Chapter 11 : What's Your Wish?
I arrived at home at two in the morning in Jimin's sweater. If you think I used the front door to enter the house, I climbed up to the balcony of my room with the help of Jimin.
My dad is going to kill me if he saw me wearing something that isn't mine, especially when it's owned by a guy.
You'll be with me even if the world doesn't want to, even if you have someone else in your life.
Jimin's words keep on replaying inside my head like a broken radio. I don't get what he meant by that, but I sensed that it is not going to be good.
I don't know if what he meant is that he likes me and that he's going to steal me from Ryan, it makes me sound pathetic but that's the first thought that entered my mind the moment I heard those words from him. I don't want to get to my stupid assumptions because it'll just eat me out alive. Whatever he meant by that is something wrong and I will not tolerate it.
Laying on my bed, all night I was just tossing around my bed and my mind goes back and forth between Ryan and Jimin. How will I confess to Ryan that Jimin kissed me, not just once but twice? He'll definitely get confused and shocked. Should I just hide the truth?
I'm good at lying, he'll probably never know. Unless Jimin spits it out to everyone and it'll spread throughout the campus until the news reaches Ryan. Should I talk to Jimin and make him shut his mouth?
I sort of want to, he saved me twice, from the resort wherein he's the one who drowned me, at least he had the decency to save me, and yesterday from the sex-crazed maniac, he also helped me to get home.
He seems to be really kind and really evil at the same time, which is not a good combination.
I still haven't change into my clothes, I like the scent of his sweater, it completely smells like him.
I have never worn Ryan's clothes. He's kind of sensitive when it comes to his stuff.
I stand up and check on the window to see if Jimin is inside his room. Disappointment brushes all over my face when I saw that his house is too dark. It's like no one is living there.
He must be somewhere else.
My face heats when I remembered the kiss we shared earlier. But I immediately give myself a weak slap on the face to wake me up.
=====
My alarm keeps ringing and the sunlight hits my face directly, forcing me to wake up early.
I'm a member of Eco-Op, a club at USC that promotes and shares positive ideas to make a better environment for all of us. I love animals and that made me join this club, although it's not related to the animals itself. We're talking about their habitats as well.
We have to plant trees around the campus today and it's Saturday. I should be sleeping as long as I want, but for the trees, I'm getting up.
I turned around the bed to turn my alarm off and like an automatic and broke machine, my head started cracking like a nut.
This must be the effect of alcohol. I jump out of bed to find something inside my drawers and there's nothing, all I have here are medicines for tummy aches and sore throat.
I went straight to the bathroom instead to take a shower and to get myself ready for a load of work.
A meeting will be held before the Tree-Planting Event happens at our club room. While walking down the corridors my head is still hurting and I should've gone to a pharmacy before going straight to the campus and buy myself an Advil.
While on my way to the room, a young lady who seems to be my age stops me. "Excuse me? Can I ask for directions?"
"Sure." I force a smile and hide the pain that I'm feeling because of my head.
"Do you know where's Eco-Op's club room?"
"Are you here for the Tree-Planting Event?" I ask her and she nods with a cheeky smile. "Come with me, I'm heading there too." Instead of giving her directions, I try to make a move that will make me benefit, maybe I can be friends with her. She looks nice.
We had a few talks about ourselves and I learned that her name is Lana Ritchie and she just transferred schools this semester.
The meeting was really boring, I should've just skipped it and have a little more time to sleep. It was just a small seminar on how to plant trees properly and a few fun facts about trees.
After fifteen minutes we head out to the quadrangle where everybody is going to be given safety precautions and equipment.
The leaders told us that it is better if we are in pairs while doing the activity and I'm lucky that Lana asked me to be her partner.
We are both given a small shovel, goggles, gloves, and two trays of tree seedlings, we are also given a warning about not tying both of our hairs.
Each pair are assigned to different areas. Lana and I are assigned first at the back of the gymnasium. "My head hurts." I can't help but groan, it really does. I'm never drinking again, but I'm not promising.
