Ladrien/Adrienette Father's Day Special part 5

Marinette leaves Adrien's room to go check on Emma. She sees her daughter is asleep. She thinks it is good to see she looks so peaceful.  She leaves the room after she gives her a quick kiss on her forehead, then goes to get a cup of coffee.

She tells the lady at the front desk, "I have some things to do at home, but I will be back tomorrow to check on Emma and Adrien."

"Okay, Mrs. Cuffaine, they are both in good hands," The lady whose tag reads Carla remarks.

Marinette drives to the county courthouse, and once inside she smiles.

"I would like to see about legally changing my name," She tells the staff members in charge in the room downstairs marked marriages, births, deaths, and more.

"Sure thing, fill out this form, and pay the charge of five dollars," The man states.

Marinette looks closely at the paperwork, smiles as she fills in the areas that pertain to herself, hands it over along with the money.

"Okay, good job, Miss Marinette Dupain-Cheng,"  He says.

"It is Miss, right?" He asks.

"Yes, that is correct as I chose to go back to my maiden name,"  She replies.

"The other last name Cuffaine brings up to many bad memories for me," She explains.

"Yes, I see, well let me know if I could help with anything else,"  He tells her.

"This will be all for now, thanks," Marinette says as she waits for the paperwork to be printed out.  She grins as she exits the courthouse, and goes back to her car.

Marinette drives back to her place with one thing in mind now.  She is no longer a Cuffaine and hopefully, at some point, Emma will gain a new last name as well. She has no idea that her daughter wishes Marinette and Adrien would get married. She arrives home safely, parks her car, lock it, and unlocks the door to her home.

Once inside she takes a look around, she is glad she and Emma leave in a smaller place than the one Luka left her in the day he chose to forget about all his responsibilities. Marinette closes the door, locks it, and lays down. She soon drifts off from exhaustion on her sofa.

After a quick nap, Marinette wakes up and fixes herself a frozen pizza and small salad. She has to keep up her nourishment. It would never do for her to fall behind on her health while Emma has her treatments and Adrien recovers from his heart attack. She sighs as she thinks about her two favorite people being in the hospital at the same time.

         Alya's text to Marinette

Girl, let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I heard about Emma and I am so sorry, Marinette.

        Alya's text to Marinette

Do not be angry with him, but Adrien texted me.

He says he felt like you could use both your best friends at a time like this.

      Marinette's text to Alya

Adrien had a heart attack, but the doctor can not seem to figure out what caused it.

He appears to have a clean bill of health before this situation.

  Alya's  text to Marinette

Oh my goodness, I hope he will be okay.

I know how close you and him are which is why I am going to say right now what I should have years ago.  You married the wrong man, girl.

Adrien always adored you, and yet you let him slip through your fingers.

  Marinette's text to Alya

I agree Luka was a mistake, but that still does not mean you should ship me with Adrien.

Emma does seem to get along great with him, but you know Adrien and I are not like that Alya.

Alya facepalms herself in frustration at the response Marinette gives her. She thinks that girl is so oblivious.  She does not get how Marinette can be so blind to the truth that Adrien loves her.

"Tikki, where are you?" Marinette asks.

"Marinette, it is been ages since we last talked,"  Tikki says.

"I know and I am sorry about that Tikki," Marinette remarks.

"I accept your apology, Marinette.  I do believe Adrien is best for Emma and you," Tikki tells her.

"Not you too, Tikki,"  Marinette says with a groan.

Tikki looks at Marinette for an explanation.

"It is just Doctor Brown, my ex-husband Luka, the nurse Jenny, and Alya already ship me with Adrien.  Now, I can add you to the list as well," Marinette states.

   "List what list?" Tikki asks.

"The list of people who ship Adrien and me together, which is silly as Adrien and I are not a couple,"  Marinette says.

"Yes, well perhaps, someday you will be," Tikki replies with a  girn.

"Tikki spots on!" Marinette says. She transforms and goes on patrol as she has done for the longest time she can remember other than toward the end of her pregnancy, the day she gave birth to Emma, and for at least, a year after Emma was born.

Ladybug smiles when she sees everything is good. She feels as if someone beckons her.  Strange she never felt this way before not even with Luka.  She swings in the direction of the hospital.

She lands outside the window to the room Emma stays in and climbs inside when she sees it is open. She grins over at her child who looks at her with eyes wide open.

"Ladybug, you came to see me," Emma says with a grin.

"Sure did, I mean you are one of my fans, and I could not very well call myself a hero if I did not check up on you," Ladybug states.

"Did my mommy send you?" Emma asks.

"Your mother is a friend of mine," Ladybug replies.

"Cool, that is amazing,"  Emma responds.

Ladybug hugs Emma but is careful since there is a lot of cords around her. She can see the chemo tube hooked up to the toddler's arm and feels sorry for her. Then, she sighs as Emma asks, "Well, you be going to see Mr. Adrien next?"

"Sure thing, Emma," Ladybug answers. She has no intention to do so, but Emma smiles.

Ladybug sees the nurse enter the room, so she goes out into the hallway. She overhears Emma speak to Nurse Jenny about her surprise visitor. She tiptoes past the door to Adrien's room when she hears him speak.

"Is that you, Mari?" Adrien asks.

Ladybug turns back around and enters the room.  "Sorry, but she could not come.  Hope you do not mind, she sent me instead," Ladybug says.

Adrien smiles, but wonders why she tries to act like he has no idea who she is behind the mask.  He knows very well that she is Marinette. He has known since well since the day she called him with the bad news about Luka.  He recalls he showed up and Marinette was nowhere to be seen,  but Ladybug was in tears.

It was then he figured out the truth that the woman he loved was always his Bugaboo. He was in shock but did not say a word about it to anyone.

"I know it is you," Adrien says sadly.

Ladybug closes the door, and asks, "How did you find out?"

Adrien whispers, "I discovered it when a distraught Marinette called me to say her sorry excuse of a husband left her.  I did what I could to comfort her, but she was in a spotted costume.  I thought it strange at the time, but later knew it could only mean one thing, that Marinette Dupain-Cheng is Ladybug."

Ladybug sighs, "Fine you caught me." She was about to say spots off when Adrien grabbed her hand for the second time that day.

"Mari, I believe it is you who caught my heart," Adrien says. He knows the timing is terrible, but he can no longer hide it.  He places his other hand on her back and as he sits up, he kisses her.

Adrien feels her pull away. He knows she did not kiss back.  He can tell by her silence that she has a lot on her mind.  He wishes she could see how serious he is about her.

"T-Tikki, spots off," Ladybug mutters. She looks at Adrien in surprise. She never thought that his kiss would make her feel something she has not in years. She can not understand it either.  She knows he is just a best friend, so why then did his kiss cause sparks to go throughout her body?

"I have to go, but I assure you I will come again tomorrow," Marinette says.

"Yeah, tomorrow," Adrien says his voice void of emotion. He feels as he has been burnt by the sting of rejection once more from the only woman he has ever loved.

Meanwhile, Emma thinks strange Ladybug looks a lot like my mommy. She can not understand why, but she feels as if  Ladybug is someone close to her.  She smiles at the thought.
