Ladrien/Adrienette Father's Day Special part 12 (last part)
*Author's Note: This part is a tearjerker, so I hope you have your Kleenex or handkerchief ready. Sorry, ahead of time that is so sad, but that is how things are sometimes in both the fanfiction world and the real world.
Months later...
Marinette sobs on her way to the graveyard. This is not how she thought it would be at all. It has been a few months since she and Adrien got together. She never got to tell her daughter the good news. She kneels at the tombstone that reads Emma Marie Cuffaine Agreste with fresh flowers in her. She recalls how Adrien got the adoption papers signed just a few weeks before Emma's passing.
"Emma, I am here," Marinette says as she tries to wipe away her sad tears.
"Marinette, I can not say how sorry I am," Adrien tells her.
"I know, but at least you were there for us both in her last days," Marinette says.
Adrien reaches over and pulls his fiance close. This is not quite how he thought things would turn out. He was hoping Emma would get better and join them for their wedding day. He knew she would have made a great flower girl.
Flashback scene...
Adrien smiles over at Marinette as he pulls out a ring. He feels nervous as if for a moment he thinks she will say no. It is not as if the knows how she will react. It was just a few weeks ago the papers for Emma's adoption came back through. He is so glad to be Emma's father at last and now he hopes for more.
"Adrien, is that an engagement ring?" Marinette asks with her eyes full of hope.
"Will you marry me, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, my bluebell beauty and love of my life?" Adrien asks while he is still down on one knee.
"Yes, I will!'' Marinette says happily.
Adrien slips the ring on Marinette's finger, then kisses her. He hears his cell phone beep then frowns. He sees a text message from the hospital. He thinks on please not today. Not now.
"Adrien, what is wrong?" Marinette asks.
"Marinette, we have to go to Emma," Adrien says.
Marinette nods her head in agreement as they get in his car. She wonders why he has a look of horror in his eyes as he drives them to the hospital. It is not until they reach Emma's room that she finds out.
"Emma, I am here," Marinette says.
"Mommy, did you bring Mr. Adrien with you?" Emma asks weakly.
"Yes, I sure did, sweetie," Marinette answers.
"Good then, you take this for me," Emma says and offers the teddy bear to her mother.
Marinette does not understand why her daughter should offer the gift to her. She looks to Adrien, then at the doctor for answers.
"She is dying," The doctor says sadly.
"What? No, this is a nightmare," Marinette protest.
"I am sorry, darling, but Emma's treatments did not work. Our daughter is almost gone," Adrien says through his tears.
"Daddy, I am sorry," Emma says sadly.
"Sorry, there is nothing to be sorry about Emma," Adrien says.
"Yes, there is you adopt me, but I will not be here for Father's Day," She replies.
"Emma, you got your wish though a father for Father's Day," Adrien responds. He hugs her one last time, then kisses her cheek.
Marinette hugs Emma, as she says, "Emma, please do not go. Please stay, please."
"Do not worry, Mommy, you do not have to be alone anymore. You have Daddy with you and I know he is the best thing that ever happened to us both," Emma tells her.
Emma closes her eyes without another word. It is then the doctor, along with Nurse Jenny, Adrien and Marinette know she is gone. Emma is dead.
Marinette turns to Adrien and he pulls her close.
Adrien kisses her and takes her home. He helps her plan the funeral arrangements for Emma. This way maybe it will be less hard on her.
A week after the funeral, Adrien brings Marinette more flowers. He feels sad that he has to give his bride to be, flowers before the wedding day because her no their daughter passed away from cancer.
End of flashback...
Marinette is glad that Adrien chose to stay in her life. She is so glad she accepted his love before she lost Emma for good. This way she at least has someone to love her and keep her from being alone. She sighs as Adrien kisses her. She kisses him, then says, "Come on let's get out of here."
Adrien nods his head as he drives Marinette to the ice-cream stand. He knows it will not bring Emma back, but he has heard it does cheer up the sad. Once there, he parks, gets out and walks with his Marinette to get a nice treat. He orders two chocolate chip ice-creams in cones.
Marinette eats the treat and thinks wow this is kinda nice. She sure enjoys the time with Adrien. She lays her head on his shoulder as she finishes the snack.