"Do you want me to start off first?" Lana offered and I shake my head no.
"I just can't with this heavy head of mine," I complained and reach the gloves to place them on my hands and start digging using the shovels.
"Did you drink last night?" She asks and I look up to her. "Sorry, I didn't mean to pry." She quickly apologizes and I laugh.
"Yeah I did drink last night, I went to a party," I told her and she started rummaging inside her bag, probably looking for something.
"Here." She hands me a bottle and an Advil.
"Thank you, oh my god. You're an angel!" I squeal and gladly took the medicine from her hands.
"I also went to a party last night and I packed some medicine in case my head hurts." I quickly withdraw from using medicine when she said that.
"Oh, you should keep it, just in case."
"No, it's okay I still have another one." She assures me and I quickly ate the medicine. "So was the party fun?" She asks.
"Sort of," I said after gulping a mouthful of water, memories from last night started flashing inside my head. "How about yours?"
"Same as your answer. But I found the place really big. It was a mansion, that Hoseok guy is filthy rich." I almost choke at the mention of Jimin's friend.
"You were there? Who invited you?" I surprisingly enquire.
"Yeah, I was there. You don't usually get invites at college parties, if you heard that a party is going to happen later, it's up to you if you'll go or not." She informs me, I look like an innocent college student who attended her first party last night and turned out to be a mess, which is definitely me.
"Oh, I don't know about that, Hoseok and his friend invited me that morning," I tell her, I don't like saying Jimin's name, it's too odd that I'm even having a conversation with someone that involves him.
"Really? Hoseok Jung?" She shockingly screeches and almost drops the tray of seedlings on the ground.
"Yeah, why? What's with him?" I curiously questioned her as I continue digging a nice hole. I gestured for her to take a seedling and she did give me one.
"Gosh Elise, are you living under a rock? Tell me who's that friend that was with him when he invited you." She gushes and it's creeping me out.
"Is it Taehyung? Namjoon? Jungkook? Yoongi? Seokjin?" I shake my head no at every mention of a different name. Why does she know every single one of them?
"Is it Jimin?" There it goes, the name that I've been dreading to hear, I nod and she freaks out even more.
"Why do you know them?" We asked each other the same question and we can't help but giggle. "Well, Jimin is my classmate in Economics and I tend to get pretty rough with him," I explain and she suddenly coos.
"Oh, that isn't what I mean!" I shake both of my hands in front of her while she laughs. "I mean we're like enemies. Hoseok thought that we were friends and that's why he invited me to come to his party." I elaborated and all she did was nod.
"What about you? How did you know them?" I carefully put the seedling on the hole that I just dug while I ask her.
"They're pretty famous around the campus. Girls are turning into whores just to get their attention. I wouldn't blame them though, I'd turn into one if I'm given the chance." She jokes and both of us started to make a fit of laughter behind the gymnasium. Lucky for us that we're the only ones here.
"So which of them do you like?" I intrigued.
"Rumors said that Taehyung is nice and the first time I saw him in person all I can think of is that he's hot, so I think maybe him." She gushes and I smile at her playful behavior over boys.
"Taehyung is actually nice, I met him last night." I'll stop there, I don't want her to know that Taehyung actually introduced me to his group of friends that we were just talking about.
"Really? I'm searching for him the whole night but I got wasted early." She admits and chuckles at herself. "How about you? Which one of them do you like?" She returns the question and I smiled at her.
"I have a boyfriend." I made it sound like it was a bad thing to have a boyfriend in this kind of conversation to keep up with the mood, but it was just a joke.
I love having Ryan around me.
"That's bad." She goes along with it and the rest of our activity went well, and I thanked the heavens for sending someone that I can talk to while being a gardener for a day even though I dreamt about being an environmentalist.
=====
I got home a little late because Lana and I agreed to have some snacks outside.
