Fine," I said. "I'm just going in to let Hoseok see me, after that you're on your own." There's an angelic smile on his face before the both of us went out of the car.

People outside are already making a mess, and as a youth environmentalist, it is a big shame for me to even be here. I doubt if Lana feels the same about it.

We were walking inside the house when we bumped into Jungkook. "Where's Hoseok?" Jimin asks him as he handed him a cup of beer and he declined. Jungkook then gives me the cup and I sheepishly accepted it which made Jimin glare at me.

"What?" I whisper-yelled at him but he didn't answer.

"He's at the backyard, I heard they're having a game of drunk golf." He chuckles for a bit at the thought, Jungkook's arm is still inside an arm sling and his one hand is holding a cup.

Jungkook's aura tonight is not the same as the first time he stepped inside our house that day Serene and he went out for a date.

His eyes are... sad? He looks vulnerable.

"Let's go," Jimin said to me.

"Can I talk to Jungkook privately?" Both men widened their eyes in curiosity but then Jimin briefly agrees and nods at both of us before heading to Hoseok.

I gestured at Jungkook to follow me and I led both of us into some quiet space at the house.

"What do you want to talk about?"

I take a sip from my beer before asking. "How are things between you and my sister?" It feels weird talking to a guy about my sister.

His guard suddenly went up because of my question. The looks in his eyes changed, he's covering up his real emotions.

"Why don't you ask her that question?" He said in a dead tone. He's back at being rude.

"She won't tell me anything." I looked down.

"That's not my problem anymore." He attempts to leave me alone but I get ahold of his uninjured arm. He shoves my arm away making me drop my cup on the floor.

"What do you want?!" He yells at me.

"I just want to know if something bad happened to the both of you." I sincerely said.

"You want to know?" He scoffs. "We're done. We're fucking done. Tell her to stop making up for her mistakes, because nothing will change my mind." With that, Jungkook left me hanging.

What did Serene do to him? I can't believe that my sister is the one who is at fault.

I look at my wet shoes and quietly curse. How I hate wet socks and shoes on my feet.

=====

Later on, I stayed at the backyard where a mini-golf game is being played by drunk people, Hoseok included.

Jimin was right, Hoseok's alcohol tolerance must be very low. I can see very well that Hoseok is intoxicated and his whole face turned into a dark shade of red.

When Hoseok eyes landed on mine he smiled at me and I returned one before he went back on playing.

Now that my job is done and Hoseok already sees me, I must go home.

"Elise!" Just when I was about to run off, Jimin calls me.

"What?"

"Let's go?"

"Where?" I curl my nose.

"Home."

My mouth was unable to speak and I just nodded. Since we're neighbors, there's no such excuse for me to not give him a ride back to his home.

The car ride is silent and only the songs of 1975 on my phone that are connected to the speakers are feeding our ears.

"I feel like I want to rip my ears off," Jimin comments, automatically earning a dirty look from me.

"Then do it," I remarked and I hear him laugh at it.

"Oh god, they suck." He complains further and covers both of his ears.

I suddenly pressed the brakes and he hit the dashboard, accidentally.

"What the hell Elise?!" He says and I look at the traffic light that says red, he scoffs when he follows the direction of my eyes.

"It's your fault you're not wearing your seatbelt," I smirk. "And for bashing out my favorite band." I stuck out my tongue at him and the lights finally turned green.

When we finally arrived at my house, he said he's just going to walk to his and he bid me goodbye.

I entered the house and my family already had dinner. Mom was rambling about how I often miss dinner these past few days.

Having no appetite at all, I just went upstairs and lock myself inside my room.

I took a quick shower before changing into my sleeping clothes.

Once I get on my bed, I grab my laptop under my bed and open my Netflix account.

I search the movie that I want to rewatch, but before I can even click the play button, someone knocked on my balcony door.

Strangely, someone is knocking on my balcony when no one is supposedly out there without even passing inside my room.

I slightly open the door and I was surprised when Jimin is standing there.

"What are you doing here?!" I hissed. I looked back and forth to him and my bedroom door, just in case someone comes in.

"I can't sleep." He says and then pouts.

He and his baby tactics. Ugh.

"Well, news flash Jimin. I'm no bed." I said and slams the door shut in front of his face but then I heard him yelp in pain.

When I look down, I saw his hand between the door and the doorway. I immediately opened the door and saw him wincing in pain.

"Oh my god! I'm sorry!" I said and pulled him inside my room. "Stay seated. I'll just get an ice pack downstairs." I instruct him.

"And don't make any noise," I add and warn.

I went downstairs to the kitchen and grab the ice pack inside a cabinet and filled it with ice. Fortunately, my parents are in the living room and they won't be questioning me about it.

When I return to my room, Jimin is meddling with my laptop. "Yah!" I raise my voice enough to get his attention.

I stomped my way towards him before grabbing his already swollen hand. I place the ice pack on it and he groans.

"What are you even thinking?" I scold at him. "Now go home. You can return that ice pack tomorrow."

"Let me watch."

"Huh?"

"Let me watch that movie on your laptop, I'll leave after it finishes." He bats his eyelashes and I sigh as I agreed.

"As soon as the credit rolls, you're stepping out of this room," I demanded and he obliges.

We started the movie on a good note but Jimin suddenly badmouths Adam DeVine for being stupid in the movie.

"How can he not realize that they're not destined." He rolls his eyes. "There's no point in changing the past."

"Shut up," I growled.

My bed suddenly vibrates and it's my phone.

Ryan.

He's calling.

"Ignore it. He'll just pester you." The playful look on Jimin is replaced by a serious face. I furrowed my eyebrows at him and didn't follow what he said.

I stand up and went to the balcony to answer the call.

Ryan and I chitchatted for twenty minutes, we laughed and shared stories that happened to us these past few days. Of course, everything that happened between Jimin and I was an exception.

"Goodnight Elise. I miss you and I love you." He says through the line."

"I miss you too. Come visit me soonest hm?" He says yes and ends the call.

I go back inside my room only to see Jimin who's really focused on the screen.

I look at my laptop and the credits are already rolling. "That was a long talk with your ex." He starts.

"What?" I ask in confusion.

"He's probably crying his ass because you broke up with him. It's good of you to at least babysit him on the call." He laughs and I look at him puzzlingly.

"What? We didn't break up." I said with eyebrows knitted together.

"Okay stop joking Elise. Now come back here and I'll replay the scenes you've missed." He taps on the bed.

"I'm not joking Jimin," I said blankly.

"What? I thought you..." He's at loss of words. "After that night in Sacramento. What was that?! I was assuming that you already broke up with him!" He raises his voice.

"You know that's not going to happen ever again. I enjoyed it, but it was a mistake Jimin." I looked down and anger slowly fills in him, I can see it in his eyes.

"I've already given you three days to think about it. To think about me! Yet you're still with that suge knight!"

"He's not! Stop talking shit about my boyfriend!"

At this point, I'm afraid my parents will hear us down there.

He stands up from my bed and throws the ice pack on the floor and I wheeze in surprise.

He moves forward to my direction and steps closer to me. "You know what, screw you, Elise! I'm done playing nice with you." He says the same words I told him when I caught him with that girl. He walks out and goes straight to the balcony.

I turn around to look at him once more but he suddenly stops walking.

"Stop watching that film. Noah didn't have a happy ending and neither will you with Ryan." He says before closing the door himself and I didn't even bother to watch how he gets down our house.

I want to tell him that I already watched the movie and Noah did have a happy ending.

Not with Avery, but with Carrie instead.
