chapter four.

four. why are you doing this?

MORNING SOON CAME and Billy never came. My worried thoughts kept me up all night. I called his house several times to see if he was there and he wasn't. Max was the one who picked up the phone and inform that he had not returned home at all since yesterday morning. Where could he have gone?

I packed all my things and made my way to my car. Deciding to make my way to Billy's job. Hoping if anyone know where he went after work.

It took me more then ten minutes to get there. I speed down the streets, anxiety building up in my chest. Just praying that Billy is there and if he is, he better have a good explanation to where the hell he was last night.

I parked my car and made my way into the community pool. My eyes scanned the entire area. Going pass the kids, the mothers, and seeing Heather sitting in the lifeguard chair. I made my way towards her.

"Hi," I greet. "Where's Billy? Did he come in today?" I questioned as I played with my fingers behind my back.

"Yeah. He's somewhere in the electricity room." She responds, not removing her eyes from the magazine she was reading. Awesome work at doing your job. I said to myself while rolling my eyes. I left her side and made my way towards the electricity room.

I was feeling mixed emotions. Relief that Billy was fine and alive, but angry that he never came last night. Angry that he made me wait all night for him to never come when it was his idea. I also felt a little worry. Worried about what was the reason why he never came. What was he doing that he never came? He's never done anything like this.

"Billy." I call, looking around the electricity room. I stopped when I saw him standing in front of a wooden rack with different types of things on it. He placed a can down on it. I huffed and felt my heart ready to burst, "Billy, what the fuck? Where were you last night? I waited all night for you to come and you never came. What was the point of setting all that up just for you not to show up?" I ranted, angrily, but he payed no attention. He didn't even turn to face me. I walked closer to him, tapping his shoulder. "Hellooo?" I call.

Nothing. His body just shifted softly with my rough tapping, but he didn't turn to face. I released an angry sigh. I placed my hands on his shoulders and turned him around to face me. What I saw, was not the Billy I know and love. His eyes were dim, looked as if there was no light or life in them. He was dripping from sweat and he had a straight poker face.

"Leave me alone, Phoebe." He tells me. He pushed past me, but I didn't let him go far. I grabbed his hand to stop him from walking.

I wanted to ask if he was okay, but what I really wanted to know was why he didn't show up last night and what is going on with him. "No, I'm not going to leave you alone. I want to know why you didn't come last night." I argued, still holding his wrist.

"I was out with some other girl." He replies.

My heart dropped. I could literally feel my heart fall and shatter into pieces. Tears watered up in my eyes and my hand let go of his wrist.

"What?" I whimper, my voice cracking. I shake my head and look towards the ground. Tears already building up. "No, I don't believe you." I regret to believe that he cheated on me. Something must've happened to him because he looks and is acting very strange.

"I want to break up with you." He continues, breaking my heart even more.

"What? Why? What has happened to you? Why are you doing this?" I question. Being in denial and hoping that what he said before wasn't true. It can't be. I don't want to believe it. He would never do such a thing.

When I lift my head up, I stared into Billy's eyes. They looked lifeless. Those bright blue eyes are now dull. Besides Billy replying to my questions, he walks right past me and leaves the electricity room. As if he was a robot being controlled.

Something has to be wrong with him. It looks as if he was taken over by something. These words can't be true, but they still hurt.

I wiped my tears away and decided to go to Billy's house. Hoping that Max will be there.

With my speeding and anticipation, I got there in a few minutes. I parked my car terribly and walked up the steps to Billy's house. Knocking the door. Hoping that Max is home.

I soon got my answer when no one came to open the door. I released a sigh and slammed my fist angrily one the door.

I got back into my car and made my way back home. Maybe I can talk to El.