Adrien laughs as Marinette eats as he thinks she is so beautiful. He wipes some loose part of the food off her cheek with his thumb. Then, he leans in and kisses her. He pulls away to let her finish and eats the rest of his as well.
Now, as she rests with her head against his shoulder he thinks so this is what it is like to be with her at last.
Time skip...
It is now, June 21st Father's Day! Marinette and Adrien got married a few days ago. They felt like it was right somehow. The two of them feel a bit sad knowing this is how they expected the day to go. However, they have a guess that maybe things will be better for the two of them from here on out.
Adrien sees a familiar person approach their table at the restaurant and gasps.
"What brings you here?" Adrien asks. He has one arm around his wife.
"Wow, so you two tied the knot huh?" He asks.
"Yes, what of it?" Adrien asks as he glares at Luka.
"I am glad to hear it. Congratulations by the way," Luka states.
"Thanks, Luka," Marinette says.
"Yes, thanks, man," Adrien says.
"So, is Emma happy to be with her grandparents or something?" Luka asks.
Adrien glares at him as if to say how dare you to bring her up right now. He can not believe that today of all days someone has to talk about his adoptive daughter the same one who died months ago.
"Luka, she is not at her grandparents, she did not make it," Marinette says sadly.
"Oh, no! I am so sorry, Adrien and Marinette. I know how much she loved you both," Luka says.
Luka goes on to explain that he occasionally visited Emma at the hospital by himself. He mentions he recalls how Emma told him one day that she wanted Mr. Adrien to marry her mother since he makes her so very happy. He told Emma that he agreed and Adrien would be a great husband for Marinette and father to Emma.
Luka walks off to join someone at another table. He smiles at her, then wraps an arm around her. She smiles back at him.
"Sorry, I was late, babe," Luka says.
"It is alright because I have our Marcus to keep me company," She says.
"Happy Father's Day," Marcus says.
"Thanks, son," Luka says.
"Luka is that your ex and her new husband over there?" His wife asks.
"Yes, but do not worry she is good," Luka says.
"I know, but I can not help feel sorry for them what with the death of their daughter," She says.
"Me too, dear, me too," Luka says.
A young girl with blue eyes, blonde hair, and a cute dress runs past the building where Adrienette sits for a nice meal. She smiles when she sees them. She thinks they are just like the folks in my dream. She turns back around, walks inside, and sits alone.
"Hi, Miss, you here meeting your father?" The waiter asks.
"No, I have no father," She says sadly.
"Awe, that is to bad, your mother then?" He asks.
The girl just shakes her head. The waiter calls the police and finds out the young girl is an orphan and that she insists they bring her here every year for Father's Day until she meets her new family. He hangs up feeling sorry for her. He hands her some food and smiles. He is glad he got the manager to agree to this.
"Okay, now when you finish it is time to go back to the orphanage," the officers say.
"Awe, but the folks I dream about are here," She says.
The young girl finishes her meal, then takes the officer by the hand and stops in front of Adrienette's table.
"Hi, I am Elizabeth Hope," She says.
"Hi, Elizabeth," Adrien says.
"Hi, Elizabeth," Marinette says.
"You may call me Liz if you want to," She replies.
The officer apologizes as he explains the situation to them. Adrienette smiles and takes her by the hand. "Look, we have room in our home for her," Adrien says.
"He is right, we do," Marinette says.
Adrien pays for the meal, then he, Marinette, and the police officer go back to the orphanage together. The officer in his car and Adrienette in Adrien's car with the child. Once inside, they sign the papers.
A few minutes later, the girl smiles as she enters her new home.
"Thanks so much for bringing me home mom and dad," She says.
"Liz, I am glad you like it," Marinette says.
"Same here," Adrien agrees.
"Like it I love it, and I love you both," Elizabeth says as she hugs them.
"Oh, and I made you this," She says as she hands something to Adrien.
Adrien opens the card and smiles as he reads the words, Happy Father's Day, Dad to the best dad ever! I love you! Love, Elizabeth Hope Agreste "Liz"
"It is the best card ever," Adrien replies as he hugs her.
Marinette takes a photo of them together, then one of her with Elizabeth, and a few of the three of them together.
The end...
-Summer out!