I learned more about her, she told me she loves writing stories that's why she chose Literature. We got along quite well because I told her I love reading stories and most of our interests match each other.
I guess we became friends already.
I open the front door to enter the house and my eyes widened at the scene that I'm witnessing.
"Mom! Elise is here!" She announced while tossing the dice onto the monopoly board. They're sitting on the floor playing monopoly, Sean, Serene, and Jimin.
What is he doing here?
His eyes met mine and I give him the look that asks him the question that popped inside my head the very moment I saw him sitting on the floor with my siblings and casually playing a children's board game with them.
My mom eventually walks out of the kitchen, "Dinner's ready!" my mom says as she smiles at everyone.
They all stand up and head to the dining room and leaving me puzzled.
I dropped my bag inside my room and hurriedly went to get dinner as well.
As expected I'll be sitting next to him, again. I take an awkward look at him before sitting down and he doesn't even flinch while looking at me as well. "It's really nice of you to bring us some food." My mom praises Jimin.
"You're welcome, my mom has been sending me plenty of foods when I'm only living alone." He tells them politely. He's good at acting.
"Well, you should bring more and eat with us instead." My mom jokes and Jimin forces an awkward laugh.
I focus on chewing my food rather than engaging myself with their conversations. "... that's why I doubted if Serene is really mine." Says mom while talking about why Serene's the only one with blue eyes in our family.
I know Serene's getting pissed off because of mom and she's really keeping it well. I know how much she hates when mom is telling stories about her to other people.
"Hey, Elise, I was wondering if the Tree-Planting Event went well?" Jimin asks me and I almost forgot to chew my food before swallowing it. How did he know about that? Well for a fact he's also a student at the same university that I go to, and the article about the Tree-Planting Event must've reached him. I just don't know how he knew that I'm a member of that club.
"It went well." I briefly replied.
"Tell us more about it sweetie." My mom presses and I fight the urge to roll my eyes at her.
"Well I earned a new friend today because of that event, her name is Lana and she just transferred schools this semester." I sighed after having a forced storytelling about my day.
"That's good to hear, may I ask what did you apply for college Jimin?" My dad enters, at least I'm not the center of everything now.
"I major in Business Management." He answered. That's why we have the same class, his course is somewhat close to mine. But I heard he switched some of his subjects.
"Are you planning to be a businessman?" Of course, he is mom, that's why he chose that study. I answered for Jimin.
"Yeah." His face suddenly drops. "I don't actually want to be but I need to be."
We finished dinner in a nice mood and I'm very grateful for that. Jimin didn't attempt to do something like what he did to me the last time he ate dinner with us.
Dad went upstairs to their room and mom is in the kitchen doing the dishes. I thought Jimin is going to leave after dinner but he insisted on staying for a single round of UNO when Sean asked us to play with him.
"How about the first place gets to have a wish from the loser?" Jimin suggested while looking at me. I shrug my shoulders off but Serene answered for me.
"That's a great idea." She smiled like a little girl who's excited to win a card game to have her wish.
I would like to disapprove of the idea but I don't want to argue anymore, I never win when it comes to Serene, let alone Jimin. I'm just going to make sure that I won't lose.
I ended up losing the stupid game to Sean with only two cards left in my hand. I can't believe a child defeated me.
"Okay Serene, what's your wish?" I said in a dead tone.
"It's Jimin who won first place." My sister informed me and when I look at the said guy, there's already an evil smirk painted on his lips.
"What is it?" I ask him with the same level of energy when I asked Serene.
"I'll tell you soon." A few minutes later Jimin told my mom he's going to leave and my mom thanked him for visiting us, and the usual she's inviting him again for dinner tomorrow. Fortunately, Jimin said he wasn't sure about tomorrow night because he got plans.
I sigh at the relief of not seeing him tomorrow.
As I lay on my bed, I started thinking about the possibilities of what Jimin might think of as his wish from me and it's making me anxious.
